Batman mogs every superhero in every medium and it’s honestly sad at this point. He needs some competition. The greatest comic is a Batman comic (The Dark Knight Returns), the greatest movie of all time (superhero or otherwise) is a Batman movie (The Dark Knight), the greatest animated series is literally named Batman: The Animated Series. The only world in which Batman isn’t the best is video games, and even then his games are really good. What’s left? I guess anime, but it’s only a matter of time before some westaboo makes a Batman anime that is better than every other anime. But for now, we can be content in knowing that Batman right now only mogs American forms of entertainment.
The only character who comes close to Batman is… Joker, Batman’s main villain.
#3 is Spider-Man, but after number one and number two, huuuuuge fricking drop off.
Look at the best comics of all time, The Dark Knight Returns is the best, but there’s another clear contender: Watchmen. Who’s the main character of Watchmen? Rorschach. Who is Rorschach? According to the author, he’s a Batman expy. This is the greatest non-Batman comic ever, and the main character is a Batman expy.
It’s just sad. Every other character needs to step their game up. Batman comics suck right now, and you’d think “oh, this is other characters opportunity to shine” but no, they just sink lower until they suck worse than current Batman. What the frick? It’s like Batman being the best is a law. If Batman comics get good again, will other comics also get good again?
Batman has had shitty movies, shitty shows, shitty comics, whatever, he then bounced back to make great ones that become huge successes. Other characters have one bad movie or bad show or bad comic and they just die.

I think a good chunk of characters are Batman ripoffs but T'Challa is very distinct.
They have very little in common outside of the cat/bat ears. The movies are even more dissimilar, Black Panther and Batman 1989 have literally 0 in common.

                Anonymous

The movies are more dissimilar because Panther is a lot more of a Mary Sue in his whereas, aside from the shitty Snyder movies, Batman for the most part has to play on the grounded side of things as he tries to catch up with the villains he has to stop.
Their morals are also both put into question in at least one of their films but for Panther that was only really for his first one and he ended up being "the only right one" at the end because he's the only character in that shitty movie who could functionally use his brain.

whereas Batman became a flat mary sue who could somehow survive a lot more impossible shit once he became an official member of the League, only solidifying the ruination of his character from someone who was pushed by the plot into having to change and adapt as a person and a hero into someone who just haphazardly threw a wrench into the plot by doing anything and everything the self-insert writers wanted him to do. Dick and Matt haven't been ruined to a similar drastic extent quite yet, but we'll see how long that lasts with modern Marvel & DC and their moronic ethical and financial decisions.

Either way Moon Knight kinda grew out of the whole "he's schizo Batman" thing and became his own guy over time.

Younger protags have been a thing since Huckleberry Finn and Little House on the Prairie. I really don't see how he's supposed to be anything like Robin when Bucky was supposed to be Marvel's answer to Robin.

So then he's not based on any sidekicks. He just happened to start off at a young age. The whole point of being a sidekick is that you're an underling to someone else.

homie it's literally on his own wiki of all things
                https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spider-Man
                >When Spider-Man first appeared in the early 1960s, teenagers in superhero comic books were usually relegated to the role of sidekick to the protagonist. The Spider-Man comic series broke ground by featuring Peter Parker, a high school student from Queens, New York, as Spider-Man's secret identity, whose "self-obsessions with rejection, inadequacy, and loneliness" were issues to which young readers could relate.[8] While Spider-Man was a quintessential sidekick, unlike previous teen heroes Bucky Barnes and Robin, Spider-Man had no superhero mentor like Captain America and Batman; he had learned the lesson for himself that "with great power comes great responsibility"—a line included in a text box in the final panel of the first Spider-Man's origin story, but later retroactively attributed to the late Uncle Ben Parker.

                >While Spider-Man was a quintessential sidekick, unlike previous teen heroes Bucky Barnes and Robin, Spider-Man had no superhero mentor like Captain America and Batman
So by definition, he is not a sidekick. He's just someone who started off as a hero.
If anything his mentor was Uncle Ben, because he's the one who instilled with him the valuable lesson which is what his entire lifestyle and purpose became centered around. But that doesn't make him Ben's "sidekick" per say.

Nah, Spider-Man is cool and still has potential for a lot of relatable stories about fatherhood and spreading the legacy he's left behind
They should just kill off Bruce for good in a massive event and start from the ground up with Dick as Batman in solely grounded and true crime stories like the old days
Never have him join the Justice League and have him instead act as an outside advisor to them.
Have Carrie Kelley be Dick's Robin.

Yes, Scorpion is is relative equal, although not quite as strong. Spider-Man has the necessary strength to punch his jaw off, based on his feats over the years.

This is irrelevant in lieu of what Spider-Man has actually done over the years in terms of feats, virginbro.
I get that it doesn't correlate with the original appearance of Scorpion but neither does a plethora of shit Spidey has done over the years.
Again, it's absolutely feasible Spider-Man could crack or at the very least dislocate Scorpion's jaw.

