As someone who went to elementary and middle school during UAF's run it was very popular, it was your favorite super hero but more mature why do Cinemaphilegays think that wouldn't be popular with the target demo that was aging out of the OS's tone?

It makes me so mad that we went from having top notch figures of the hero and a few supporting characters/villains into having different paint jobs and figures basically being nonexistent on the shelves. When OV rolled around, many of the figures were near impossible to find.
Well to be fair some of this started to show around AF s3, but those aliens were moved to the UA toyline for simplicty's sake. During UA's first season toys of ult agreggor and kevin were made, its only afterwards where they stopped doing it. And UA's first half sold excellently merch wise But then they just did recolros for some reason.

I had the opposite problem, i saw a toystore near my house that still had fully stocked unsold OV toys by 2016. Mostly eatle and bloxx. The OV toys being much smaller probably didnt help.
Considering OS is almost 20 years old I think a figure line aimed at older fans could work, kinda like MOTU classics or something. Larger scale and more accurate to the shows.
OV came out too early to ride the OS nostalgia wave and the art style initially turned off a lot of people.

Not really in either the 2016 or the current landscape. It'd be seen as more of a return to the action toons of old. It is quite literally TFA but for ben 10. But that had nostalgia to help it.
Also honestly the art style outside of some bad desings could look really good and allowed for great animation.
While AF/UA did bring neat ideas and concepts, the Forever Knights being a bulwark against Aliens is a neat idea. However, certain retcons and new ideas were sometimes too much like Gwen only being able to use magic due to alien heritage.
It tried to be DCAU lite, but they really should have expanded more on the Original. In addition, the new aliens were always composite of one another, Swamp fire is just Heat Blast + Wild Vine. Should have given Ben newer aliens instead of composites
Eh some of the retcons were certainly much, but the idea of trying to center the franchise around what was clearly its main appeal isnt all that new.
OS outside of the visuals could be a bit bland with its storytelling so trying to take more cues from the DCAU wasnt a bad idea at all. And the new aliens being like that was due to the the whole "new 10" setup, the earlier concepts made them all grotesque monsters but they were shot down by CN and went with arcehtypical mixes instead. Not necessarily of the aliens but of the powersets they represented. And there were more unique aliens like spidermonkey or goop.
NTA, but OS was more of a fun episodic road trip. While I admire UAF for what it tried to do and I still think they're enjoyable, sometimes it still fricked up.

To be fair the show wasn't meant to be binge watched all at once, even though you could probably finish the whole thing in a day and a half. A new episode came out like every week so it would still feel fresh as a kid. I know it did for me. The status quo reset kind of sucked in retrospect but that's just the kind of show it was. You could excuse Ben not learning much from one episode to the next as him being a shithead 10 year old.
UAF having more serialized storytelling was a good thing.

Nah i get it, but it does make watching all of OS at once feel like there's no consitency. Especially when they do keep continuity with aliens or some storyarcs like the anur lightning stuff. And when pivotal episodes also repeat lessons that had already been learnt, or that ben didnt really need. Ben 10.000 is one of my favorite episodes because its lesson can be learnt permanently by future Ben.

I had a really autistic idea that they could reboot the show as one series, from starting from Ben as a kid like in OS into him being a teenager (like in UAF and OV) and ending with Ben 10,000. Take what worked about each and do it as one long story without any of the dumb plot choices and retcons that they all have. Oh, and they artstyle would be the same so it feels consistent.

