Britisher sirs??
army trained for open ground combat and gentleman war traveling through lush territory theyve never been in gets BTFO in ambush by bushmen in the territory they hunt in everyday
also see;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_the_Teutoburg_Forest
Damn it's almost as if committing yourself to conventional symmetric warfare and a foreign land extremely distant from any type of supply lines or reinforcements is a bad idea haha who would have thunk it
The Romans were simply caught lacking, they never intended to fight in the middle of the forest
No idea what you are trying to reference, but the British absolutely has every intention of conquering with a small expeditionary Force exactly the way hernan Cortez did. Sucks they got btfo initially LOL
Are you moronic?
Teutoburg could have been a closer battle if Varus had them marching in combat formation. The Germans took advantage of the fact that they were separated into sections by a couple of miles each.
Every war with the British goes like this
>send in army by bumbling general
>it gets smashed by a much weaker force
>parliament decides to win war due to having more money
>war is then won
>losing side gets independence 200 years later and brags about the 1 battle they won non-stop
no they weren't almost all of their fighting was done outside of europe. Infantry columns run a train through irregular armies 90% of the time
British didn’t use columns, other than for marching from a to b.
yeah they did up until the boer war
and its how they won the boer war as well
Wrong. Columns were only used to assault breaches. Seldom used on open battlefield. Because a line beats a column every time.
>Columns were only used to assault breaches. Seldom used on open battlefield
The French Revolutionary and Napoleonic infantry used column formations with great success. The key was that column formations were used to maneuver troops into place before deploying into a standard firing line formation. French troops at Austerlitz maneuvered into place in column formation before deploying to engage in line combat. Trying to move a line of infantry on anything other than flat and open terrain was just asking for the formation to become disrupted and harder to control.
Yeah, but Native Americans aren't Germans.
Remember all the time the British annihilated the Zulus despite being 15 to 15000?
Either native indians just fought better, or it all comes down to being able to defend from a fortified position.
At that time natives had been trading with Europeans for decades. The most commonly traded goods were guns and ammunition so the natives were largely using the same weapons as the Europeans.
Indians had guns while the Zulus didn't. That makes a huge difference.
>Indians had guns while the Zulus didn't.
Yes they did. They couldn't fire them in a straight line, but they certainly had them.
Zulus had guns.
British people surrender all the time, they surrendered their own country to groomers
Good morning sir
>Get btfo by natives still in the stone age
I don't see any Bri'ish reservations around here.
europe is such a shit hole
Since it’s based on actual events, I’d say it’s pretty realistic.
If it's uncharted territory, why is there a road? If there's a road, why are you taking it if you want to be stealthy?
Why would you want to be stealthy if you’re retreating under the terms of a negotiated truce?
>be america, the biggest military in history
>get btfo by jungle savages, desert savages for almost 100 years
Those were called training missions, and we now own both the heroin and sugar markets. We never lose.
>Be professional American army comprised of 3 million fully equipped and fully trained soldiers with the latest and most powerful technology
>Get btfo by vietcongs living in bamboo huts
How realistic was this war?
boomers can't fight for shit.
tax cattle like you pays for their campaigns, so that makes you a cuck as well.
>In one of the most notorious incidents of the French and Indian War, Montcalm's Indian allies violated the agreed terms of surrender and attacked the departing British column, which had been deprived of ammunition, as it left the fort. They killed and scalped numerous soldiers and civilians, took as captives women, children, servants, and slaves, and slaughtered sick and wounded prisoners. Early accounts of the events called it a massacre and implied that as many as 1,500 people were killed, although it is unlikely more than 200 people (less than 10% of the British fighting strength) were actually killed in the massacre.[5]
This one one of the main reasons english settlers hated the indians for decades
>Be savages
>Act like savages
>Oh my god why are you calling us savages?
the fact we let any redskins live was a mistake
Correct
>slaughtering people who invaded you
Based.
You can't "invade" if there isn't a country there. There wasn't a country there.
