Can you make good money off mostly male cast do I have to include fanservice-tier female characters?

I suck at drawing women so gonna make my characters mostly men. Yes I can learn how to draw women but if I had to pick, I rather draw more men because it's easier and faster and less distracting

I can't say for sure nor am I well versed in the business aspect of market appeal. But from what I can tell I think that it is enough to have an IP with a predominantly male cast. I doubt it would be completely necessary to include fanservice, especially if you aren't interested in providing that. I think what matters most is perusing your interest and telling a story that you wish to tell.

you can make money off of a male cast if they are handsome and have homoerotic tension with each other

Can't say anything for the former but when it comes to homoeroticism, there is definitely a market for it. Be it from gays or females, there's a reason why certain genres depicting same-sex intimacy thrive.

Obviously, I was simply stating that there was a market for it. But to make it clear, the OP is not obligated to go in that direction by any means. What matters most is what they wish to tell in their work.

Wouldn't that go double for homoerotic tension? I haven't read Berserk but I am aware of shippers pairing Guts with Griffith.

I am curious, what is it that you are planning? Do you have an outline for what story you have in mind or an example of a character you plan to focus it around? I apologize if I am prodding too much, don't feel obligated to answer.

I do have an outline. It's about soldiers at war. And there will be plenty of naked muscular men, shower scenes, men beating each other up, and shooting shit. And many kino moments like pic related

Very interesting, thanks for sharing. I'd hate to keep you even further, I also wonder how long you've had this idea in mind. We're you inspired by a piece of media in particular or did it come from personal experience. Either way, it sounds like something I'd be interested in checking out. Beyond the characters did you have any other questions. I am far from an expert but if you are interested in any recommendations, I'll happily oblige. Hope for the best in your creative endeavors.

          >how long you've had this idea in mind

I had the story for 5-6 years. Some of the characters I had for almost 17 years but weren't really fleshed out until only a few years ago when everything started coming together. Like this one guntoting priest and a street kid I had, they're just stock characters and I didn't have a working story for them. Eventually when I was putting the story together, the street kid grows up to want to become a soldier and the priest tries to talk him out of it, and has to witness him become a literal human weapon. The priest also has his own side story where he's a gangster in prison in his youth, which I only came up with like 4 years ago.

          >We're you inspired by a piece of media in particular or did it come from personal experience.

It was a bunch of little things from media and personal experience I put together. I can't say my story had direct influence from any one published media. If I had to compare my story universe to something I would say it's a mix between The Godfather and Starship Troopers.

The venture bros did it and surprisingly the fujo fanbase is very small despite it being mostly male characters. It seems to be popular with dudes more

There's no reason why venture bros would be popular with fujos. What I am wondering however, is when did south park become popular with fujos?

        Anonymous

Not that anon nor do I don't watch either show, but from fanart I happen across of the Venture Bros. It usually consists of Brock Sampson and Dr. Venture intimate with one another. I guess they are a popular pairing amongst that crowd.

        Anonymous

Well i think its more that there arent a lot of venture bros fans active in the “fandom” scene, so that probably plays a factor. The show’s characters have the same appeal as tf2 characters and the fujo fanbase for that is huge, which is where my surprise comes in

It's a annoying narcissistic schizo that usually prefaces the OP as asking how to get oddly specific amount of views per month (600K, if iirc) on his webcomic, despite not even making a webcomic. He then lashes out at anyone giving advice or critique and usually threatens to an hero himself, but sadly he hasn't yet.

I think OP was asking about including female characters for the sake of fanservice to the male audience. Either way you have a point and OP has every right to take their material in whatever direction they wish.

He doesn't have to do that either. Men will and do consume shit that is mostly or all men. Even DB got more popular once it focused on macho men fighting in the tenkaichi budokai and mostly ditched the raunchy Toriyama typical stuff and the gag focus.

Exactly, I don't think it is necessary either and with what OP has mentioned thus far. I think it can provide more than enough with a solely male cast.

But more seriously, a war drama shouldn't have gurls in it anyways. See Team Yankee, or the numerous euro war comics for an example. No women with any speaking parts at all.

For the story you had in mind, I think it will be fine if the cast were solely male. I was wondering when it comes to drawing females, what is it that you have challenges with. In the end I think it would be better to practice whenever you can. Not necessarily implementing female characters in your work but something to broaden your range in illustration.

women arent that hard to draw but their hair and clothes are trickier, idk how to make older women look like they fit into the story. I can only draw cute cartoony chicks or cute old grandma types who look like they bake you cookies but they don't really fit the style of the story. I try to draw women in a more mature style and then they end up looking like twinks with breasts. Male bodies a bit more complex to draw but it's pretty routine for me at this point.
