Comic Butcher is a significantly better character.

This. Even if I like Tv butcher's hawaiian shirts comic Butcher will always be a better more intimidating character. Besides TV Butcher is a kind of a idiot that can't really do anything right

Personally, Comic Billy is hotter looking. TV Butcher is kinda ugly.

Probably the worst person though. At least show Butcher has more empathy moments

Eh, he's both a better and worse character than the TV version. I always thought he was distilled with way too many Ennis cliches and a bit overindulgent but he has a handful of really nice character moments that make up for it.

I never understood why are beards a symbol of soi? aren't they an indicator of masculinity?

It's just because they're in fashion nowadays. Maybe back in the day beards and tattoos were reserved for bikers and tough guys now any hipster and zoomer gets tattooed while sporting some long ass groomed beard.

          Why are they so smug?

          Cause they british

Does skelly count as in shape? 130 at 6’. In my defense I have legit chronic gut problems that make food difficult. Have I earned the right to beard?

I think beards can look good on certain people

There's nothing inherently masculine about beards, beyond that men grow them. So the gist of it boils down to massive ad campaigns in the early 1900s. The blue collar workers, especially in the rougher years of the era, didn't have the time or money to buy into Gillette-via-Madison Avenue's clean-shaven hype, no matter how many baby-faced stars Hollywood pumped onto page and screen. Anyone with the time, money, and energy to burn on shaving went along with it to stay respectable (and you can see how ingrained the respectability of a hairless face was into the American consciousness by noting how many counter-culture movements have fetishized the beard since, with the beat poets and the hippies being the most prominent examples). The old view of beard as masculine draws from the fact that blue-collar guys tend towards being masculine AND tend to not want to pay 50 1910s dollars on a shaving kit.

That beards are a trait of the Soijak is a divergent but similar path. Nerds, geeks, dweebs, and other such losers separately chose to not care about looking presentable. With the current "geek is chic" pop culture mindset, the classic neckbeard (cleaned and groomed for fashion appeal), comes with it. It's a convergent evolution.

Only certain beards, mostly the unkempt neckbeard ones that grow in patchy.

It seems most sois have beards of varying thickness. A clean shaven soi is a rarity.

No beard. Söylennials ruined beards for me. No beards have a history of being associated with real men. Anyone who says otherwise is just beardcope.

They should seriously make a straight adaptation of the boys comic using that art style they used in the Diabolical Short. Also was anyone else surprised by the fact they got Michael Cera to do the voice of The Great Wide Wonder? Perfect casting all around on that short.

The main problem is that a straight up adaption is extremely dated. The superhero pop culture scene has changed completely since then and the 9/11 stuff has no bite whatsoever like it once did. Not to mention Simon Pegg no longer being the spring chicken he once was. An animated spinoff would be nice but it seems a bit redundant considering the show is taking most of the general broad strokes.

I genunely thinkk the two properties have diverged to such a degree that I think they would provide two complimentary yet entirely different takes on the character. And honestly I'd be fine with Simon Pegg doing the voice for Hughie. I thought he did a fine enough job in the short we got and honestly I feel a slightly older Hughie suits his character more especially considering how he starts acting by the end of the series. And I could be in the minority, but I'd be fine with a series that's dated. Better than a sliding timescale that has to be applicable to ever era therefore basic.

Kripke's rendition of The Boys is missing an edge that was ever present within Ennis' series. Sure, there's the ever present gore, but it just feels weak compared to the comic series.

What a coincidence that I just started watching the show like 30 minutes ago. I've heard many things about it from many anons, good and bad. So far I'm liking it but the tone is not exactly the same, which is understandable, but still. Butcher reminds me more of the bat guy from TWD than the actual butcher.

However, I'm gonna need you to give it to me straight: are terror and stillwell (the guy, not the blond lady) in the show? Hawaiian butcher just showed up without the damn dog, and I'm worried.

I think terror is still there just not as relevant and Stilwell will appear much later on anyway (unless that black guy is supposed to him?)

pretty sure gustavo fring is supposed to be the emotionless character who bosses the seven after they fricked up by first making stillwell a completely different character

He's a better character than TV Butcher by miles, and I love Karl Urban. He's a good Ennis character in a bad Ennis comic, while the TV version is more like a mediocre Ellis/Millar character.
