played it for a bit because it's a video game and not a cartoon lol, beat the tutorial boss, and dropped it. i know i didn't give it much time at all, but it kinda just felt like shit to play and the artstyle being both calarts and also super overanimated wasn't helping at all.
I played the NextFest demo and it was really underwhelming. I read some reviews and one of them compared it to Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion and that's really apt. Super shallow braindead gameplay, that it tries to cover up by being quirky. Just boring and uninspired. #BLUD at least has expressive animation but it's not enough to make it worth playing.

I'd argue it's not over animated, the expressive style goes a long way in making the routine gameplay more satisfying, with a fair few unlocks just being alternate kill animations there's some mileage out of it.
It's definitely not the most advanced gameplay out there but I'd say it's serviceable. The real failing is in the readability of the bosses and moment to moment gameplay, not enough time given to explain boss mechanics or telegraphing attacks can mean you'll spend a couple of lives just going over the boss by rote.
Interaction with the npcs is where the game really shines, the kids are all very charming and it's got a little darkness to it that makes it feel closer to real kids fricking around without hitting edginess.
