Never heard of this film. Never saw any advertisements for it. Probably doesn't have anyone involved in it that I care bout.

I think the last time I saw a movie in a theater was for The Revenant. It wasn't easy, either. I had to go to three different theaters because every other place was sold out either because they were only showing it once a day in a theater with only 16 seats, or because Deadpool was taking up all the available theater space. I drove to four different theaters for a film that was ultimately just alright.

The biggest problem with this movie is that for action to work it needs to be sincere. Yes, it can be humorous and more often than not action movies tend to be hilarious but they're all camp in tone. Try to remember all the great action movies from the 90s or the Jackie Chan's stuffs.

When action movies are made with this new type of humor that is so self aware wink wink the action ends up feeling lifeless. The stunt can be great and the scenes elaborate, but audiences will just check out from the movie entirely because the illusion of danger is gone.

Yeah. The final fight where the movie tries to be more serious and introspective because there is a bit of emotional stake really work, specially thanks to the acting prowess of that guy. He really sells it.

The previous ones, while great in a stunt manner, feel very boring because the characters are all doing a bit and the tone, the voice over, fricking everything is poking fun out how outrageous and quirky everything is. The stunt is great, but you just don't care.

The plot twist felt like such a jarring shift in tone. The entire movie is nothing but some meta aware quirky movie and then at the end they go for this twist where they try to add some bit of emotion asking the audience to take this character's journey and emotional struggle seriously, which just doesn't work. Specially because they still try to go for the humorous go kill bad family bit despite the twist.

Yes, you can make movies with male leads that bomb, shocker!

However this has a $18 million budget, so it won't actually bomb, it will eventually break even.

Meanwhile Furiosa cost $170 million (not counting marketing which is easily another $50-80 million) and has made $70 million (of which the movie studio gets ~50%). That IS A BOMB that will never break even.

I’ve never heard of this movie. It must not have much of an advertising budget
