This is correct but BCB is possibly an example of planning out the destination but fricking up the Journey. Because Taeshi has all but Nuked the Mike and Lucy ship. Logically it can't pan out because of how badly Lucy's been handled since her return, how Mike was a sperg gremlin for half a decade out of universe, and the mess that is eternal flame.
Way i see it, there's really no credible way for Mike and Lucy being a thing again. Whatever the conclusion of the story, i think it'll end up being at least midly frustrating, even in the best case scenario.

At most they can be friends and keep it there, or ends on them starting to actually have legit feelings for each other after they become more mentally stable but we never see them date, just recognize it. Taeshi's messed up too much for them to get together especially at this point

I have never read the fic so have no idea what happens in it save for passing mentions. But it occurs that Lucy could end up fully domesticated and happy as a set-up for more soul-breaking. Say, a visibly horrified Mike discovering what's become of her, shaking Lucy out of her haze in the worst way.
So it seems Second Confrontation's plot twists and turns as much as the story it's based off of
