During the mutiny or afterwards, the guy who headed the maintenance crews for the Vipers said that Colony military cut corners when they built Battlestar Galactica and something about how the constant FTL jumps along with all the attacks the ship took were straining the hull integrity. They started using that Cylon biotechnology cement to help repair the ship but Gaius Baltar complained about putting Cylon material into the veins of Galactica.

There's a cool story about one of the early episodes, maybe the very first episode of the series. It goes something like this: Tigh and Adama are talking about what happened overnight across the fleet and Adama's reading a report on deaths. So-n-so many accidents, whatever. Olmos wanted to ad lib something about how there had been so-n-so many suicides, but the bosses wouldn't let it into the edit cause it was just TOO dark. Which if you think about it is kinda funny considering just how dark the show ended up going over the years.

Anyway, to answer your question they were apparently killing themselves left and right.

Reading, cards, board games. A lot of people take classes and study during free time.

Only show to say anything about Iraq while the rest of the media was shitting itself over getting Dixie Chicked. Actually makes an argument for suicide bombing. Brave but not my favourite period of the show even though Exodus was very exciting at the end.

Also, Gaeta trying to reinstall the operating system from a hundred floppy discs while people shout at him.

One for GenX perhaps (like the retrotech wasn't a clue). Less timeless than it seemed at the time but its still great.

      Checked.

The timeliness of it is part of what made it great. All the anxiety at the time in America about terrorists, the enemy within, GWOT, the aftermath of 9/11, it was all reflected in BSG. I remember it being really surreal to come home from deployment and binge watch a season of it on dvd, and see the stuff I had just been doing allegorically reflected like that.

It’s way too much to unload here but yeah the main takeaway is that these women weren’t offering themselves as sex slaves purely because they were brainwashed (I mean yeah they were definitely brainwashed on SOME level) but a big part of it was because they were forced to give some form of life ruining “collateral” to join this mocked up “female empowerment group” that Allison Mack helped Keith create so they could have a hierarchy system of slaves and masters where Keith was at the top and if anyone so much as questioned anything they were being forced to do, Keith and Allison would release the blackmail to literally everyone the woman knew and shun them for life effectively cutting them off from everyone they know including their family in most cases. I could go further into detail but there was so much crazy stuff I wouldn’t know where to begin to get into specifics

Yeah I was sort of skimming some articles and whatnot, even though Vice has fallen off big time and largely sucks now, I saw they had made a video titled “the worlds laziest cult” or some shit that I might check out once I have some more background info because I don’t trust Vice to be impartial

I don't know about lazy considering they produce movies and have HQs in major cities all over the world. I found out about them because they had a big event in my city and some cult member was handing out copies of one of their leader's books (which was pretty hilarious because they claim in it that he has written like 10,000 books or something crazy and it turns out they just transcribe every speech he gives into booklets, lol). Anyway, based on the book and the little digging I did they have some crazy lore and I've been meaning to check out one of the movies they produced just to see how nuts it is (it might be entry level shit that doesn't get to crazy but the book I ended up with had a section buried in the back about different types of "space people").

If you're into cults check out "Happy Science." They're a batshit Japanese one that makes anime, lol.

Thanks for the rec, I’ll have to check this out because I’ve actually never heard of it before. Ever since I heard about Shen Yun a couple years back from my gf I’ve been interested in Asian cults, they’re just so much more autistic than Western cults (which is saying quite a lot) that they’re especially fascinating. Any introductory material you’d recommend either reading or watching on them?

                >they’re just so much more autistic than Western cults (which is saying quite a lot) that they’re especially fascinating
They usually have a weird political dimension you don't see in Western ones. Maybe it's because they didn't have the influence of Abrahamic religion to ape from. You can also check out Yukio Mishima and his quasi-cult based around nationalism and his theories of art/beauty.

        >eating cats
They had to outlaw this in Vietnam because the rat population exploded and destroyed the rice harvest one year.

Wasn't there like 2 episodes just about that. The day to day?
I think they were building a prototype fighter during it and another one has the drug scandal as part of the plot.

I remember watching this show as a kid. Grace Park is so unbelievably hot to me I might have to go and watch it again. Every time I watch a show that I liked as a kid I always go, "Ohhh, so that's why I have yellow fever." Kek. That'll be my excuse when /misc/ creates the 4th Reich: "I'm sorry Mein Fuhrer, I was programmed by the tribe..."

    so was the basic timeline
    >humans are on Kobol
    >they are in 12 tribes
    >they create artificial life-forms, similar to (but not) Cylons
    >the Kobol "Cylons" evolve and humanoid, becoming the 13th tribe
    4000 years ago:
    >the 13th tribe leave to settle on (Old) Earth
    >the other 12 tribes leave kobol for the 12 colonies
    2000 years ago:
    >the 13th tribe creates its own cylons, which rebel and destroy (Old) Earth
    >the survivors (the final five) try to go back to Kobol, but it's abandoned
    50 years ago
    >12 colonies create their own cylons
    >the cylons rebel and there's a huge war
    >the final five finally show up and tell the cylons they'll give them download/humanoid cylon technology if they back off
    >they do
    present day
    >john is butthurt about mommy not loving him the most and hates humans
    >represses the final five's memories and tries to wipe out humans
    >a bunch of shit in the show happens and then they find the ruined (Old) Earth and then caveman-era actual Earth

Don't bother. This was a mystery box show in a mystery box era of television. The Cylons never had a plan, just watch it for the space battles kino.

      tldr is
      >0 years ago, 12 colonies create centurions which destroy them
      >2000 years ago, humanoid cylons create centurions which destroy them
      >4000 years ago, nothing happens
      >6000 years ago, nothing happens
      >150,000 years in the future, it hasn't happened since
why is the theme "All this has happened before, and it will all happen again" when it only happened twice?

        Anonymous

Because it happened before on Kobol, Earth (13), and the Twelve Colonies, and will likely happen again thanks to the law of averages - 150,000 years later, Earth in 2010, we're developing robotics and artificial intelligence. At least one of the Messengers bets no on it happening again.

It didn't happen on Kobol. Kobol's humans created the 13th tribe but they just went to Earth while the humans went to the 12 colonies.

there is no indication in the show about what caused the exodus, only that it happened and that the 13th tribe (cylons) left 2000 years earlier.

There's a new series out soon but it'll be some weird shit.

God this show had good music, I appreciate 2001 made zero gravity classical music, I think homeworld and this show cemented space combat as Arab/Indian music.

Thanks for ruining it, I can't stand any Indian stuff after finding out that the people in the country of India worship their cows by eating cow dung and bathing in the shit. Indians believe bathing in cow dung will protect them from COVID-19 or some other diseases.

I think what I disliked most was the complete lack of discipline, I know that I'm going to get called autistic, but the constant steamy shit was kinda boring especially when nobody ever actually gets there breasts out. That and the DRAMA, honestly what I'm saying is someone should have shot Starbuck out an airlock in the first episode.

I think there was an episode where Starbuck was out flying and she died in some kind of storm. She returns at the end of that season as the Battlstar Galactica were about to face off with a Cylon battle group. Later in the next season, Starbuck and that hippie White guy, who thinks he is god, find Starbuck's body, the one where she died in the storm flying the Viper, which scared off the hippie White guy.
