If it's the call, theoretically that's a respectable fixit effort. But after this intermission there's no reason to expect anything halfway sensible.

Because there is no consistent character design. Everyone is constantly off-model, like in Steven Universe, because learning basics such as anatomy and proportion is a mark of artistic failure.

Honestly, this page and the last should have been something else. Yeah it was a retcon that james had been watching Mike, but trying to explain it just makes more questions than answers.
This whole chapter could have been better if it just focused on Mike getting to know the track team. That insert with Daisy and Paulo didn't lend anything to the chapter at hand. It just took up space and could have been its own little chapter later on.
Instead due to that we just skip to mike feeling like shit while talking to Sandy in bed.

Taeshi used to say her writing was above Degrassi stuff, and that was why it included no love triangles or drug abuse plots or teen pregnancies. Pregnancy scares, of course, were clearly on the table if it made her Paulo x Lucy boner tingle.

This. Feels like there was no real payoff whatsoever. Even if they didn't get together, I wish there was some sort of development between them. Besides this stupid flip floppy bullshit that we are dealing with right now.
This "BCI" was just part of the comic before it got removed for mysterious reasons. Probably because Paulo day dreaming about a Lucy pregnancy scare got too close to the ending of the comic so it needed to be removed until later.
Mike suicide arc.
Daisy realizes Paulo is still not over Lucy. This hurts her deeply, and out of vindictiveness she decides to "steal" Mike in order to hurt Lucy and Paulo.
Mike accepts it because it's a welcome distraction from his self-pity, and because it's nice to have someone interested in him again. Daisy and Track become his two crutches that he uses to keep limping along despite the intrusion of depressive thoughts.
Lucy goes back to the table and b***hes about Mike being a jerk and Daisy being immature. Augustus calls her out on how hypocritical that is only to be shot down, Sue agrees that Daisy is being dumb, Paulo gets angry and jealous.
Paulo goes to confront Daisy, trash-talking both Mike and himself. Daisy decides to twist the knife a bit by asking if he's mad that Lucy isn't over Mike, and Paulo responds that Daisy's just mad she's Mikey's 3rd choice. Daisy and Paulo are both severely rattled by this conversation.
Daisy comforts herself by making moves on Mike, thinking that it proves she's really first after all. Mike is uncomfortable, but lets it happen after remembering how he pushed Sandy and Lucy away when they tried.

In the commentary last page, Taeshi proudly announced that she immediately had several ideas when readers asked why James hadn't noticed Paulo or Mike during such and such loud event. Which means she literally did not think any of this through ahead of time and had to be told in the kindest possible way by her dipshit sycophant fans that this shit just did not make sense. This intermission is Taeshi trying to justify her own writing and pratfalling even harder than before.
She needs to kill time and the best way for her to do that is to waste everyone else's. So we get saddled with a lot of nothing.
