Are there any movies that have a Dragonball tournament arc structure to them? like where all their characters get their individual fights to shine and there's a clear progression of winners facing off against each other as they progress? I watched Enter the Dragon thinking it would be that but the tournament in that movie just seemed kinda haphazard, a secondary part of the plot and not fun to watch. The Quick and the Dead felt more like what I'm looking for but that was a quickdraw torunament

Raul Julia and Van Damme's acting roles, both for the good and for the bad, made the movie rewatchable. A shame because there were many decent actors and stuntmen there (Wes Studi, Damian Chapa, Jet Urquidez, Van Damme, Charlie Picerni) but too many small scenes and not enough good dialogue, it's obvious the movie was an improv work due to losing the G.I. Joe license.

Wich one is the one with dennis rodman?that was a good movie too

Double Team, israelites hated Rodman for jumping the waiting line and becoming a leading role despite said move being made by Menahem hence the banter about his acting but he did it better than many who call themselves actors.

      >Jackie Chan is the action movies goat
Debatable, Gordon Lau is up there with him and Sammo Hung, maybe Lu Feng, Donnie Yen and Hwang Lee too if they had a more varied work. Jackie Chan is very flashy but at no moment he looks like he could whoop your rear like those in some of their movies. Lau Kar-leung if you count directing is the absolute GOAT.
The problem with western action stars, in terms of hand-to-hand combat movies, is the choreography which is a shame because americans have tons of actual good fighters but seems none with the training or IQ. Van Damme contrasted in that he participated with chink choreographers and has some knowledge in flashy moves as he knows a slow predictable kick is more attractive than a sharp fast one, hence his much higher quality aesthetically speaking.

      Anonymous

The problem with Van Damme is that he insisted on making the fight choreography as slow as possible in his movies. Why? I don't know. Maybe he thought it made the scenes more dramatic. I'm not a fan of super fast fight scenes, but shit like Lionheart was like watching him fight in molasses.

The soundtrack is legendary. It makes 80% of the movie imo. Also, there are so many little details that you don't notice the first time around. For example, just watch some of the fighter's reactions in the background during some of the fights.
Also, just before the "You break my record, now I break you, like I break your friend!" part, there's a poor Chinese guy in the crowd he looks like he's about to pass out. He appears, disappears, then reappears in the next shot.

The Quest is better just because it really showed how much bullshit he talks about that he really believes
Ya'll be shitting on Steven Segal but Van Damme literally believes in there being a secret world fighting tournament that his friend was invited to

      >Van Damme literally believes in there being a secret world fighting tournament that his friend was invited to
Can you give me one reason why this is unbelievable?

Van Damme said Dux was pants on head moronic but that he is a great storyteller
And that secret tournaments exist, just like secret most anything you want also do

Dux was full of shit about his achievements but why wouldn't high profile underground fighting rings exist? It would be a great gambling racket.

It does exist. We have those in Colombia. I've been a couple of times and chatted with one of the fighters. He usually works as bouncer and makes like 100 USD per fight

How is this news even? Illegal bare knuckle fights are an actual thing. What, you think MMA is the pinnacle of underground fighting or some shit? What are you, 12?

        >because you acknowledge shitty underground fight clubs exist it means that Mr. Dux really did fight in a magical lost city that never appears to outsiders unless they have a mystical invite

trolls, they never cease to amaze me

          Anonymous

It got lost in the retelling. Yes, they used to organise fights in places like Hong Kong on the water far away from not-so-easily-bribed police. So they'd attach a bunch of boats together Presto: magical lost "city". Shit like that still happens today, and without an invite, you are not fighting. Technology!

I mean, I'm not sure who is more guillable. People who believe the exaggerated version, or you. I mean, you're a prime mark, like no shit.

He did. I've been to that city because I'm a master of the Dem Mack.

I can kill a man by twisting one of his nipples, so you'd better watch out.

The defense of Van Damme's moronation is pretty funny
    >Dux was moronic and lied we know
    >buuuuttttt like underground fights exist

holy shit, how did people go from 'Van Damme believed Dux about it being a global sponsored fight tournament in some hidden city in China that nobody ever heard of and only backtracked when exposed' to 'bruh it was just a small fight club in downtown Harlem or some shit'

      Anonymous

      >buuuuttttt like underground fights exist
I know for a fact underground sex clubs and secret track race competitions exist, why not an underground secret "two dudes kicking each others' shit up" club exist?
      >only backtracked when exposed
In The Quest DVD he and some others said they distrusted Dux after seeing he wasn't better than them in terms of speed or even technique. That was back in 1996 and not in the early 00's when every hobbyist mag was calling out Frank

        >it was really a small club
        no honey, no
See, Mr. Dux, actually convinced Van Damme that it was in a forbidden city
Now, nobody is arguing in Harlem or wherever Van Damme beat up bums for a few bucks that these street fighting clubs exist but rather that Van Damme's magical invisible city to foreigners exists

let's focus on the reality and not on what you want to troll about

Underrated JCVD kino. Doesn't have much actual martial arts but when I see threads asking for prison kino and everyone mentions Shot Caller, Felon, etc I always wonder why this one never gets mentioned.
