he mainly focuses on people who commit crimes, which is why he would only kill criminals at first. it makes sense since his father is a cop and he was planning to join the force. he obviously strays away from this to kill people who get in his way, and eventually starts killing people just because they defy kira in general or he dislikes them. he also doesn't wanna topple society, he needs leaders in place (no matter how scummy) to keep the world together while he enacts his judgement. makes sense to me.

I've thought a lot about Death Note. A very exploitable rule states that the person whose name you write in the Death Note will die after completing whatever series of actions you write them to do, but dies immediately if unable to complete these actions.
So, using a Death Note to become the wealthiest private concern in the world is merely academic... assuming that your targets are unaware of the Death Note, and don't have paranormal protection.
Write down the name of a very wealthy individual and how they transfer all of their money to an even wealthier individual before suddenly dying of COVID-19 or something, then repeat the process with the next name, and go all the way up to the top.
Kira used something like this when he wrote Ray Pember's name in the Death Note, and also wrote how Ray Pember would write the names of everyone on his team in the Death Note (which looked like a normal notebook schoolkid Kira handed him), eliminating the entire taskforce.
That's actually where he fricked up -- one of many times -- because c'mon, now!

The Death Note kills however the user writes, if possible. You can't write that someone suffocates on the moon if they don't have a way to get there. Hmm, but what if someone wrote:

It seems the note controls death and/or people, the solar flare would have to have already happened, or been possible to happen on the date and time specified

also i assume if you knew the names and faces of everyone on that plane, and you wrote them all down in the note to die in the same crash then it would work

I have a bad attitude, but I don't have a god complex like Light and I don't think I can kill people that weren't trying to harm me. Ryuk would probably kill me for being a pussy.
I would absolutely use it on violent criminals and corrupt piece of shit politicians, which is pretty much all of them. I'm spiteful and full of hate and I'd probably use it on annoying celebrities too, and I'd make their deaths look deliberate and fitting to each one so they stand out. This is all in theory of course.

You have a maximum of 30 days of absolute control over someone before they die. All written commands that the person can carry out physically will be followed so I guess that would work.

The only thing that I never got about the Death Note is how it determines the time of death.
For instance if you you write, "Person X will slip in the shower and die at 8:00am" how does it know what the time zone is ? Is it 8:00am EST or PST or GMT? There has never been a show instance where a specified time zone was used.
