I don't disagree, but The Marvels is a genuinely atrocious movie, if you can even call it that. Morbius was terrible as well, but it was still a coherent movie, with a beginning, a middle part and an end that all connected. The Marvels is a collection of clips that might as well be from different movies. AI could've made a better movie.

Ironically the expected amount of male audiences that was forecasted showed up, but it was the lack of female viewers that killed this film.
Marvel hedged their bets on that 1 minute K-pop boy dance scene to attract the teen girl crowd, didn’t they?

No romantic drama (like Wonder Woman), no shirtless male love interest, no shocking betrayal (drama for the sake of drama), weak villain no comic fan knows, no other big Marvel guest stars, and such really killed this film.

      Anonymous

Women in general don't really like superhero movies and this one basically had no of the elements like a romantic subplot or an attractive male lead that might have drawn them em. It's basically a film without a suitable target audience and as a result unsurprisingly, not a lot of people showed up to watch it.

        Anonymous

        True.
In real life there aren’t a lot of superheroine fangirls like Kamala is, so right off the bat she’s not a self insert for teen girls. It seems that movie was counting on that and the fact that she’s a Muslim hero.
Both of which aren’t noteworthy these days like it wasn’t 2014 when the comic debuted.

        Anonymous

        >It's basically a film without a suitable target audience
Because when women write "comicbook superheros" they think of it as entertainment for children and then cut it off there. When, in fricking history, has anyone ever had a mom who knows whats cool to young boys? Boys read comics, grow up and become men who return to the industry and continue to pump out product. They know what boys like because they're the fricking demographic for the genre to begin with. Women are never going to be on the same timing because women don't sit up and fantasize about performing selfless acts or national defense or acts of valor. All of that risk-taking shit and teamwork-building is prime fuel for testosterone. Women equate superhero content to shit that small children would like and they never fricking expound upon it. Because
        >Oh, well, this has elements I liked when >I< was a kid...
Yeah, meandering bullshit plots where the conflict is over because the girls talk everything out and reach a consensus or "whoa, she wasn't bad she was WRONGED BY MEN. Please clap." Women writers aren't encouraged to tap into what men would want to see--if they even fricking know how.

All that to say you have this slop of a film that could only ever be given to incredibly children because it isn't palatable to adults. And it definitely isn't palatable to men. No one likes looking at frumpy women roleplay as "strong" and have to be taken "seriously" by the threats presented on screen. If the chick was hot and vulnerable and appreciative and supportive and showed alot of skin then she would stay in the hearts and minds of the men watching it. Easy. Instead they covered every women head-to-tie in some shitty electrician uniform that hides their curves and breasts which makes them visually anemic and dis-interesting and then the women save themselves and actively flee from potential romantic pursuits.

        Anonymous

Women always b***h about how things are focused towards men but the only reason that happens is cause men show up and spend money, women just sit at home and b***h that no one caters to them while ignoring everything that does

          Anonymous

          A bit off-topic here.
But it's kind of funny this is the complete opposite for kpop audiences. Women spend a lot of money on albums and get catered to while the coomer males(me) don't spend a dime and just get what they can.

      >weak villain no comic fan knows
Weird thing is, the villain in the flashback (Kree Supreme Intelligence) is 10x more interesting than whatever they could have cooked up, and they relegated it to a flashback.

If you want a good story about choices way before Civil War, read "Operation Galactic Storm". tl;dr the Kree Supreme Intelligence causes a genocide and the Avengers have to decide if they're gonna kill it or not.

Anything less than a billion would have been seen as a failure and would have made the Fox buyout more expensive while the stockholders were nervous because at the time Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and, at the time, Chris Hemsworth were leaving the MCU, so they were hyping Captain Marvel as "THE NEW FACE OF THE MCU WHO WILL CARRY THIS FRANCHISE FOR THE NEXT TEN YEARS" but now know what a horribly unlikeable c**t Larson is so they had to put her with two diversity co-stars because the fricking b***h can't carry a movie on her own while using them to shield the movie from criticism by claiming that if you don't like it it's because you're not only sexist but also now racist which is exactly what has happened as The Marvels is now officially a massive flop!!!FACT!!!

Her solo movie was padded by Disney buying tickets to empty theaters. They had excess money to throw at such a venture because this shit was sandwiched between two must-see movies of the entire franchise. And even then people were shitting on the movie and talking about how fricking terrible it was. Word of mouth hit the internet and people fast. Disney just didn't want to look stupid in the face of Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman only succeeded because it aped the formula from the first Captain America movie, was carried by Chris Pine for the ladies and then naturally the largest consumers and core demographic of comicbooks are men so of-fricking-course they went to see if it would be good. Gal Gadot had a string of positive buzz and press meanwhile Brie Larson was shitting on men and talking out of her ass instead of just smiling and shutting the frick up. This only strengthened Gadot's position.

