I used to like Sam Hyde back in the day, when he would make funny content with MDE. I think the show being cancelled was really the beginning of the end for them. The humour felt really schizophrenic in an interesting way that was so different from anything else I’d seen. The misanthropic nature of Sam is really appealing when your a teenager.
The last few years have really made me hate Sam though, he’s just an extremely negative person in the worst ways. All he talks about are things he hates. Watch any of his streams and it’s mostly him just complaining about shit, how this thing is dumb, how this type of person is a drain on society. It’s exhausting to listen to. I genuinely couldn’t tell you something Sam likes or finds admirable other than “hustling”. He’s almost 40 and he surrounds himself exclusively with people in their early 20’s,because most people his age are “losers”. The shitty part is the show was good and beat Eric Andre in ratings. Sam had to have his little ego trip and ruin his friends careers. Look at what the abysmal trash he’s produced since world peace without Andrew ruse.
Basically I put an application up on the usual sites and I filter all the apps by their age. The closer to 18 the better. I also let them know that this is a working internship with a stipend. After I have my 50 applications of 18-year-old guys I look over their work. No work history is even better. If their demo projects look fantastic then I know they're hungry and they need work experience to make it and I could provide it for them. I reach out to them I let them know they're working minimum wage and to make them feel better I let them know that how hard it is to get work experiences these days in the artistic fields. Whenever they seem like they're grumpy I just pay for lunch for everybody and it usually makes them happy. After a couple of years of using them up I fire them and I hire a new group of 18-year-old kids. I look for weird kids, kids without fathers so I can roleplay as I substitute dad.

it's fine to enjoy MDE. i've been around them since 2009. i enjoy sam's body of work. however, MDE fans that came about from Tyler's New Bowlcut and the fucking Ted Talk video are awful. Even worse is anyone who came into this group from PGL clips on youtube. absolute moronbrained bottom feeders, i unironically want WP2 to do well because it will be closer to the original content they used to make

In the 7 years since the interview Bernstein has established himself as a leading journalists for one of the most well known newspapers in the world: the New York Times. Meanwhile Sam doesn't really seem to have accomplished much of anything except for losing his show and having all his content scrubbed from Adult Swim's archives. I can't help but feel like Bernstein has had the last laugh here....

Don't really give a shit about Breaking Bad but what I find irritating about Sam and co is that they love to shit on things but never talk about things they like. It's easy to be reductive and hold an air of superiority about a popular piece of media. Opening yourself up about things you genuinely enjoy takes much more courage.
