It's one of those things that's pointed out and everyone is like OH YEAH and now any new black character with electricity/energy powers gets noticed and the many other characters with other powers aren't brought up.

There is no stereotype about black people having electric powers

Black Panther and black Green Lantern are both as or more popular than storm, and all you really have is Storm and Static Shock. The rest are just no-names and there’s plenty of black heroes without lightning powers. ‘Exception proving the rule’ doesn’t apply here, you’re just saying that because you think that’s what you’re supposed to say

          Read

It's cause DC wanted to avoid paying royalties to one of the creators of Black Lighting who did get character rights initially. This led to a bunch of Black Lightning clones that were made to avoid paying out.

            >Miles can manipulate lightning, dude.
I agree, but presuming you mean 'can't', even if he can't manipulate lightning bolts from the sky doesn't mean he doesn't have electricity powers.

        >The rest are just no-names
The rest are expies or family members. Black Vulcan, from Superfriends, was invented because there was some rights issue with Black Lightning. Usually these lists of black heroes with lightning powers are passed out like this
        >storm
        >static shock
        >black lightning
        >black vulcan
        >black lightning’s two daughters

That’s basically 4 people, and Storm has weather powers not just lightning, this whole thing is a stretch

To be fair, Storm controls all weather, not just electricity.

        >black lightning’s two daughters

Black Lightning's oldest daughter, Thunder, doesn't have electricity powers. Her powers are density manipulation.

Lightning is infinite energy, though writers (when they remember she exists) have her rely exclusively on electricity.

Luke Cage is bullet proof, no ice power there. Just tears of building immunity via increasing caliber sizes and tanking hate speech (to thicken his skin)

the real answer is that both ice and lightning are represented as light blue and white, and those colors contract with black skin

      >and those colors contract with black skin
Why doesn't this colour-coordination power-stereotype apply to other races?
And shouldn't natives/latinos have ice powers due to orange/blue contrast being highly popular in movie posters (granted latinos aren't exactly orange, but they're sometimes coloured that way in comic books because... honestly I don't know why. Comics just have weird colours sometimes)

Sounds like some people are desperate to make a cultural critique. You can tell it’s really important racism and prejudice to call out because it mocks the black race for the lightning powers they all obviously have

For too long the white man has kept us down with their lightning-based racism. I have been called a cloud coon, a bolt chucker, and even homiewatt. So what if we have a higher voltage than others, we’re just as good as acoustic people