She is despised (the character, not Daisy) to a much higher degree than Captain Marvel. The Rey movie will be the biggest flop of all time. It will make less than half of Solo. And it will kill Star Wars as a theatrical brand forever

Barbie proves that people will turn up for a woke movie, it all depends on optics and how you frame it.

People didn’t go to Barbie because it was “Woke.” They went because Barbie is a multigenerational cultural icon and everyone was talking about it.

They literally kept the wokeshit out of the marketing for Barbie before it dropped. Of course everyone with an IQ higher than mustard knew it was going to be insanely pozzed, but they still kept it out of the marketing because they know wokeshit is unpopular. They did the same thing with the Mario movie.

Women went to see Barbie because it has things women actually want to see. A pretty lead character who wears a bunch of different cute costumes through out the movie. An attractive male lead who plays along with all their dumb interests (dresss up, acts aloof, does muscial numbers etc). Women don’t give a frick if a movie is woke or not, they’re as simple to appeal to as men are if you just follow the blueprint of interests that they’ve had for decades.

Yeah, but they would have to change the profile of the actors, no more Oscar-winning actors but actors who like to have fun, to get dirty on stage, to have a sprained ankle in a fight scene, to be in shape all year, after all the genre asks for it and of course to be faithful to the source, those who follow women opinion makers and a hundred youtubers know how much they like that sexy figure of the old Ms Marvel, the funny thing is that Disney had its Wonder Woman and threw her in the trash and brought this dyke military version that the world hated

Easily one of my favorite of the "solo" movies in the MCU. Stays true to the character of Captain Marvel. Iman is consistently joyous and endearing, carrying on from her performance in Ms. Marvel. Full of genuinely funny moments and ridiculous set pieces. They leverage The entanglement concept for some really excellent fight scenes. To the benefit of the filmmakers, the power sets of these characters pop really well with bright and shiny CGI. The pacing is fun and snappy and the three leads are all equally fun to watch and have good chemistry. It's also nice to see Nick Fury get some screen time in a role where he is having more fun and a lot less dour than Secret Invasion. Also, the after credit scenes are really fun and give some nice insight into the next steps of the MCU. I like that they reserved the universe-building attempts for these scenes rather than using the entire movie as I set up for a different movie.

It wasn't the costume that killed her career. It was that just before The Predator was released she found out that Shane Black had a friend called Steven Wilder Striegel working on the film that was a convicted sex offender.

Rather than quietly going to studio executives and telling them about this so that he could have been removed, she went public a week or so before the premiere in order to get attention that she was the only one brave enough to come out about this, despite sitting on the info for several months, damaging the film with negative publicity and fricking over most of the cast and crew didn't know anything about it.

The fricking source material is poison. No man on the planet wanted Carol in that outfit. She's been written out of character that few people can really remember how she's supposed to act. No one is on board with her as Captain Marvel. She actively makes the title less cool. Of course the 1:1 translation of that was going to suck a dick at the box office. No man wants to read about a woman who doesn't want to be romanced, who isn't likable and definitely is never portrayed as hot or scantily clad. The stupid b***h who wrote it and indeed ALL women who write can't get their own heads out of their asses when it comes to this shit. When men write women characters they are actively writing women with characteristics and personalities that *they* want to see presented to them. They're basically writing imaginary girlfriends, dude. This isn't a hard concept. Captain Marvel is just the author of the book being a toxic poisonous twat but the draw is that she has the avatar of having high sexual market value. It's literally her self-insert. If she could be written as being romantically linked to all the hottest and most popular men in the Marvel U then she would. Because that's all women care about. There is no fricking cause to Carol's story. She is a "hero" with nothing to fight for or avenge beyond whatever generic big bad that warrants the existence of the story to begin with.

And what's worse, and most laughable, is how Captain Marvel is another stroke of women not understanding power and thus being completely incapable of wielding it. They go
    >Oh, we need a strong superhero. Men like strong characters. If she isn't strong then no one is going to like her.
So then they have Carol doing something outlandish like fixing a fricking sun in The Marvels. And when you point out how the power scaling is fricking moronic they go
    >b-but it's all fantasy and Silver Age Superman did it and--
They don't understand it, they don't respect it. Why should I care anymore?

Honestly their best bet is to take a decade long break from live action stuff, maybe expand on the Big Hero 6 marvel universe and have animated films with characters that haven’t been milked to death. Or do what DC did for a decade, make bank off of cartoon animation movies that don’t feel like recycled products for kids.
