Bayou Adventure Incoming Flop

Well the shills spent years carrying water for Disney but in a few days no one will be defending this ride

>Shit / nonexistent / nonsense story
>main character looks like a grandma
>screens
>no Facilier
>there is no real reason for the drop in the ride
excited to see shills switch into cope mode, wonder who they will blame for this one

This is my problem with the ride. Splash mountain was a cohesive story told all the way through from queue to exit. This is just lazy. On paper it could have worked, chuds can seethe all they want but princess and the frog was a good movie and more deserving of a ride than most, but they dropped the ball. It seems like all they can "imagine" now is that kids want to see the character so they just have them show up so the robot can wave with no thought on why they are there or how the attraction can expand the story of the film and its themes. I like how they had to CGI Frozenize Tiana and now kids will want to see that movie and realize it's 2d animated and move on to Skibidi toilet.

That applies to California but for the Florida version it's quite out of place. They totally could have expanded on the "critter country" thing and made a Tiana bayou ride behind splash or something so everything blends better, but now it's just a patch of louisiana swamp surrounded by utah. Splash looked a little better next to Big Thunder Mountain but Tiana's is too lush and green.

On the upside, if Disney isn't doing SPLASH MOUNTAIN, then everyone else can.

Theoretically, it's drifting into ABANDONED IP zones. And since Disney is almost dead as a corporate entity, the quicker that's grabbed the surer the claims to knockoff legality in ownership.

the Kong ride was iconic but it was definitely dated in the 90s

Timing was still weird since the Peter Jackson movie came out just a few years after the closure. The studio had to have come to an agreement with PJ that he'd be doing Kong after he got done with Rings by then, right?

Would've had to be re-themed either way. The Kong ride in Orlando was themed to the movie that had it in modern-day (1980s) New York. The ride queue was this graffiti'd up subway wall with urban stank piped in.

Plus in Peter Jackson's King Kong 85% of the movie was spent going to Kong Island and back

            >We're sensitive to how dismissive people are of the "Book report" dark ride format, so we're making weird sequels and interquels with our cartoon IP characters instead
            >The MCU inspired rides are set in a part of the multiverse where Tony didn't die and the Snap never happened and there's a weird metatextual element where superheroes are either building outposts in our theme parks or the theme parks were built around the outposts.
            >We made up a new planet for Galaxy's Edge so that the guest experience can be canon to Star Wars because our guests canonically could never go to planets featured in the movies because there is no room to insert them directly into movie narratives even as an unseen Glup Shitto.
            >Title signage for rides ruins the immersion of our sci-fi IP lands

              Anonymous

The only problem with the "book report" rides are that they use dated technology, the Little Mermaid and Monsters Inc. rides are the worst offenders in that regard. A book report ride works if it immerses you in the story in a new way, like the new Beauty and the Beast ride in Japan.

                Anonymous

The old ones worked great since they were built around gimmicks. Toad was a zippity car. Peter pan was about flying. Snow white was about jump scares. So the book report took a back seat to whatever the gimmick was.

Beauty and the Beast works by lingering, which is fine, but it makes the wait times extremely long.
Mermaid etc. are dogshit. Like, they were doing "UNDER THE FRICKING SEA". Other than the initial dip there's nothing.
Imagine floating up and down a massive under the sea room with the chair spinning so that there's stuff going on all around you and an impression of the sea extending in all directions?
Imagine the final battle scene, since you're on the surface during stormy seas, your chair rocks around.

Toad was great because it diverges enough from the actual movie to put on its own little morality play where, at the end, Toad crashes into a train and goes to actual Hell.

I went to Disney World for the first time this year and was extremely underwhelmed with every ride. Cedar Point in Ohio, OHIO! takes a steaming shit all over them in the ride department. And you can actually ride the rides in Cedar Point, not stand in line for two hours looking at dwarf gems or be banned for the day because you didn't win the fast pass lottery at midnight.

That looks like a lot of fun. Small quaint parks like that have a really nice charm to them. They're not trying hard and they don't have to prove anything. Reminds me of stuff I'd build in RCT 2.

I feel sorry for all the parents that are duped into going to Disney. They spend several thousand dollars and it seems like a lot of frustration and tedium for not a lot in return. They've pretty much removed or "paywalled" everything that once made the park experience enjoyable— even just a bus ride from the airport. It's also very gay now. I can at least understand going to Tokyo Disney as it's not only cheaper, but also well maintained; and it's not brimming with third worlders.

