In retrospect, it was kinda lame. Especially considering what those guys turned into as time went on.

      lol yeah
those same idiots who were preaching about how much they loved evolution and science are now championing trannies and saying that men can become women and sex doesn't depend chromosomes.
really shows that science was just a cudgel for them and their priorities really were always "FRICK YOU MOM AND DAD"

Half of them. The other half went on to be Breadtubers or leftist twitch streamers

I wasted my teenage year watching them. Not a single one became a breadtuber or leftist twitch streamer.

I feel like being or just saying that you're atheist nowadays is both kind of cringe and gay. like for some reason I guess it just stopped being "cool" after the amazing atheist shoved a banana up his ass. not that I cared about that or it being the reason I stopped being an atheist, but around that time I was already cured of my 7 year long fear of constant thoughts tempting me to sell my soul to the devil.

I do, but you're right. Fewer and fewer people in america care about religion by the day

You're moronic if you don't think religious extremism isn't still a huge issue

What he said is right though, extremism will probably always be an issue no matter what ideology is in or out fashion these days

Had a crisis of faith growing in that period
My conclusion was that I'd lose more if I gave up my faith rather than gain so I simply kept it

With all the gods floating around, it's safer to be an atheist. Then at least god won't send you to hell for worshiping a competitor after you die.

Calling it atheism isn't really accurate because in reality it was more akin to pitting one myth (fundagelical historically and scientifically illiterate McChristianity) against another myth (19th century materialistic historically and scientifically illiterate nihilism)

No one was actually weighing evidence or discussing metaphysics, it was an argument over cultural narratives, bolstered by a handful of painfully uninformed ideologues who pumped out a plethora of books in a very short period of time which were pithy, quotable, easily-digestible, and thoroughly ignorant about the matters that they attempted to discuss and refute

"New Atheism" wore off because it was a fad, devoid of substance and as such devoid of staying power, just like today's reactionary disingenuous tradLARPing will in a few years - the people whose convictions are carried without resistance by the current of popular opinion will continue to vacillate between positions despite their lack of sincerity or comprehension, and real theists and real atheists will still be in exactly the same place that they've always been

I remember hearing all the time from them that Atheists were the last group it was acceptable to hate. I live in the UK where no one gives a shit about atheism so it sounds absurd to me, but I've also seen some cases of Atheists getting a lot of shit in America.
First that comes to mind was GrapplingIgnorance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ozn1e7MvuM.
I remember a news bit about an Atheist family that basically got ran out of town as well.

It was mostly fedoralords picking apart the absolute bottom of the barrel Bush-era evangelicals ,and uppity women for good measure, for like four or five years
In a way it kinda feels like a precursor to the "owning with facts and logic" style of debating that kicked off in the mid 2010's
