Let me get this straight: Did tokugawa kill those innocent villagers in the last episode just to troll Blackthorne epic style? He said he himself burnt down Aijin's ship and there were no traitors in that village

I think he was using it as an means to see who was loyal to him.

To keep up appearances. He couldn't say it was done by spies and then do nothing about it.

Thats probably the most logical reason behind it. He did the dirty deed in secrecy and now he has to do a "clean up", in order to look like he took action about these imaginary traitors.
Aijin was right about the human value in japan

      Anonymous

"Life is cheap and death is sudden in Sengoku Japan" is a pretty constant theme in the show. Remember that Anjin's gardener got executed by the rest of his servants by being the one to move the pheasant because Anjin accidentally made it punishable by death to move the pheasant. Which is also part of another theme, "you can chose to die in a way which maximizes your usefulness to society and people around you."

        Anonymous

yeah I remember that. However I didnt fully understand why Aijin hanged that pheasant and left it there to rot. Can you tell me why he did it?

          British cuisine, I guess.

Theres a method of preparing pheasant by leaving it to sit and drain in the sun for several days. Unfortunately anjin cant learn Japanese and fricked everything cause Japanese are literal superstitious peasants.

Aging game meat is a real thing. I’m reality, you’d take it down before it started to rot, and since it was winter outside it should have lasted much longer

Throughout the show Toranaga sacrifices and manipulates his most loyal friends to die for him to achieve his goals. Do you think he cares about 5 random peasants?

        Anonymous

Even his own son. I remember the final episode, the lady mentions how they're still mourning Nagakado and he's just like "thankfully, I have more sons thanks to you. He was literally counting on his son being a reckless little shit and dying so he could get more time to get his keikaku going.

if he did nothing about the burned ship he would appear soft, and people might suspect he did it himself

Toranaga is the type to do that. Maybe like Uejiro they were dying anyways and volunteered to pretend to be executed, it's not like John would have known.

This show made me really want another Rome show just with Arminius or a germanic style fish out of water who eventually turns on them. There's something so kino about being basically forced for your life to accept a foreign culture and either embracing it or completely going against it.

Which is saying very little because Shogun is shit. It's truly impressive how James Clavell managed to take a captivating premise and a very interesting period in history and make an inhumanly boring story out of it. The book is a promising two hundred pages followed by seven hundred of watching paint dry. The series is better, if only because looking at the pretty moving pictures might distract you from how dull the whole thing is.

Toranaga is a selfish b***h, he absolutely didn't grant his death wish by Anjin or by cannon because he wanted a private moment with him just to gush about his plans

        Anonymous

That was probably part of it, especially in regards to the cannons, but a lot of it was minimizing the damage Yabu could do by not keeping him on a leash. Especially if Anjin was the one who was allowed to second him, Yabu could try to spin any number of last minute tales or deals to try to get out of his death.

Why can’t they make a 2nd season of the show? The “ending” felt so rushed, where they do the whole “flash forward” to show you how things will end in the future. It felt like GoT where they just hyper rush 4 seasons of content in a 5 minute dialogue.

Torahomie is just an butthole. Fricking tormenting his subordinates in the worst form of workplace trolling and his Crimson Sky plays out as just a gigantic prank.
    >Kept Anjin because he thinks he's funny
    >Also kept him to troll his Muh High Nobility subordinates by making them uncomfortable also insulting them by making him hatamoto
    >Cucking Buntaro relentlessly by making his wife the Anjin's official subtitles (with full knowledge that she fricks the barbarian)
    > Trolled his army by making it seem that he has given up
›Knows that Anjin and his barbarian Black person brain will think that he has given up and make him say something pessimistic
    >Said Anjin pessimism made his son and heir die in a moronic manner

    >Denies Yabushige's request for a gruesome and fun death
    ›Not even death by Barbarian

    > Yabushige dies with a smile knowing he'll be dying by the greatest prank ever pulled off in the Japans

This show was the best television produced in 20 years. Not a single instance of homosexualry or a black person being shoehorned in for diversity at the sake of historical accuracy.

You can’t point out any other television show in years that hasn’t had the above.
