During the 18th century and thereabouts "white" was synonymous with the typical Anglo complexion; extremely fair and pale on its own and pink/red when exposed to sunlight as opposed to a darker tan which central and northern Europeans are more likely to experience.

He's right, it's not. The racial category is properly called Mongoloid. Sometimes "Asian" is used to mean the same thing, but in that case Afghans, Arabs, Armenians, Indians, Persians, etc., aren't "Asian" in that sense of the word.