"A place where you'll get btfo by locals if they don't want you there" sounds like those warcucks crossed a border somewhere and got the b***h slapped out of them. Maybe if they weren't soggy batch of homosexual they'd have survived.
Concession accepted.
Nope. They were defending a border. Why do troons insist on commenting about subjects they know nothing about?
>defending
Sounds more like they where getting their shit pushed in to me.
>doesn’t deny he’s a troon
I respect your honesty
Well at least you don't deny the shit pushing. You're probably an expert in that arena.
whats the native american population currently? LMAOOOOOOOOOOOO
They were fighting WITH The French as allies, the French at this time held more land in North America than the English by a huge margin though Huron territory was in New England and stretched up into Quebecois territory
>Be Holy Roman Empire
>Get btfo by some Swiss dickheads with rocks
Freedom aint free
>If I was at Teutoburg, there would have been a lot of barbarian blood in those forests.
The chad goat fricker in flipflops mogs the virgin Imperial 200k a year war wagie. Open any history book and it's full of empires thinking "lmao I'll take this small region in a matter of-ACK"
Just look at USA vs middle east or Russia vs Ukraine. "Two weeks lmao". Imagine being a fricking war cuck, dieing for some boomer manlet.
>or Russia vs Ukraine
rent free
In your head? Why does that make you seethe brother? Are you a warcuck?
>retreating army guaranteed safe passage
>long line interspersed with baggage, women and children
>perfidious frogs strike
It was over a mile long, either end didn’t even realise the centre had been attacked. Luckily the good guys won and the frogs were kicked out of North America.
Pobody's nerfect, anon.
Why is there no kino about Sweden marching an entire army across the frozen baltic sea to btfo Denmark!?
There absolutely needs to be more colonial-native war kino. Imagine a well produced video about George Washington's mission to the French and the fight at Fort Necessity and Monongahela. The smoke, the panic, the war whoops and scalpings. Washington desperately holding onto the upper Shenandoah Valley as the outlying towns got raided and butchered. Even taking an episode-long aside to show the different tribes scheming and fighting each other, treating the europeans like a minor distraction to their tribal politics. Every action scene should be like either the Fort William Henry scene ni LOTM or the raid at the beginning of The Revenant.
I wonder if the only reason they haven't done it is because they don't want to depict the Indians as such a terrifying menace, or if it's because no one gives a frick about injuns.
A nice modern miniseries like Chernobyl or The Terror (minus the weird magic bear bullshit) of this kinda thing would be glorious.
Jared Harris as Christopher Gist, Washington's frontier guide who saved his life when he fell into the Ohio River.
Ciaran Hinds as Governor Dinwiddie who Washington kept butting heads with.
Hell, bring back the whole gang.
>Jared
>Ciaran
>Tobias
Fresh cup of instant kino, please.
Why would they glorify Colonial America while they're trying to destroy it?
lol at depicting george washington in any wa
>Why would they glorify Colonial America while they're trying to destroy it?
Unironically I think that was a trick they pulled with The Terror. The book is very much a thinly veiled satire of European colonialism and shit, almost insufferably on the nose at times. The series makes nearly all the characters more complex and more sympathetic and makes the natives less stoic and untouchable; in the books they were either wise silent wizards or innocent victims of Anglo aggression. I suspect that was the only reason they were given such a massive budget and production attention, and also why Season 2 course corrected hard into kill de Boer.
Absolutely a series like the one I imagine would have a lot of pointed commentary bits about classism and slavery and dismissal of Native allies and dishonest treaties and stuff. But in the right hands that could still be a plus.
Would make a good 1v1 board game. In pahse 1 the natives build up their numbers and tribes. The imperialist player starts rushing propaganda to manufacture invasion legitimacy. Phase 2 starts once they make the first occupation. The imperialist have much better tech but are bottle necked by logistics/international law. Natives can engage in terrorism and getting media coverage through information walls to turn public opinion against the war. Imperialist win if they successfully take over. Natives win if the Imperialist is forced to withdraw.
