I’ve seen every marvel movie with the exception of an old punisher movie that was never released, the fantastic four movie that wasn’t released but later leaked, and the new mutants. I will eventually watch them but they’re low on my priority list.

I had a HTD pitch through the first three phases but Endgame hard stole my idea (instead of seeking the Infinity Stones in the past, my Howard movie would have seen Howie and Bev fighting their antagonist in the big background of the zeniths of all the prior Marvel movies, sometimes directly influencing the bigger heroes battles).

That version never really existed, but the Kuffour/DeMayo version did have Blade's daughter Zora and Rachel Van Helsing in prominent roles, with lot of focus on Blade and Zora's relationship, and it reportedly lacked action. It's one of the main reasons why Marvel fired Bassan Tariq and Ali insisted on a blockbuster director.

Mahershala is already 50, Realistically they don't have a script and the few people who are "attached" are doing other projects. He's going to be too old by the time they get a script, director and start date together, and in the mean time audiences are getting more and more weary of capeshit...
The R rating is the one thing that could make it interesting, but like other anons have said it shouldn't be this hard to write a film about blade killing vampires with a sword. The fact that it is taking this long seems to indicate they're trying to frick with the formula too much and insert too much political activism which is probably bloating the writing time and derailing the story.
And just because it starts as an R rating doesn't mean the studios won't neuter it down to a pg 13 and frick it up with reshoots and trying to add mcu cameos later on.
Cursed films like this almost never get back on track and end up producing a good end result.
There's no way they'd do more with an 'R' rating than include gore, sex, and violence. It's not like it would explore more adult themes by putting those elements into a context, and that's because they'd always want to be able to cut it down.
An actual hard R Blade would be epic though.

This movie is caught between disneys recent desire to push women, poc, and sexual identity over good and original stories, and having those projects fail miserably time and time again to the point of publicly admitting it. When you read the original synopsis of this film and how quickly they pushed Blade aside to focus on his daughter, it’s clear it would have ended out the same trash disneys been putting out.
