The real stretch would be if a troony pulled this off and the explanation was that the spell "could tell" what its spirit animal was.

Eowyn the Shieldmaiden of Rohan is an awesome character. She loved Aragorn unrequitedly and then started seeking death in the battlefield. After killing the Witch-king with Merry she loved and married Faramir and became a healer. More women should be like her.
This why feminists can’t put her on pedestal.

    >but black elves is such a stretch

A young girl who is forced to grow up quickly when her parents died, grew up without a female's influence, is surrounded by alpha male warriors training day and night, wants to become a warrior herself, is rebellious and trains on her own, learns how to fight, is naturally fearless from being orphaned at such a young age, has been told by the men in her life that fighting is only for me, decides one day to be the warrior she thinks she is and marches out to battle.

The answer is, yes, that is quite believable and remarkably good character development.

Now, on the other hand, forcing current political biases where it does not exist in a landmark and beloved story is not only a mutilation of the subject matter but also a complete disrespect for the author and his vision.

And of course the mutilation is being ordered by one of the far-left billionaire oligarchical collectivists, Jeff Bezos.

Also in the books she makes up a fake name which is why she keeps the helmet on. Even fools Pippin until the moment she stabs the Witch King.
Also by this point she's suicidal because she loves Aragorn so much and he just entered the paths of the dead.

Faramir restores her will to live in the houses of healing where they have a romance.

The dark elves were just afraid of Orome so they ran away and refused the call of the West. They weren't a new tribe and even if they were there's no reason to think they would have different skin than the other elves. If you want to go even further, there's no reason to think that any creatures would have dark skin because the sun didn't exist until long after the elves were created so no UV rays kek

The Avari were the Noldor and Teleri who stayed behind and never journeyed to Aman. They're not black.

they're just gonna end up retconning the lore to make pale elves the product of some ancient curse, leaving the noggits and such to be named purest children of the timeless soil or some dumb shit. which would go right along with the idea of whites damning the world with their true evil nature.

The Avari are not necessarily a part of the other elven clans. It is nowhere stated that there are only 3 elven clans, only that 3 leaders were chosen to travel to Valinor and return and guide their people back.

And the elves just kind of grew up out of the earth at the time or Eru's choosing. there's no evolutionary process which would give them light or dark skin.

            >It is nowhere stated that there are only 3 elven clans
In all of his writings, Tolkien only ever said there were three kindreds. The Vanyar, the Noldor and the Teleri. We know that every single one of the Vanyar went to Valinor, so that leaves chunks of the Noldor and Teleri to make up the ranks of the Avari. Tolkien was very specific about the groups of elves that existed, as well as the groups of dwarves.

                Anonymous

Broseph, this is coming from Christopher Tolkien. It's in The War of the israeliteels, where he analyzes his fathers notes on the elves's beginnings. Technically, the three kindreds went by other names before they were called to Valinor, so that chart is accurate. The Avari had already separated by the time they took on the names we're familiar with.

That's fine because it was in the book, and it's not a "feminist" message. Her being a woman doesn't grant her any special powers, it's a creative way to use the words of a spell against the person benefitting from it. Sort of a monkey's paw thing.

First comparison I can think of is that short story where the mysterious stranger shows up offering you a million dollars if you choose to push a button. "If you push the button two things will happen. You will gain a million dollars, and *someone you don't know* will die." The character debate whether or not to push it in every version of the story, but ultimately do, but the punchline comes when the guy comes to pick up the button. "Wait! What happens to it now? Where are you taking the button." "Oh ma'am, we're going to give it to someone else now, but don't worry. I assure you, it will be *someone you don't know.*" The twist obviously being that because of the way that's worded, when whoever gets it next pushes it, you'll be the one that dies.

Witchking had a "that kid" spell. "Well I have a spell so no man can kill me!" She's being like a D&D using the words against him. It's even more satisfying from a narrative standpoint because she's doing it to avenge her uncle, she kind of has a deathwish and her being female adds an element of "She has a chance, but she's still physically frail so she could still fail!" so it works out really neatly. Tolkien was a master at building lore.
