How is pointing out that TMNT beat out all those mangas shilling? You want to act like capeshit doesn't sell when it clearly does. There's even two indie western titles in there which are as far from capeshit as you can get. So this myth of manga domination is horseshit and baiting at best. The list is already skewed by calling it ADULT graphic novels because half a dozen scholastics kids books like Dogman fricking decimate this entire market. So every time you shill Demon Slayer should I just respond with 'entire manga industry outsold by a fricking dog cop?' what is your point here?

You're trying to convince yourself that the success of of one book here and there somehow dissolve the argument for the market underperforming, not to mention that even without manga saturation the sales for big two are dead on the water.

                >You pretend they're on equal footing hence you're a shill
I'm not pretending they're on equal footing at all because the metrics you're using to compare are moronic. If we're talking graphic novels then scholastic outsells manga. If we're counting manga as graphic novels then they're outselling capeshit but still getting beat by scholastic. What is your measurement here? Black and white manga shouldn't be comparable to 4 issue colour comic tpbs. It's comparing apples to oranges and your only thing seems to be arbitrary sales charts that omit one but not the other.

Here's some actual facts for you regarding 2023:
                >Marvel and DC combined are less than 10% of the book market.
                >When adding up the Top 750 sales of traditional direct market publishers (Boom!, Dark Horse, DC, Dynamite, IDW, Image and Marvel) they combined for fewer than 750k books sold – 10% of what Scholastic sold.

So when you compare Manga only to direct market western capeshit you see how fricking stupid whatever point you're trying to make is?
I'm not a shill I'm just looking for some actual facts and all you have is opinions with shitty data to back up your biases.

The problem with that quote, and one of many reasons why Nietzche is an eternal hack worshipped by pseudo-intellectuals.
Butterflies are pollinators. They help spread life and abundance simply by existing and following their biological programming. They are natural indicators that an environment is healthy and thriving.
wienerroaches, too, serve a function that benefits plants. However wienerroaches are also an indicator that an area is filled with rot and decay, as that is what the wienerroach feeds upon.

So if you see butterflies in your garden, it's a good sign that you've been tending to your land.
But if you see wienerroaches in your home, it means shit is way the frick out of order in your life and you need to make some changes.
It goes much deeper than aesthetics.

The actual regular age for comic readers actually engaged in new product is closer to 22-40. Usually coming off interest in other media, they jump into comics because they want more lore or background to these universes than the media adaptations provide.
Talk to a lot of people here who buy comics on new comics day and they usually say the people coming in are in their 20's-30's. It's readers who hit their 40's who burn out. All the people I see wanting less continuity or a reboot or just focusing on prestige stories tend to be older guys who want to recapture their glory days of reading comics. A lot of those kickstarter comics aim to this market. they'll spend $40 on a yearly book because a creator they liked 25 years ago is making it.
I'm not saying this is a common thing overall for the age group or that your average person in their 20's wants to read comics and invest in decades of continuity, but comics tend to attract lore-nerds who like that stuff.

It's not a bait thread. I am specifically talking about the cape genre in comics.

Maybe I've picked bad Manga I read Hellsing, Akira and FMA because the anime was great but Chainsaw Man was mid for me, One Piece unreadable, JuJutsu Kaisen was awful. I pure hate how much incest/creep shots/poorly written women are most MANGA.

I mean I'm not gonna FMa is still my favorite MANGA and anime hands down. It's just happens that it's hard to find well written stuff because the popular things happen to suck so much shit and the popularity is inflated by coomers. I grew up with comics so indie comics and other well written stories were always easy to find.

Okay I like capeshit, like alot but all those still blow the big 2 out of the water.

Like I said maybe theyre just probably bad picks for me I really didn't like One Piece, Chainsaw Man and Jujutsu Kaisen they just aren't my bag. Theyre not as good as FMA, Akame Ga Kill or even Naruto once you skip all the filler.

Sandman I read at 13 and made an impression on me. There's also MAUS, Preacher, Hellboy, Spawn, I Kill Giants, Scott Pilgrim, On A Sunbeam, Asterix Polyp, East of West, Somethings Killing the children which I found through a story time here. On that point every time I've gone to Cinemaphile to see whats good its been kind of a wash. I tried Made In Abyss and it was interesting as a concept but hard to separate from the weirdness of the authors treatment of the children in the story.

Well everyone has different tastes I suppose. I have a limited amount of time to spend on my comics I mostly read actual books so I stick to recommendations from people I think have good taste. My next comic is Beutiful Darkness which was recommended by a friend who works at Disney it made the rounds there so I assume it will be good if you're looking for something new.

Sandman is just incredibly old I haven't found a lot of new things that seem interesting. I've read all the old classic comics like Watchmen, TDKR, Singapore City, Ghost World. Fables was new when I was first reading comics and I did enjoy that.

Comics are undeniably declining. But I do get tired of the overwhelming negativity, and the people who assert that all comics suck even though they never read them and the only see the cringiest panels that are usually from z-list books that no one reads.

It’s painfully obvious people don’t read anything and just react/repost bait outrage shit. Just look how many people post in the Sentry threads whining about the character in the wheelchair because it feeds to their stupid culture war fixation.

Did they read the comic and know what’s the actual context? No, they just feel the need to come in and start b***hing about a comic character in a wheelchair being bad because that’s the latest hill to die on today.