I don't remember Generator Rex very well but I've always wondered, shouldn't Ben be infected by the nanomachine AIDS during his stay at Red's dimension?
Holiday mentions that he (Ben) has absorbed nanites, but due to how limited his exposure to them is, trying to pull EVO shenanigans on him would go about as successfully as trying to mutate White Knight.
Besides they probably all got destroyed when he went through the portal home. And if he did have some side effects the omnitrix would deal with it, he’d probably get an EVO transformation or a one similar to nanomech
Actually, now that I think about it, the nanites were probably destroyed or removed when Ben went Upgrade and merged with Rex. Since Upgrade kinda already is a nano-machine based organism (albeit made with space frog tech rather than magic beaner tech), it’s feasible to say that any foreign nanites within the system would either be assimilated or rejected. If that isn’t the case, then it’s equally likely that when he merged with Rex’s system he probably off-loaded any absorbed nanites he had back into our favourite cyber mexican when they de-merged.
Most likely the Omnitrix would have detected and purged them out of his body. It generally will do what it can to protect Ben even when it's not in active use.
I don't like how he became a more generic "wise old man" character after secret of the omnitrix where he sounded like a comedian and did not give a frick.
Yeah honestly a galven would work better as a main antagonist than whatever the frick omniverse hell maybe have a conflict against azmath as the final/penultimate plot point

Yes but I'm too lazy to learn how to draw so here's a shitty concept I made in MSPaint for Shellhead, an unseen alien that was mentioned in Ken 1o, the limbs are undetailed because I got lazy towards the end.
Shellhead's an all in defense alien, his shell's more like a bulletproof vest to differentiate him from Terraspin, and once he's in his shell there's nothing that can get him out of it. Still, I gave him the horn and the plate on his head to give him something offensive, he gives a wicked headbutt.
Where's all the love for braincrab? I feel like this guy got properly used once in the entire franchise and that was the vengers fight. Every other appearance of braincrab feels so minor, like he's never truly the star of the scene.

Being outclassed isn't the problem, there are plenty of great scenes with ben using weaker aliens, and ben didn't get another electric alien in uaf until amphibian so he still had a niche of his own but the writers just never used him.
You know if they started off with him being very analytical it would be a good difference between him and Greymatter. One is all logic and analytics the other is more out of the box and more contemplative

Ultimate Echo Echo being so nice almost proves my point completely with how regular Echo Echo is probably the worst offender when it come to being two OS alien put together but not as good as either one, Ult Echo was such a biblical step up He should've been the default from the start or at the very least some kind of Blooming swampfire deal where in regular Echo Echo permanently changes into something more ult Echo like.
The fact that such a good alien is stuck forever in a one off gimmick like the Ultimatrix only proves how poorly suited it was for Ben to use it himself.
I suppose, i agree he's great, but him being an ultimate does add something to the idea. Makes him more of a last resort type alien. Still in retrospect he should have been normal echo echo.
Aside, Alien Force was produced around the same time as season 4 so the ditto/echo echo thing was probably a coincidence. And tbh the anur aliens kinda occopied a similar place with the power melding.

I think Ultimate Echo Echo as his own alien outside of the Ultimatrix would be something like Upchuck or Cannonbolt in that he'd be one of those alien that are on the low down pushing over his weight class a lot more then people notice.
Still ditto did the Multiman gimmick far better in my mind if only for his voice, and you had all five seasons of UAF to make Echo his own thing like Slapback is another Multiman alien but he does thing very different from Ditto I can totally see Ben saying how Ditto would be better sometimes but Slap back would be the choice to make other times.

Especially since the dittos are super flexible while the echos go down in one hit. Its a good balance.
Another thing about them being an Albedo only ability is that it’s like a way of showing the difference between him and Ben as fighters. Albedo needs a boost like the Ultimate function but Ben doesn’t need any extra gimmicks, just his natural skill with the Omnitrix

Af season 1-2 is fine, he can be a bit bland at times but he is good at selling the idea of a more mature ben and it gives him a good dynamic with a lot of other characters.
AF season 3 is the worst.
UA is probably better since there's a bigger balance between AF season 3 and 1-2, being able to drop the arrogant act (and it being an act) when the situation calls for it.
OV is a more toned down AF s3 ben that is going trough the same thing UA ben is, with his arrogance being played up more for laughs and only ever being allowed to be experienced when with another ben. Especially since his arrogance with the omnitrix being crap is usually a tool to give rook something to do.
Reboot is just lol random most of the time.
The ben 10.000s are generally cool. The first is a good "bad future" for ben that mellows out later, the second has a more fitting personality and the third is just the second personality wise (but sounding wayy too old).

