The issue for me is just that Mike wasn't like this at all back in the earlier comics. Yeah I get he has been through some stuff, yeah people may change, but it's annoying to see either way. A bothersome development, IMO.
the absolute charm of BCB is seeing Taeshi and Suitcase's relationships bleed through the comic and the evolution of not only the art but also how the star couple comes to understand themselves and the world around them.
Keep in mind that Taeshi had a very traumatic childhood. She's been on the net since the wild west days of the 2000's web where you could find animal abuse sites on the front page of google and safesearch wasn't an option. Its honestly amazing how sane she's kept herself over the years.
Even if you don't have the patience to read the comic her diary comics and her old deviantart posts are interesting to read. lil' snapshots of this artist going back to her earliest days.
I still think carry-on cuck is a dipshit but he objectively has a heart of gold for tardwrangling her. honestly in that kind of relationship you're tardwrangling each other at times.

Part of me does sympathize with her. I understand she had some problems in the past, and I can relate to some of the stuff she posted on her old diary comic thing, but that doesn't change the fact that the story is frustrating to read.
The main issues with the comic for me nowadays are:
1) it spins and spins and doesn't get anywhere, even after years;
2) it takes so goddam long to update now. This sort of correlates with 1;
3) The character's personalities have been slowly warping to different and usually worse versions of themselves;
4) The old, more familiar side characters have been thrown way to the side. I'm talking about Sue, Abbey, Amaya, etc. McCain was pretty cool too, shame he got scrapped;
5) It has foolish, nonsensical drama that occurs for no reason. I'm telling you, most men, and specially most young men would not be willing to keep the same relationship Mike has with Sandy, let alone accept being cucked by her, and specially not if he has someone he is interested in already lined up (Lucy).
All in all, comic is not usually a pleasant read nowadays, but I read it anyway out of habit.

One of my most traumatic memories is just getting the absolute shit beat out of my arm during a reading class in middle school. in a room full of people. and nobody said jack or shit. or intervened. It was like a weird version of the murder of Kitty Genovese now that I think about it. i was too scared to ask for help because autism and fear of authority figures. I had a running joke with the teacher where I'd just ask for a dollar at random. Its weird how memory works.

I kinda do it too with a different property I started hating years ago, albeit through porn, but how I see it is anything positive is doing a better job than the hack creator, anything negative is degrading characters I don't like anyways.
The strongest and only remaining appeal to these characters is knowing you could do better with them.

Yeah, Mike's not asexual. He's just inconsistent, aka the author doesn't want to sully her idealized "nice boy" character with implications that he wacks off and stuff. Alternatively he could be genuinely depressed and fricked up in the head but expect that to be highly idealized too. Anyway, buried in there is this "ethos" that Mike would be very sexual with the correct person. I think that coincides with what they call demisexuality, come to think of it.

Conceptually there's a big difference between a low libido and a super strict laser-guided one. Whether the second one is a real thing is a matter for debate but again, it's an idealization.

Unironicaly we need more Lucy, not seeing her perspective makes me quite unsympathetic to her.
But if we do see her perspective it makes her less sympathetic since it just turns out she's just a self-absorbed hypocrite.
Reading a 480 page fic from Lucy's perspective has made me sympathetic to her and I now look forward to more canon Lucy appearance.

she's just a very emotionally mixed up young girl and just needs some actual friendships to help her smooth herself out.
She clearly has fixations on violence and some impulse control problems with some awareness of how she comes off to others. But at her heart she's a good person, if a little savage and misguided at this point in the comic.

Anyways you just know that if Mary doesn't get smoothed out and form connections now she's going to have a really hard time in the future. She'll likely be ostracized because the other school kids see her as weird, and she won't have the outlet of violence because she won't be an elementary schooler anymore. And if that continues into highschool that'll lead to some maladaptive and even psychotic tendencies.
If her friends can get her into sports or she learns how to healthily channel her violent tendencies into her art instead of allowing impulse to take over and aggress others she’s gonna turn out fine. Clearly she has a sense of justice, if again, a little misguided. she’s probably been exposed to emotional abuse in the home and probably has seen and felt things that are hard for her to express verbally. single mother households can be hell as her mother has to be breadwinner and therapist to herself and her child. This can lead to all sorts of issues- but this comic is still in its early stages so we have no idea whats going on with her home life.
I think mary is beholden to violent impulses that she knows are inappropriate, but nothing points to her wanting to truly be violent towards others in a blind rage kinda way. she’s just a kid in an emotionally tenuous situation. that shit will hurt even the coldest of people, deep down. i can sympathize with her. she knows she’s a weird psychotic but desperately doesn’t want to be that way. she clearly just want friends that aren’t scared of her.
if she can be reached and coached properly, she’ll turn out fine.

Mental illness doesn't always develop because of a lack of parental figures.
That said, her dad was practically absent and Mike and her brothers took over his job. Her tradwife mom isn't exactly attentive to Lucy's needs, either, she just bakes cakes all day. Mike, Sam, and Jordan are the closest thing Lucy had to parents during her formative years. Unless you count the üntermensch pets.

Well you've probably heard this before but Loomis "Fun with a pencil" is a good starting point. Mainly it'll teach you the fundamentals of construction and drawing basic forms. The artwork and critique board has some good resources too.
There are other books to look up too. But the main point is to always practice. I know you said you're lazy but even if you're just half heartedly doodling it'll help you in the long run.
