>Star Mahershala Ali is said to be increasingly frustrated. Ali, who has been attached to the project since 2019, handpicked Demange after the project lost director Bassam Tariq in September 2022. At the time, Blade was in preproduction and about two months from principal photography, but Marvel came to believe that Tariq was not the best fit for the project, according to sources. Marvel then presented Ali with a list of directors for consideration, but Ali conducted his own search after having concerns that the list largely featured filmmakers who were untested at the big studio level.
>Demange’s Blade was batting its wings toward a shoot starting in May 2023 and hired yet another writer, True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto, also an Ali pick, to bring the script over the finish line. But it was all for naught, as the writers strike, then the actors strike, shut the movie down. “People have missed about three windows to shoot other movies or shows,” an agent notes.
>But unlike several other Marvel projects that were shut down and then restarted — including Deadpool & Wolverine and Thunderbolts — Blade instead let most of its actors go, Delroy Lindo and Aaron Pierre among them, and went through more writers. Marvel hired Michael Green in November. And right after Demange left, go-to Marvel writer Eric Pearson, who had pleased the studio with recent work on Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four, jumped in.
I honestly genuinely do not think they can surpass Snipes' Blade. God that movie was fantastic.
>But it wasn't accurate to the comics
Never read em. Snipes Blade was a nearly perfect film.
I also cannot read any text containing the name "Tariq" without laughing due to the Magnum Opus of one zesty, zesty buck.
>>But it wasn't accurate to the comics
That was never a common complaint. He barely existed in comics before the film.
I agree. It’s simply not going to be possible to make a better Blade movie than what we already got.
100% right. The stars aligned in terms of fun, great direction and actors.
This.
>But it wasn't accurate to the comics
Nobody has even read a Blade comic, and virtually nobody reads comics today. It is a zombie industry that was totally captured and strangled by the same sort of people attempting to kill every other medium.
One things for Tariq Nasheed forever made the name infamous.
Frick off with your woke black lead films troony
I hope Mahershala is getting paid well for apparently being the only person involved in its production who wants the film to be good
Never forget that we were barely saved from a feminist reboot where Blade was the 4th lead in his own film
I've gotten to the point where I hope stuff like this gets made.
>So you have a movie for me?
>Yes sir I do. I was thinking we make a movie based on Blade
>Oh I cut myself this morning on my kitchen knife. But I don't know if that's enough material to base an entire film on
>No sir, I mean Blade the comicbook character, not blade the generic term for a sharp edge
>Oh, woops
>Woopsie
>So what does Blade do in this thing?
>Not much
>Come again?
>Yeah I figured that we should put a modern twist on it. So instead of making it about an undead black vampire who hunts other vampires...
>...Yes?
>Do you see where I'm going with this?
>...No?
>We make it about a white woman and her teenage lesbian sidekick of ambiguous ethnicity as they battle an evil female vampire
>Why?
>What?
>Why would you do that? Won't audiences expect to see Blade in a Blade film?
>Well it's what I wrote down. See, I wrote it right here
>But why?
>Look I'm gonna need you to get all the way off my back about why I wrote what I wrote
>Oh okay, let me get off of that thing
>Thank you. So after the women team up to do Blade's job for him, the evil Lillith appears and she starts criticising the patriarchy and is really strong. So the good guys are really conflicted because they agree with everything she's saying
>Oh, so it's gonna be really difficult for them to fight her I guess?
>Actually super easy, barely an inconvenience
>Oh really?
>Yeah, see after Blade gets wounded and becomes unable to fight, the girls just kind of kill her
>They just kind of kill Lillith?
>That's what we're going with
>Well alrighty then. But don't you think a respected and methodical actor like Mahershala Ali might get discouraged from his character being sidelined?
>No, I think he'll be pretty pleased actually 😉
NEWS: Actor Mahershala Ali leaves Blade project after years of disagreements with Marvel studio heads about the film's direction.
Good joke man
What "life lessons" would a women led narrative be able to teach Blade.
It's NEVER okay to ask a woman if the reason she's acting emotional is because she's on her period.
Really want this to be good sounds like marvel is just fricking with it
>could have been pizzakino
>Tariq
hmm how bout the better Tariq
>calls white men gay and feminine
>wears those silly earrings
So it's Ali fault not marvel's (for once) he wants a big cultural film for blacks and calls Blade his Black Panther fricking cringe
It seems Ali just wants the movie to be better than a typical conveyor belt post-Endgame movie but the scripts so far have been shit
>the lead actor choosing the director
The frick? Also this nog is a nobody. He doesn't have the star power that Snipes had.
Snipes in his age today would have beaten the shit outta Ali and other black stars. I hope that homosexual quit Hollywood because they have nothing for him.
>go-to Marvel writer Eric Pearson, who had pleased the studio with recent work on Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four, jumped in.
These people get paid millions of dollars for the discernment of hiring people like this
Why didn't he open his eyes?
Because he didn't want to see the smallhat shitshow production he'd fallen into
They need to give up on Mahershala and the current script and do a comics accurate Blade set in England.
source you moron
Looks like some motherfrickers are always trying to ice skate uphill
Why is Marvel asking the actor which director they want? Seems like the whole thing is being mismanaged at the top.
It went downhill when they first hired some black feminist woman to write the first screenplay.
What makes Wesley Snipes the GOAT for making probably the best antihero movie MC ever?
>go-to Marvel writer Eric Pearson
>Black Widow
>Thor: Ragnarok
>Thunderbolts
We don't Fricking want this! Why are they doing this!?
>5 years since movie was announced
>two directors exit
>not a frame has been shot
>two time academy award actor stuck in contract
It's like a giant game of chicken.
How hard is it to write a movie about a strong black woman who don't need no man? Also she's lesbian and smarter than Tony Stark. Ali needs to stop getting in the way of the writers and trying to insert some stupid vampire plot line to the story. No one wants to see some movie a toxic male power fantasy.
Because even for women, a woman's worth is only relative to that of men who came before her.
Break that glass cieling, sister.
Bro what the frick
Blade is the easiest slam dunk and yet they can't make it
Movie about a black dude being badass killing vampires
It writes itself it doesn't even need to have an interconnected plot with the rest of the MC- ooooohhh...
Someone is sabotaging this production from the inside. Someone who doesn't want it to succeed.
And they would've gotten away with it too if it wasn't for that uppity Mahershala!
I'm joking, Mahershala will quit pretty soon and shitty slop will release shortly afterwards
The longer this goes, the more I'm starting to believe Ali has already left the project and marvel is trying to let it fade away from the collective memory, like those never-officially-cancelled star wars projects
>Cast middle aged actor with no martial arts experience
I can't believe they actually had the perfect diverse role and completely screwed it up
Yeah Ali will probably just quit eventually and then Marvel will do their original idea of a Blade movie about a bunch of lesbian black queens. The Acolyte Vampire Capeshit Edition.
Ali will retire acting there's NOTHING GOOD being an actor due how much bullshit has Hollywood been through.
More black actors/actresses will quit due how bad Hollywood has been and stigma that's carrying through DEI hires. No one wants to be that Black acting to look like a joke.
