the moment you realize he's trying too hard to make it seem like a genuine drama is the scene where Hanna for some reason shows up at the site where a young he cute Black prostitute was found murdered
isn't he actively pursuing the robbery homicide at this point? does L.A. only have one detective to investigate all the murders? feels dumb
and the way the scene ends with pacino holding the mom of the victim for what feels like 10 minutes and the camera spins around them as Mann wants to hammer it home >see see? this is drama!