Sounds like a fun asemtrical strategy game.
Absolutely
I love the dynamic of it, that you see in that scene in the revenant
White settlers with muzzleloading rifles fighting guerrillas in the trees
you can´t put blacks in it so
For me it's when the French realized that China had supplied the Vietnamese with artillery.
> MONTCALM: Why do you hate the Grey Hair, Magua?
MAGUA: When the Grey Hair is dead, Magua will eat his heart. Before he dies Magua will put his children under the knife so the Grey Hair will see his seed is wiped out forever.
>How realistic was this film?
Pretty damn.
Brit-Nigs didn’t even incorporate the word “aim” into their gunnery (as in ready, AIM, fire) until after this point.
Native tactics were far more elastic and adaptable by comparison perfectly suited to the battleground. The use of tomahawks is all over historical accounts. They’d fire a volley with their rifles, and then charge in throwing tomahawks, following up finally with close-quarters-battle using spears and clubs.
Go find some historical accounts. That scene (and many others) was right on the money.
Wrong. They did have specialized light infantry / riflemen who fought as skirmishes who would aim. But yeah fusiliers of line were designed to just basically be ground takers occupiers & holders, more important than their fires was their maneuver, ground taking, and ability to rebuff actual attacking elements like cavalry through well drilled formations. Other components like cavalry and artillery were the killing power. Taking garrisoned formations like this into the wilderness against French supplied Huron & Allies was basically asking them to depend on their bayonets anyways, because when you have an ambush & cover a bow might actually be preferable even though injuns had plenty of French gunpowder weapons
Also in this battle they were fresh off a losing siege where they were probably down to eating rats & leather and shitting their guts out from lack of fresh water. Probably got absolutely shredded in intensive melee
Fusiliers of the line? Fusiliers were formed to defend baggage and supply trains. Whilst eventually, like grenadier, they lost the specialism but kept the name, the phrase you are looking for is “line infantry”.
Don’t be a Wikipedia Andy there’s all sorts of ways that words been used in military history & yes basically your term is the best modern generic one but not one used contemporaneously. Also your niche example for fusilier sounds like some one off meme for one specific military in how they used the designation fusilier but for most it was basically infantryman. Also grenadier didn’t lose its designation at all it was always the gigachad formation of tallest dudes with biggest hats and greatest predilection to push with steel, instilling fear in manlets like yourself insecure trying to debate club anons on sperg shit. And don’t you ever try to outsperg me in this niche phaggot. You’ll go the way of the commonwealth in the partition of Poland (one of humanity’s finest moments, the extinction of the polak state)
>seething moron
>is still wrong
You’re talking about the British army, so you’ll use the correct terms. And grenadiers threw grenades. Mong.
mutt Reddit historian thinks he’s Lord Kitchener lmao. You a sabaton lyrics phd? Less salt on my fries when I’m in the drive thru next time scrub & read paper books
people underestimate muskets
In india it was insane. Indian armies had cannons and gun its was just irregular and mixed with cavalry and militia got made into fricking mincemeat by line infantry sepoys even with 10x the numbers
the anglo-Mysore and anglo-maratha wars would be absolute kino
native americans are way overdone and boring. They're even one of the most boring ones in the americas
This happened to the Romans too when they went into the woods.
> two simps, bong & injun
How did they make simping seem so honorable w these two and the way they went out? They should have been contemptible or a meme but their simp sacrifice was actually potent, convincing ancien chivalry
Something about personal integrity rather than attraction for the woman. I think he would have done the same thing for a destitute colonial woman missing half her teeth and club feet.
Madeleine Stowe in LOTM is something, though. Smartest thing Michael Mann did was turn it into a gothic romance, rather than whatever the frick Fenimore Cooper was doing.
The natural location shots, haunting score, and overall momentum of the sequence from Heyward’s burning to Alice’s suicide are singularly kino for me
>anglocucks
>european
lmao Genghis pls let’s not do this again
Anons better be checking out this kino.
> woman dooms her civilization for BIC big Iberian wiener