I realize I would never be happy with anything replacing Splash Mountain because it is sacred, but why retheme it to a movie from 15 years ago that no one talks about? Don't get me wrong, I liked Princess and the Frog, but it baffles me that Disney didn't choose a theme that's a little more current. It seems to me that they chose the easiest and cheapest retheme with the added bonus of having a black main character.

I feel like the best alternatives for Florida would have been an "Tall Tales" thing with John Henry, Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill or just slapping Muppets in there since Imagineering does seem to be the one Disney division that actually likes them anyways and Kermit inviting his friends to the swamp is a good enough excuse to keep the old animals too. Of course, Disney corporate doesn't give a shit about either of those things.

There's also the factor of Disneyland having a New Orleans themed area right next to Splash Mountain's Critter Country, so a movie set in New Orleans makes sense as a retheme.
As much of a fuss people make about Tiana being an awkward fit for Magic Kingdom's Frontierland, Splash had the same issue since the slot it was built on was originally intended for a big Pirates-esque flume ride about cowboys that never got built and the neighboring western town and Big Thunder Mountain make that readily apparent.

      >make a movie called "Splash Mountain" based after the ride

The Twilight Zone is just a framing device for the original story of "Spooky hotel elevator traps a bunch of Hollywood actors from the 30s". You don't need Rod Serling and all that crap from the theme song to make a movie out of it, which is what they did with that 1997 TV movie with Steve Gutenberg and young Kirsten Dunst.

          Anonymous

It was only lightning in a bottle because it was poorly done. The basic framing for Haunted Mansion wasn’t bad at all. I can’t remember much for the Eddie Murphy one, but the one that came out just this past year wasn’t awful at its base: family moves into mansion, it’s scary, skeptic helps, color cast of familiar faces punches up the experience into something unforgettable. I would daresay it’s actually a pretty good film for a kid as-is, it just needs more work to be appealing to adults as well.

After watching it I was surprised it bombed as badly as it did. It sure dragged on and wasn’t great at all, but it was certainly bearable. I think its failure is emblematic of the loss of trust families have in Disney. All their films are bombing across the board unless they are a name that alone carries a seal of quality. But that’s just my opinion.

it's because of the politics of replacing the "racist" song of the south with the "empowering" princess and the frog.

fast forward another 20 years when society will have decided that princess and the frog was "racist"

but by that point anyone capabale of making something new won't be in the position to, because everyonce competent will have been forced out by DEI.

      >life savings
As bad as inflation is Disney is still consistently 750-2k in price depending on if you stay local or drive for an hour or two. My cousin lives close to the park and we stay with her family when we go. Only price is the ticket and whatever we buy at the park.

Maybe not life savings, but there is a shocking amount of people who have no qualms tossing away thousands for a weekend. I wish I remembered the name of the Disney forum with hundreds of people with families happily showing off their plans for their next 5 trips, gloating that this one will cost them $10k+ for 5 days because they stay at the best hotels and pay for all the extras. The best move Disney ever made was indoctrinating entire generations to become lifetime customers from birth, and pass that down to their kids.

I took my family to disneyland for the past 3 years. It's expensive as hell but worth it if you have kids and if you team up with another family. I can't understand adults who spend money on it for themselves.

? Frick no. It’s wildly expensive but not life savings bad unless you’re young and going all out on some shitty Disney cruise. I went to all four parks in Florida with my gf last year and it was like maybe 1.5-2k for tickets every day, hotels, food, drinks, and souvenirs. We used to go all the time since we live in San Diego and we’re only about an hour away but the prices have gotten moronic.

Why though? Seriously, if you live in American you can go and visiting amazing cities or landscapes for less than 1k for a week+ and go overseas for 2k-3k for more time. Last year I went to Europe for 10 days for 2.5k and road tripped across all America for like 800. Better food, better sights, better deals.

Because we wanted to go to the parks. I’d never been to Disney World and wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and also to check out what their themed hotels were like. I didn’t say it was the most affordable trip, but 1.5k isn’t *that* bad. We only had a week to use at that time, and spent the rest of it on the beach with family that lives in Rockledge, near Melbourne. I could get a better deal for authentic Mexican food than eating at Taco Bell, but sometimes I want Taco Bell.