The learning the same shit part is because it's mostly episodic. It would have been better off if the show was designed to be serialized from the start, but it wasn't.

Well to be fair some of this started to show around AF s3, but those aliens were moved to the UA toyline for simplicty's sake. During UA's first season toys of ult agreggor and kevin were made, its only afterwards where they stopped doing it. And UA's first half sold excellently merch wise But then they just did recolros for some reason.

I had the opposite problem, i saw a toystore near my house that still had fully stocked unsold OV toys by 2016. Mostly eatle and bloxx. The OV toys being much smaller probably didnt help.
Considering OS is almost 20 years old I think a figure line aimed at older fans could work, kinda like MOTU classics or something. Larger scale and more accurate to the shows.
OV came out too early to ride the OS nostalgia wave and the art style initially turned off a lot of people.

While AF/UA did bring neat ideas and concepts, the Forever Knights being a bulwark against Aliens is a neat idea. However, certain retcons and new ideas were sometimes too much like Gwen only being able to use magic due to alien heritage.
It tried to be DCAU lite, but they really should have expanded more on the Original. In addition, the new aliens were always composite of one another, Swamp fire is just Heat Blast + Wild Vine. Should have given Ben newer aliens instead of composites
Eh some of the retcons were certainly much, but the idea of trying to center the franchise around what was clearly its main appeal isnt all that new.
OS outside of the visuals could be a bit bland with its storytelling so trying to take more cues from the DCAU wasnt a bad idea at all. And the new aliens being like that was due to the the whole "new 10" setup, the earlier concepts made them all grotesque monsters but they were shot down by CN and went with arcehtypical mixes instead. Not necessarily of the aliens but of the powersets they represented. And there were more unique aliens like spidermonkey or goop.

To be fair the show wasn't meant to be binge watched all at once, even though you could probably finish the whole thing in a day and a half. A new episode came out like every week so it would still feel fresh as a kid. I know it did for me. The status quo reset kind of sucked in retrospect but that's just the kind of show it was. You could excuse Ben not learning much from one episode to the next as him being a shithead 10 year old.

Besides they probably all got destroyed when he went through the portal home. And if he did have some side effects the omnitrix would deal with it, he’d probably get an EVO transformation or a one similar to nanomech
Actually, now that I think about it, the nanites were probably destroyed or removed when Ben went Upgrade and merged with Rex. Since Upgrade kinda already is a nano-machine based organism (albeit made with space frog tech rather than magic beaner tech), it’s feasible to say that any foreign nanites within the system would either be assimilated or rejected. If that isn’t the case, then it’s equally likely that when he merged with Rex’s system he probably off-loaded any absorbed nanites he had back into our favourite cyber mexican when they de-merged.
Most likely the Omnitrix would have detected and purged them out of his body. It generally will do what it can to protect Ben even when it's not in active use.

Agreggor arc was a true letdown
The weirdest part was when Kevin’s stepdad showed up and we had to pretend he was an actual character we cared about. Why they just didn’t use his mom in that scene I’ll never know

Yes but I'm too lazy to learn how to draw so here's a shitty concept I made in MSPaint for Shellhead, an unseen alien that was mentioned in Ken 1o, the limbs are undetailed because I got lazy towards the end.
Shellhead's an all in defense alien, his shell's more like a bulletproof vest to differentiate him from Terraspin, and once he's in his shell there's nothing that can get him out of it. Still, I gave him the horn and the plate on his head to give him something offensive, he gives a wicked headbutt.
I like him and good idea to not make him a turtle. Maybe make the head a bit bigger to emphasize his main attack being a headbutt

Where's all the love for braincrab? I feel like this guy got properly used once in the entire franchise and that was the vengers fight. Every other appearance of braincrab feels so minor, like he's never truly the star of the scene.

