Cartoon Network hated Cow and Chicken

According to Fred Seibert, who was the driving force of the What a Cartoon! shorts program, Betty Cohen, the first CN president, was heavily against Cow and Chicken and didn't want the show to be made. Some points brought up was because the pilot did test poorly in focus groups (though it improved later on) and the character of Red Guy (known as The Devil) would stir controversy.

What do you think Cinemaphile? Was CN in the right?

After Ren and Stimpy, most producers probably weren't very fond of Ren and Stimpy style cartoons (but I think they're plebians)

The focus group improvements can be debated as it reportedly did well in key markets like New York.

I like the show, but you can tell it's a filler cartoon only made to reach syndication numbers.

I love Cow & Chicken and David Feiss is one of the greatest talents still working in the industry.

This is why Cartoon Network Studios dropped it.

They didn’t drop it. Feiss chose to end it.

Stop lying, literally says in the video. Dexter, PPG and Johnny Bravo continued while Cow and Chicken was dropped, never reaching the 2000s.

You’ve been saying that same bullshit for ages now. Cow and Chicken already had 52 half hours under its belt, it didn’t need more.

Cope, shit cartoon that only lasted 2 years. Outclassed by Angry Beavers and Timon and Pumbaa.

It was clearly a filler C-List cartoon. Dexter had a longer appeal. Still used to this day with merchandise, DVDs, Multiversus and Genndy is on the top.

Hold on there buddies, how come they hated Cow and Chicken but I Am Weasel with its similar humor (and subtle Trek references) got to survive for another year?

I Am Weasel in total has 79 7-minute segments, which is roughly 26 half-hours. It lasted longer so they could package episodes easier for rerun purposes.

I can only say that CN wa a massive hit in Poland at least. Among both kids and teenagers. That's all I can say. Don't know about the others, but it's one of the greatest cartoons ever made

To this day I'm surprised by the distaste I see for Cow and Chicken on the internet. When I was a kid, my classmates also liked the show, only one friend didn't.

    Baboon was hilarious.

Both as a kid and still today I think I Am Weasel is just a better show. Especially once the Red Guy starts showing up there too so it was just the best of both in one show

The original short had Chicken going to Hell for smoking a cigarette. Feiss clearly didn't give any fricks about Broadcast S&P.
