Borgias (Showtime) or Borgia (Canal+). The former has a better; the latter actually finished its series.

forget it and just read books, Hollywood is bad for historical portrayals in general but they are particularly dreadful for the medieval era

What's the difference between dark and middle? Or midevil? Do these terms actually mean something or is it just pseudotalk for everything that happened before the reinessance

          Anonymous

The medieval era is a period that encompasses roughly 800-900 years, the term dark ages was commonly used to describe the early centuries as some transition between the chaos following the end of the western Roman empire and the proper stablishment of the feudal system, I'm not sure where it starts the middle middle or if that's actually a thing, but I've seen that people recently prefer to use the term "early medieval period" instead of dark ages and "late medieval period" to the years leading to the modern era(i.e. renaissance, religion wars and that shit)

Its generally accepted that 1066 was the start of medieval period in England. The end of Viking/Dane/Anglo Saxon England and the start of Norman dynasty.

For more Monk Detective kino: the tv show version of The Name of The Rose. I particularly liked that they delved further into WHY the main monk was at the monastery and the differences between his order, the monastery people and the regular church. I wish there was more church/monk politics in shows.

This is peak midevil cosykino. One of my favorite shows. There's a bit of a drop in quality in the last 2 seasons when netflix picked it up, understandably so, but the finale was really strong and the whole show is basically a consistent 8-9.
      Everything with Alfred is kino
There's one episode in s2 which is probably the best episode of any tv show ever made. There's KINO, and then there's that episode of TLK. I won't spoil which one, obviously, but you'll probably realize it. I'll actually spoilertag a not really spoiler to give a hint if you want
the scene in the wheat field at the end of the slave episode. Kino incarnate

can you get away with watching only seasons 1-2?

or is there a cliff-hanger that leads into the netflix era?

Netflix picked it up at s4, I think. If you don't want to watch the Netflix stuff, you can finish 3 because that's the end of a massive arc and basically the halfway point of the show. If you dont watch 3, you miss out on very important and great scenes between the two main characters. After that you can continue if you want, but the end of s3 is where you can properly stop. That being said, the netflix POZZ in 4 and 5 is there but it's fairly minimal compared to the other shows, and imo, those are worth watching too for the conclusion

wiki says s3 was netflix too - so gonna pass tbh.

most modern shows are not that good anyway - they all drag out for way to many episodes and the passion is not there.

The White Queen is pretty good, it's really just about the war of the roses but they had to market it to roasties so they called it The White Queen.

      Anonymous

that’s not why it’s called the white queen. It’s a direct adaptation of a feminist rewriting of that time period, byPhilippa Gregory.

You could try some foreign shows, Spain had several historical shows like El Cid, Isabel and recently released "sin limites" about Magellan's voyage. All of them are kinda mediocre but maybe they could interest you.
