I remember when ushers would walk around and kick people out who are disturbing people. Now you are the one asked to leave if you complain about the movie ruiners yelling to each other in the theater.
This. Reading threads here about awful movie theater experiences is interesting because nothing remotely like it happens at my screenings. People show up, sit down, watch the movie respectfully and then leave. Most there'll be is a couple people chatting under their breath during the trailers which is a non-issue.
probably. Movie theaters are like baby sitters for teens. If they close down these kids will be wandering the streets causing trouble. Or sitting in their cars.
no, people will always be motivated to produce cinema, the industry cannot "die", it will simply be replaced by something better if ordinary Hollywood is destroyed
Yes. The social experience. Gathering together, listening to the old tales, watching the lights flicker on the wall... sharing reactions, sharing emotion. We've been doing this for a very long time.
Which causes me to hate modern Hollywood more than ever.
A little bit. I only ever go to this pretty small place in the next town over. It's not even closest to me and I think they're struggling keeping things going but that's where we always went when I was a kid.
The same girl (a woman now, i guess) has worked at the counter for like 20 years and i like seeing her. She used to be the owner's daughter but now she owns the place. i don't want to give money to someone else. Those big new kinoplexes don't have soul anyway
>would you really be that upset if the movie theater industry died?
I'd be happy, actually. Who the frick needs movie theaters in the >current year anyway? All the best movies already came out decades ago and they're no longer shown in theaters, so why even bother?
I'm not upset that the pony express and zeppelin industries died, so no. They will survive in small numbers catering to enthusiasts, eventually ending up like those living historic villages, but it's clearly an outdated idea for a business.
It won't die, not fully. They'll just fade and there will be a tiny fraction of the amount there are now.
I guess it will be kind of sad but I've already seen local cinemas closed and been sad about that. It won't be any sadder.
And they deserve it. The business doesn't make sense when everyone has a 50'' lcd in their homes where they can also eat snacks that don't cost an arm and a leg, can pause when they need the loo, and don't have to deal with the general public existing.

I truly do wonder what the fix is. Someone mentioned memberships, which might work if the perks are worth it andi keeps the riff raff away. The problem, of course, is that a lot of movies now just aren't worth seeing and even if they are, they'll be on streaming 3 weeks later.
I would say offer steep discounts on concessions for members or make it a dinner and a movie type of experience, but then you have the sounds of people eating.
Theaters seem to be going the way of Blockbuster.
Who the frick wants to go to a crowded dirty place where people are talking loud, farting, look at their phones, etc.?
I worked at a movie theater in high school and the seats are NEVER cleaned. The shit that's encrusted on top of seats and armrests would be a bio-hazard if the health authorities caught wind. We just sprayed and did a quick rubdown instead of completely disinfecting and steam-cleaning (which should be done but that takes a lot of time and we have to clean up for the next airing which is usually in 30 or so minutes).
My bros and I have movie nights in a buddy's converted barn which serves as our gaming/movie/drinking hole. We can shoot pool, do Foosball, play bocci, play PC/console games, drink beer & liquor or movies on a huge projector.
>My bros and I have movie nights in a buddy's converted barn which serves as our gaming/movie/drinking hole. We can shoot pool, do Foosball, play bocci, play PC/console games, drink beer & liquor or movies on a huge projector.
Sounds kni. But yeah, part of the theaters' demise is the people, the sanitary concerns,.and just plain shitty venues.
Born in 1992 here. Yeah the theaters were a great place (as was Blockbuster on a Friday night) back in the 90's and 00's. We didn't have streaming and high-speed Internet. Now we do.
Back then, going to the movies was for the social experience. You went there with your friends and family. And for dinner and a movie when going out on dates.
But the market's changed and kung flu helped destroy people's perceptions of public spaces. Shit, I still bring disinfectant wherever I got and refuse to sit or touch on anything that isn't mine.