Because in terms of electric powers, he's outclassed by Feedback, Shocksquatch, Frankenstrike, and Buzzshock, and in terms of intelligence? Most writers don't really know how to write smart characters consistently without making it sound like "Oh, I just have to do *insert technobabble here*". The Vengers fight is the only time we really see a smart character written smartly, since everything you see gets set up and used in that fight (and of course the analysis of egos that pays off at the end)
Being outclassed isn't the problem, there are plenty of great scenes with ben using weaker aliens, and ben didn't get another electric alien in uaf until amphibian so he still had a niche of his own but the writers just never used him.
You know if they started off with him being very analytical it would be a good difference between him and Greymatter. One is all logic and analytics the other is more out of the box and more contemplative

Show is about Ben so Gwen and Kevin have to take a back seat to him. But I think given their skills and powerset a writer could easily make a believe way for the two of them to beat him.

I'm probably the only one here that liked the Dagon stuff. I love me some cosmic horror and I while I wish it would have been better it was nice enough. I wish those HP lovecraft villains would make a comeback in a Gwen focus show. Would be cool to see them take a crack at it again.

I wouldn't even say that, none the Ultimates were ever any good and even the better ones where only good in OV with Albedo.
Having the Ultimatrix be an Albedo exclusive lets the Ultimates be the evil looking horrorble monster aliens they where meant to be.
Ultimate Echo Echo was giga based, the albedo version was just too much wirh him.
Which given what Kevin does it fits.
Ultimate Echo Echo being so nice almost proves my point completely with how regular Echo Echo is probably the worst offender when it come to being two OS alien put together but not as good as either one, Ult Echo was such a biblical step up He should've been the default from the start or at the very least some kind of Blooming swampfire deal where in regular Echo Echo permanently changes into something more ult Echo like.
The fact that such a good alien is stuck forever in a one off gimmick like the Ultimatrix only proves how poorly suited it was for Ben to use it himself.
I suppose, i agree he's great, but him being an ultimate does add something to the idea. Makes him more of a last resort type alien. Still in retrospect he should have been normal echo echo.
Aside, Alien Force was produced around the same time as season 4 so the ditto/echo echo thing was probably a coincidence. And tbh the anur aliens kinda occopied a similar place with the power melding.
I think Ultimate Echo Echo as his own alien outside of the Ultimatrix would be something like Upchuck or Cannonbolt in that he'd be one of those alien that are on the low down pushing over his weight class a lot more then people notice.
Still ditto did the Multiman gimmick far better in my mind if only for his voice, and you had all five seasons of UAF to make Echo his own thing like Slapback is another Multiman alien but he does thing very different from Ditto I can totally see Ben saying how Ditto would be better sometimes but Slap back would be the choice to make other times.
Eh echo echo was certainly more useful than ditto was, ditto had a really neat design and voice but he was wayy too hampered by the limitation on his power. The clones fighting each other was already a good one.
Slapback's fine but has a far less intresting design than either.

Another thing about them being an Albedo only ability is that it’s like a way of showing the difference between him and Ben as fighters. Albedo needs a boost like the Ultimate function but Ben doesn’t need any extra gimmicks, just his natural skill with the Omnitrix

Even back in OS, Diamondhead had full on superhero proportions, whereas most other aliens were either pretty lean, absolutely shredded, or didn’t have a human bodyplan.
It’s also kinda impressive how consistent he sounds across the franchise, given that he’s been voiced by 5 seperate dudes across the series (Jim Ward for OS and DAA, Darren Norris for RAT, Dee Bradley Baker did UAF and the GenRex crossover, Eric Bauza did the OV voice, and Roger Craig Smith provides the reboot’s voice). Kinda accidentally reinforces the fact that he’s arguably the most reliable alien Ben has for a vast majority of situations

I’d say a little younger than Kevin who’s 12 in pic related (since in the flashbacks Ben and Gwen are 11 and Kevin’s always got a year on them) so maybe 11 or 10? But that’s just going off human years, so who knows how fast his species ages

It still baffles me they only ever did like 7 Ultimate forms in UA and several were almost nothing-tier. Like I can't help but feel they should have designed way more ultimate forms if solely so they can make more toys?