You see, back in the 19th century a white guy liked black people's stories. He wrote them down so they wouldn't fade away, using black southern vernacular at the time. This was considered uncouth and unfitting of polite white society. The stories became popular anyway. A hundred years later, it was considered cultural appropriation and racist that he did that rather than letting black people tell their own stories.

So a ride, based on a movie, based on those stories had to be taken out because a drug addict got kneed to death by a cop.

Tokyo Disney is run by a group called the Oriental Land Company and Disney only gets licensing fee money from them since Disney was too busy with building Epcot Center to put up the money for actually building it. Because of this, OLC can re-invest the money they get from their parks back into them and management culture hold themselves to the high maintenance standards that the American parks held themselves to back in the 80s. And since Japanese Disney Adults are such big spenders, OLC is more willing to give the Imagineers a shitload of money to play with.

Meanwhile in Tokyo as of last month:

Its really sad that American Imagineering has seemingly completely forgotten how to make engaging rides.

Yeah this might be the best Disney ride in the world now imo, only things that could be at or above this level are the Beauty and the Beast ride in Japan and Rise of the Resistance. It's kinda cool how the. The boat flying backwards at 6:50 really makes it feel like you're getting thrown into a song sequence and there's so many scenes with tons of animatronics doing shit. Only thing is the Let it Go part seems kinda long but then again that song took over the world so I can see why it's so prominent

Definitely going to check it out next time I go. Only problem is the goddamn Japanese will wait in the lines all damn day. 4 hours is no big for them, you inly ever see that over here with like Indiana Jones

Queues are not much of an issue there. Rather than fast pass, you can just pay to queue jump the big rides. People were queuing for like 2 hours to go on that ride, or you could pay about $10 to go straight on. Considering it's dirt cheap to get in anyway, anything with a queue over 30 minutes I just paid for.

          Anonymous

How do you pay to jump the queue? I never saw that option and no one offered. You are right though, the price for admission along with food and souvenirs is ridiculously cheap. My gf always wants to get a new popcorn box or whatever and the first time we went I was dreading it expecting American prices but it was like 25 bucks lol

            Anonymous

Download the Tokyo Disney app. You can just pay for queue jump tickets on there when you're in the park, then you just get a qr code they scan at the front of the fastpass queue.

Well this makes it official for me, Disney has got to be purposely trying to go out of business for reasons I don't understand. Maybe that's it, they're gonna just cash out and give all the higher ups ultra bonuses and then file for Chapter 11 protections. Something IS up because too many big companies are going dark. Toys R Us AND 99 Cents Only Stores?!? There's something on the horizon and I don't like it, but CLEARLY Disney is on a self destruct mission.....I mean who in the frick would greenlight this piece of shit "ride?"

It’s such a betrayal of the Disney vibe. I can’t really describe, it’s a viersal betrayal. Like going to your old neighbor and seeing it’s full of crackheads speaking gutter Spanish and they cut down all the trees that were older than they were.

Original plot was Tiana was going to find ingredients for her new co-operative store. That mostly got scrapped for "lets go to a party!" but there are still fragments around (Tiana's explorer outfit, a few references to her co-op, the veg garden).

Not to if Iger's "boring" criticism was before or after that but there's definitely been a rework and budget cuts.

For those curious, Facilier was never an option for this ride, and that means even just retelling the movie wasn't a choice either. Disney decided voodoo is problematic, which is why Mama Odie is now getting referred to as a "Bayou Fairy Godmother" as opposed to a voodoo priestess. Which makes it deeply ironic that they replaced the theming from a movie that was randomly deemed problematic with another movie that they themselves randomly deemed problematic.

It’s because it’s a stereotype that blacks in the Louisiana area believed in and practiced voodoo, and since any *possibly* negative stereotype must be abolished unless it’s whites, they removed it.

It’s always a fun time for me, but I’m incredibly nostalgic for the parks and they tend to remain clean because it’s the one thing Disney takes very seriously. Kids these days tend to be okay with it, but less as time goes on due to instant gratification and a loss of Disney’s relevance comparatively. I’m confident it’s something Disney could still fix if they get some competent leadership and make concerted efforts but I’m not optimistic about that whatsoever. If I were a major shareholder I’d be looking to jump ship before I sink with everyone else, to be honest.
