Best Horror Movie Ever Made.

To this day there is no solid answer on what happened in this movie. The marketing was fricking excellent. Any idiot that takes this movie at face value, and sees it as nothing more than a snoozefest like I did at first, I feel sorry for them, and I hope they look deeper into this movie. Every other horror movie tries way too hard to be paranormal, over the top scary, bloody, wrathful, ghost is scary etc. The Blair Witch Project did what it was supposed to do, and did it perfectly, regardless if you think so or not. No other movie has ever had this effect on me. I can admire a good slasher/monster/paranormal/psychological horror, but The Blair Witch is a testament, a truly unique entry into this genre that just can't be replicated. After watching this movie and reading all the theories and seeing the website still alive after all these years, I don't think I can look at another horror movie the same again.

I agree with your sentiment OP. Blair witch was a great horror flick, unique of its own.
Did you enjoy the paranormal activity kinos?

I recall seeing the first 2 films, but it's been forever. The first, as always was incredible, haunted me for quite a few years. The second was great, but at 3 and so on, it seemed as though they were memeing it at that point. I'm going to have to watch them all again at night.

I'll have to give that a watch, thanks for the suggestion. I don't think I've actually seen any big alien movies yet, I still have to watch war of the worlds.

If you want another great pre-Blair Witch found footage movie watch Ghostwatch.

I'll also rec The Tunnel (2011) if you want a later found footage movie to check out.

Well I denounce them, I've seen some fricked up shit (been on Cinemaphile for over 10 years) and watched many horror and snuff inspired films from August underground to Cannibal Holocaust aftermath etc. The ring and all the mainstream horror flicks. None of which have stuck with me like this movie. Regardless, I've never been proven so wrong by a movie as Blair witch, every other horror movie basically speaks for itself while the blair witch legend lives on in mystery.

Check out The Signal 2007. It’s not found footage but it’s one of those movies that stick with you for a while after you watch it.

Eh, it's a good movie and I've always liked it, but you're overhyping it.

no. and I saw it in the theater. it did cause a scare at the time because people thought they were actually missing.

I'm talking about just a few years later, it was considered gimmicky and the lack of payoff at the end was considered hacky.

          >I'm talking about just a few years later, it was considered gimmicky and the lack of payoff at the end was considered hacky. I can't really recall to be honest, but i'm sure it caused a LOT of industry uproar. didn't it rake in a crap load of cash for a crap load of profit? I'm sure that cause a lot of jealousy and "I wich I thought of this" type of thing.

I have to disagree, I'd like to try to categorize it as gimmicky. But the explanations and what we are given, the subtle hints, the witchcraft symbols and stones and them walking in circles or never being able to escape the forest, it's not just 1 gimmick. I think they managed to fit almost every gimmick without making it seems so obvious, just makes it seem like the movie was an intended or unintended masterpiece. More mystery thar could most likely only be answered by either the 3 cast members or director themselves.

I can't really remember where I read it but I think they basically just hacked together hours of footage and decided to never who the witch. it seems like it was pure luck that it took off like it did. right place-right time sort of thing. created a buzz and boom..
              >can't get out of the woods
              >why not just light them on fire?
              😀

Now you're trying to make a new film, to say what would happen if they attempted to burn down that forest would be no easy explanation. Weather it be motivated by 1 of the 3 cast, wether the witch would realize this, or the culture, or the town, or the spirits of the children and Parr, there's too many things to consider.

But what you don't realize is we see the witch (or Maybe not) multiple times throughout the movie, hell they are possessed depending on who you ask, and if they are possessed, the witch I don't would want to show herself.

Pause at the moment we see Mike in the corner.

It's interesting that both directors went on to make 4 films, but barely made any waves (for good reason). I have a soft spot for each of their found footage films though - Exists (bigfoot kino) and Skyman (chill alien kino).

                >Skyman (2019)

Had to screenshot that, I'll take a glance at these films as well. However for the time being I gotta get off, eat, if I don't come back for a while it's because I have a shit ton of films to watch now, including creature of the black lagoon, Dracula and frankenstein. Gotta show some love for the classics, hopefully this thread doesn't get 404d too soon. Have a pleasant watch everybody, and thank you for the suggestions.

Yep I agree, it's the GOAT for me.
What's weird is that even though it set the template (more than McPherson Tape/Ghostwatch etc.), nobody has even come close to that level of creepiness since. Paranormal Activity gave it a decent shot.
Really was lightning in a bottle because clearly it's not like it had a bigger budget.

The V/H/S series captures the essence of the found footage theme pretty well. Each segment is done by a different director.

Tried to see this in the theaters with my cousin when I was 16 and he was 19. The usher wouldn't sell us tickets because I was 16. He said shit like "you guys don't understand this isn't a regular movie. people have freaked out and almost died watching it". Do the literal South Park gag and say ok, buy other movie ticket, go into Blair Witch. WTF was that shit? We looked for that guy for like half an hour after the movie just to call him a gay but he must have left. Goddamn that guy sucks. Later when it came out on VHS I beat off to a paused screen of the girls fat ass. No regerts.