If anything there is legitimately a mindset that they’re proud of not reading anything and then whining how everything sucks because their identity now is to be the whiny frick always complaining about something. It’s highly ironic they’re even worse than the SJW/PC/blue hair activist/woke/whatever they’re blaming for ruining everything because the outrage crowd has quite literally drown any ability for this board to discuss about anything intelligently because it’s just about being loud and angry and then getting pat in the back for everyone agreeing how much they hate everything and if someone disagrees they’re a corporate shill or the writer themself defending their own work. That also sounds like the big 2 editors and writers. Create bad content or schizo stories then you'll develop a anxious and angry fanbase (if they didn't leave silently) that reflects the very work being produced. DC and Marvel has no one to blame for themselves for this.

what the frick is left to discuss? you think people go out of their ways to REMAIN miserable? if this conversation proves so taxing on you just make some threads dedicated to a specific era or title of comics. There literally isnt anything left worth discussing about modern comics beyond how dogshit awful they are. Even the stuff that comes out that gains some positive buzz is utter shit and Im tired of seeing people jerk it off anyways. Immortal Hulk was a straight up regurgitation of Moore's Swamp Thing, and all the remaining shills just jerked off to it endlessly despite that. Skybound's Transformers just takes all the same shock value gimmicks from Kirkman's past successes and applies them to a now twisted parody of the G1 canon. The rest of the industry barely does anything else of note beyond consistently disappointing their dwindling readership. I cant wait for the remains of "the industry" to finally die.

They went wild with the "modernize it" and "shake things up" motto. Then they "make it relatable" and then "insert everything trending" happened.

Finally the stuff started to stick and they shoved crap into it, and instead of pies and candy we got shit shoved in our face. Public was ready, but the 'advancement' of the genre showed what it had become.

It lost before it began and we have a few actors, and some shows to thank for a boom. It's going to die off for a while now. It's not "hero fatigue" it's actually "idiots at the wheel need to lose and go away now".

I've seen enough renditions of flash changing the bad ending in so many other shows it's stupid to see now. Having SHE-HULK be a nannywoman and not a heart-throb was almost hurtful.

Then seeing our beloved woman-strong heroins being so clothed up they're in turtleneck suits to prove a point... They lost the point.

The mid teen years shows lost its creativity, and the follow up shows aren't holding the candle. They crossed over so much it made people afraid to watch the next episode to figure out whats going on.

And with all this, why bother now? When it exists it can collect dust until we get a feel for it during some point of this or next year. Like a "Star trek spree" or a "vampire movie spree", we'll get a "Hero spree" and at that point they've not made money off us for their work. So we continue to get B-Z tier movies and shows. No more A-tier content. If it does happen, well it'll fly under the radar in the swamp of shit that comes out.

I don't want a child-rapist"knight"Terminator. I don't want a "She is 18 on HER planet!" green lantern. I don't want another Dystopian future Flash. I don't want a discombobulated X-men timeline, again. I'll just re-watch Batman Brave and the Bold and half-remember the episodes as I watch them. Still laugh and smile, wishing I saw it when it came out.

Jeremy Adams is a Christian and he's writing Green Lantern, and that series is tons of fun and exactly what a superhero comic should be.

if you expand your definition of "cape comics" there's a lot more stuff out there than just DC and Marvel

    >Energon Universe: Void Rivals, TForms, GI minis
Its basically capeshit at this point. Like come on. Are you really going to say it's not like Superman or X-Men?

    >Spawn Universe: Spawn, Gunslinger, Scorched, King Spawn, Rat City
I'll be honest, I've embraced my inner teen again and I love what Todd is doing. There's so much ridiculous lore.

    >Dynamite Licensed titles: Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, Thundercats, Space Ghost, Johnny Quest
All fun Saturday morning, cape adventures. The price point is the only problem.

    Honorary capes:
    >Hellboy
    >Conan
    >Red Sonja
    >Usagi Yojimbo
    >TMNT
    all still going too

Nobody gives a shit about some random whos with decades worth of shitty stories. they want their childhood capes, not someone they didn't bother with before even when they were younger and less cynical.

Yes random whos. Get fricked. Nobody gives a shit about your spawn or hellsoy. The only time anyone ever talks about transsisters is when they announce another shlop. Tmnt are the only contenders and they're not even that interesting anymore.

Capeshit was always bad. There were very few truly great stuff and reading those tricked you into thinking there was more but even 80% of the well regarded classics are awful.

Ignoring the cape comics, why are some anons on here acting like Japanese shit was never mainstream until now? Mario (a japanese character and property) made over 1.3 billion at the box office. Pokemon being the highest grossing media franchise, DB was always known here….etc.

He told me to go outside and I did. Haven't looked back since. It's just a matter of time until characters I care about are killed in edgelord fashions for shock value, turned gay for inclusivity, or just replaced with a brown understudy who is smarter and cooler and better than them in every way because "frick you, yt."

this is ironic because that was Prime's whole thing in the 2000's. He killed a child.

i can never tell what the point of these threads are. it's not like celebrating the death exactly but also no one participating seems to even like comics. It's just the same annoying shit I have to see every so often on here

        Anonymous

These threads actually wouldn’t last long if shills didn’t keep bumping it to get the last word in. Everytime it’s about to die one of these (or one samegay) corporate shill jackasses

I'm not a shill I'm just looking for some actual facts and all you have is opinions with shitty data to back up your biases.

keep it alive. I don’t know what for, it won’t help big 2 sales nor will it stop the “capeshit comics are dead” threads.

yeah I moved to manga and manga is mostly brain dead paint by numbers slop but at least it's a little fun.
