Oh yeah, a cartoon about the predictions of the future people had back in the 60's recreated close to, or during, said future. That's a good idea and not a shitshow waiting to happen whatsoever. Nothing I've ever wanted more than a bunch beloved characters from the mid-century speaking in modern slang and reducing their cool futuristic space predictions to boring down to earth modern barely equivalences. Frick.

probably but I was a 8 years old in 1996 and I liked almost anything sci-fi, so yes

The original was based on the optimism of 50s-60s sci-fi but it does occur to me that some talented people could make an interesting reboot but this time mix in some dystopian (present day) elements.
a similar approach to the IDW Flintstones run.

No that's dumb just like it was dumb in that comic.

There is a reason why the best Harvey Birdman Ep is the one that mocks the "high standard of living" that exists in the Jetson's universe

      >YES TALKING APE MAN I COME FROM THE MAGNIFICENT FAR OFF FUTURE OF 2002!

That's honestly why The Flintstones works a bit better. Keep the tech "stone age" versions of 60s tech and it's still golden.

This is why the Flintstones win!

You know if they made Flintstones today there'd be scenes with Fred ranting at a small blur bird or some other stupidly on the nose references to modern technology.

          >twitter is just a blue bird that says stupid bullshit all the time
I wouldn't mind that. I will also propose that gas-powered vehicles be introduced but they're as shitty as Teslas are in our world. Then either have Fred make fun of those people, or have him get a gas car and Barney makes fun of him when it explodes.

Watching Jetsons in the 90s I thought it was still futuristic, what's wrong? People didn't give up on flying cars until they tried to put it in practice at scale.

I don't think the Jetsons ever stated how far in the future they were so it being closer is a bit vague. Also it would've been made in the 90s which means it might've had a chance to be good unlikes it had been made post 9/11.

Why did Jetsons as an IP fail? Flintstones is seen as superior, even if that one got shafted as well.

Flintsones had a lot of visual gags and creativity when it came to translating modern tech into their cartoon caveman tech. Everything is Jetsons is just a super science ass pull.

Also Fred was a blue collar lout but lovable, George was white collar idiot and kind of a wimp.

The Flintstones' setting is more timeless.
The Jetsons' idea of what the future could look like was already outdated by the 70s.

It didn't fail, they brought the show back in the 80s because it was popular on reruns and it got 2 more seasons and a movie as a result, the 80s episodes in general are better than the ones from the 60s (fun fact ,John K work on the 80s episodes)

I think when it came down to it audiences could still relate to the Flintstones better than the Jetsons. The Flintstones featured your typical family roles--the exasperated wife, the loud, working class boorish husband and the requisite neighbours. It was basically a cartoon for the working-class.
The Jetsons by contrast didn't have as much personality, and much of their jokes rode on the futuristic aspects of their world, which just isn't as funny as character-oriented jokes.

90s CN was way too good to waste time and resources to have generic reboots like this
Good reason that outside the AS revamps there was no HB reboots for a long while after Secret Squirrel

Why? Who asked for this? Why did they give this show so many chances, I've never known anyone who actually likes it.

here's the issue: a good writer COULD write this fantasy alternative future world without accounting for our own real world, without needless modern memes and mentioning of current events, without needing to be "accurate" to the times, with creativity and the old charm this show had
    it's not that i think it's impossible
but i know it's not happening
because a good writer won't be hired to make this, and most writers in the industry nowadays can't imagine an alternative world or an adult cartoon that isn't topical and super current