Do you have gay orgies too when you get drunk enough? Who tops and who bottoms? I’ll be jerking off to your answers btw.
Not really. The amount of money paid to sit there and watch ads and then have to risk dealing with morons texting or talking during the movie just isn’t worth it. And ever since tickets crossed the $10 line I haven’t bothered with going to the movies unless it’s a movie that I REALLY want to see and those are just getting rarer and rarer.
Last year I went to the movies once and it was to see a rerun of Escape From New York and I left two thirds into the movie because people were talking and being annoying.
I only go to movies for the matinee show when it's rerunning a classic. I saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Back to the Future, Alien, Heat, Dazed and Confused, and The Monster Squad at the nearby indie theater. Only costed me 5 bucks for a noon showing.
Yes, because I don't live around Black folk and movie theaters are still nice places.
I take it you don't live in the US?
You are correct.
Consider yourself fortunate.
I remember when ushers would walk around and kick people out who are disturbing people. Now you are the one asked to leave if you complain about the movie ruiners yelling to each other in the theater.
You're a Karen if you insist that people follow basic rules of etiquette now.
Civility is oppressive and a white people thing
Sounds like a members-only cinema is necessary in the States.
The only usher I know is the Black musical artist. We never had them in our cinemas.
Yes, because they don't want to escalate the situation since the ones usually offending will literally burn the place down.

Canada is pretty fricking bad too. GTA Ontario theaters are full of brown high schoolers that won't shut the frick up.
Can you and the uk just keel over and fricking die? That would be great! Thank you!
probably. Movie theaters are like baby sitters for teens. If they close down these kids will be wandering the streets causing trouble. Or sitting in their cars.
>If they close down these kids will be wandering the streets causing trouble.
Anon, I...
Though the experience can be ruined by absolute c**ts, I like going to the cinema
Where the hell else am I going to do a heroic dose of LSD?!
Me going to see Avatar 2 in 60FPS
no, people will always be motivated to produce cinema, the industry cannot "die", it will simply be replaced by something better if ordinary Hollywood is destroyed
I think OP was talking mainly about physical movie theaters.
Yes. The social experience. Gathering together, listening to the old tales, watching the lights flicker on the wall... sharing reactions, sharing emotion. We've been doing this for a very long time.
Which causes me to hate modern Hollywood more than ever.
Watching a movie in a theater is literally one of the LEAST social activities you can participate in though
>The social experience.
"shhhhh dickhead we're trying to listen here, this ain't social gathering"
A little bit. I only ever go to this pretty small place in the next town over. It's not even closest to me and I think they're struggling keeping things going but that's where we always went when I was a kid.

I hope they stay in business, fren. Seems very comfy.

yes, a new release that i've been anticipating must be seen in the theater or i'll always wonder how much better it could've been.
In it's current state: no.
I'm not upset that the pony express and zeppelin industries died, so no. They will survive in small numbers catering to enthusiasts, eventually ending up like those living historic villages, but it's clearly an outdated idea for a business.
Pretty much. A lot of newer theaters that are built also have bowling alleys and other stuff, they're not just movie theaters any more.
Adapt, Evolve or go extinct. I have no problem with things coming and going. In my local area the drive ins are making a return.
>In my local area the drive ins are making a return.
Absolutely based.
By trashing the kino I am creating jobs. I am literally increasing the GDP every time I shit up the cinema.

Your mom should know. We jerk off to her after she sucks us dry.
Not that anon, but how could you jerk off after being sucked dry? Something about your post doesn't add up.
Even with out of control inflation a decent home theater is affordable, probably not a coincidence
Nope. There's a frickton of older movies and shows that I can go through while Hollywood can eat a dick.
I haven't been to a movie theater in a decade.
Not really. The amount of money paid to sit there and watch ads and then have to risk dealing with morons texting or talking during the movie just isn’t worth it. I have not been to a movie in over 4 years
Only if it happens before Based Benis can finish his Dune trilogy. Beyond that, I don't care.