                Not how it works.
You have two characters of roughly the same durability.
One is an unhinged psychopath who never holds back and is literally stronger than the other one.
They hit each other numerous times throughout the decades.
Somehow only one could turn the other into gore.
It doesn't just work one way and everything else is bad writing for the sake of terrible wank and an "epic" moment appealing to the lowest common denominator of Spider-Man "fans". Same "people" who clapped when Slott pulled out every memberberry for his shitty Spiderverse arc (not gonna be surprised in the least if you're gonna defend this)

This is irrelevant in lieu of what Spider-Man has actually done over the years in terms of feats, virginbro.
I get that it doesn't correlate with the original appearance of Scorpion but neither does a plethora of shit Spidey has done over the years.

                >writers turning Spider-Man villains who's not Norman into jokes
Yes, that's been a problem for some time.
"Crack" and "dislocate" is vastly different from ripping it off completely. Boxers have dislocated each other's jaws, if Slott stopped at that it would've been tolerable. But he wanted to make a powerful villain look like a joke to circlejerk over how powerful his self-insert is.

                Fuming

Trannoid, just because your attempt at arguing is similar to a woman's doesn't make you one.

There's a difference between turning someone into gore and punching their jaw off. The latter is a lot more feasible.
                >But he wanted to make a powerful villain look like a joke to circlejerk over how powerful his self-insert is
No, he wanted to establish this Spider-Man isn't a pushover.

                >There's a difference between turning someone into gore and punching their jaw off.
No, there is not. It takes a villain defined by his physical powerlevels and turns him into a wet powerbag for the sake of wanking Slott's self-insert.
                >No, he wanted to establish this Spider-Man isn't a pushover.
And there surely were no better, non-moronic ways to do so. Sure.

Spider-Man back in those days was a lot weaker. You could make the argument that Scorpion was initially a bit stronger but that went out the window once writers started wanking Pete.

OR you could simply ignore shitty writers trivializing the villains and not trivialize them further.
Maybe try not jumping all these hoops for the sake of mental gymnastics required to defend Slottslop.

Yes, it does, moron. When you tear through your PHYSICAL villain like a piece of wet paper with one punch, it absolutely does. Scorpion may have fell off on hard times over the years, but shit like this effectively turned him into an unthreatening joke completely.
                >Spider-Man is no longer a push over, something which was a welcome change of pace.
The only reason Peter was a "pushover" in the first place is because the fat homosexual Slott was writing him like that.
It's not any kind of "change of pace". It's just Slott putting a bandaid on a knife wound he inflicted in the first place.

Oh, wait, you think trying to genocide majority of human race then playing pretend a hero and bailing out because things got too hard for him is not cuck supreme? You're an actual cuck.

Spider-Man back in those days was a lot weaker. You could make the argument that Scorpion was initially a bit stronger but that went out the window once writers started wanking Pete.

Spidey should've killed Scorpion and the rest of his rogues gallery a long time along.
Spider-Shadow was based for this reason.

Spider-Man is a superhuman who does what he does because he still thinks he can save the villains he fights
It's also out of principal so as not to scare the nearby civilians that he purposefully doesn't go all out
Batmarysue just pulls whatever gadget, gizmo, or made up technique out of his ass now if the story calls for it despite him being a normal human.

                Completely different circumstances.

And now let me specify how "Spider-Man holds back" actually works versus how fanboys (distinction from "fans" here) want it to work.
    >easy modo
    Mysterio.
    Kingpin and the Enforcers.
    Vulture.
    Doc Ock.
    Electro (human form)
    Chameleon
Basically squishy normal humans. Spider-Man does hold back against these.
    >normal mode tier
Shocker (yes, his silly suit is actually high-tier bulletproof armor that does absorb some of the impact)
Kraven (assuming there's some enhancing potion at play.)
Jack O'Lantern (while it was a one-hit KO in their first fight, Spider-Man specifically said that it felt good to go all out on punching him because his helmet would protect him)
Still squishy humans but with protective gear so Peter can somewhat let loose. Actually I kind of think Vulture should be here, but it evens out by him being so decrepit a flick on the forehead could probably kill him if he's out of the suit.
    >equals or superior tier
    Green Goblin
    Hobgoblin
    Scorpion
Lizard (if Peter does hold back here, it's mostly to avoid hurting Doctor Connors. Heard they were split into two different entities now, so it's most likely no longer in play.)
Physically enhanced villains Peter does not normally hold back against
Venom is a fine line between this tier and the next
    >"Don't even fricking bother throwing hands" tier
    Rhino
    Sandman
    Carnage
    Hydroman
Actually holding back against these guys is suicide. In fact, it's better to have a plan instead of just trying to punch them.
When what you're doing is "Peter could easily beat them all, he's just too nice of a guy so he holds back" you actually make him a much shittier hero because at that point no villain actually poses a threat to him and his fights are boring as a result.
And yes, Wells making him a jobber who can't do anything right is just as bad. It's not black and white.

      >Why was it so fricking good?
Unlike Spidey's antiheroes like Venom and Reilly and Kaine when Otto became Spidey he actually had to learn about becoming a hero instead of just pulling the rebel schtick the others did when they face turned.
It actually made me root for fatass being a better person, which works well because I was a big fan of Spider-Man 2's Doc Ock who is a much more sympathetic figure.

Arkham definitely has a soul, partly due to it being developed by Brits who tend to put more thought into products based around such IPs.
Can't say whether Insomniac has soul but it's a fuller Spider-Man experience, at least the first one.