Eh only three of the 7 were lame design wise looking like recolors, the others all had a t least some drastic stuff. Really odd they didnt go for an even ten. But dsigning 5 whole andromeda aliens probably took a lot of time.
Still the coolest gimmick of the shows really.

Ultimate Rath is cool but Ultimate Arctiguana's underrated. Arctiguana in general is underrated, he's just sort of in omniverse doing things but he never gets much attention, overshadowed by Big Chill I suppose.
He's fine design wise.
Honestly big chill also has the advantage of being an alien for main ben rather than a future exclusive at firs.t
Aw man I love his big Blastoise cannons. I wish we got more of these new Ultimates, I would’ve liked to see what else makes them different from their regular counterparts

They were gonna have a whole storyline dedicated to them and the Knights but for some reason it never went through and I think some of it was transplanted to the Dagon arc

Sotoraggians were underrated in general. I always digged the extra limbs hidden in their bodies.
Wish we'd seen more of Gwen's friend Emily. She apparently her best friend and she went out with Ben.
I'm sure we could've gotten some funny interactions between them since Ben seems totally unrepentant about ditching her at the top of a phone tower.

Alien Force
Omniverse. His smarminess is backed up by years of experience. He's chill in the craziest situations, but still gets serious when he needs to.
OS Ben 10,000 was always cool to me.
OS is just obnoxious. He's great in s1 but afterwards he just keeps learning the same shit over and over and over and...
Af season 1-2 is fine, he can be a bit bland at times but he is good at selling the idea of a more mature ben and it gives him a good dynamic with a lot of other characters.
AF season 3 is the worst.
UA is probably better since there's a bigger balance between AF season 3 and 1-2, being able to drop the arrogant act (and it being an act) when the situation calls for it.
OV is a more toned down AF s3 ben that is going trough the same thing UA ben is, with his arrogance being played up more for laughs and only ever being allowed to be experienced when with another ben. Especially since his arrogance with the omnitrix being crap is usually a tool to give rook something to do.
Reboot is just lol random most of the time.
The ben 10.000s are generally cool. The first is a good "bad future" for ben that mellows out later, the second has a more fitting personality and the third is just the second personality wise (but sounding wayy too old).

Been going through the whole series starting with OS. I have noticed a slight change in his personality after S1 where he's gotten way more wienery and arrogant with the watch. The learning the same shit part is because it's mostly episodic. It would have been better off if the show was designed to be serialized from the start, but it wasn't.
I still think OS Ben never really becomes AF S3-tier unlikeable.

And honestly ben has his AF s3 tier moments. Especially as the show goes on. And it really hampers down moments that should be great because we're still doing the exact same type of conflict 4 seasons in.
Rook's good honestly. I feel they lean a bit too much into the 03 Starfire bit sometimes and someitmes it feels like ben has to take a hike intelligence wise to make him useful, but he's generally good.
Ill give af season 3 ben credit for one thing, at least they didnt bring back the bickering with gwen bit, that got old by season 1.
It still makes him a less appealing main character, especially because the first season was good at not repeating the same lesson and showing growth for ben, only for season 2 onwards to make that the luck of a draw.
Sometimes ben will be tired of being a hero in s2 and be happy that gwen can chip in, other times he'd say he's the only super hero and want to join to galactic enforcers only to realize that he has help, only to forget about that in the s3 finale (which is entirely based around continuity).
And honestly the episodic thing only gets you so far when ben 10 constantly brings back characters referencing previous events as well as the aliens inferring a specific order.
Opinions on Rook? I thought he was cool when first introduced but as OV continued he was just boring most of the time
