I read this like ten years ago and forgot what it's all about. Doesn't some dude kill someone on a beach and while he's on trial he admits he doesn't know why he did it? or doesn't care
did you read the book?
1. it wasnt self defense
2. theres a line in the book where he literally says "i took the gun because i went there to kill him because i wanted to kill him"
what surprised ME was that apparantely, back in the days they fricking executed you for killing an ARAB??
in the fricking 80s in south africa you could mow down a black guy and nobody would give a shit, and the french gays are killing whites for murdering a goddamn ARAB?
Word? I thought there were two (2) A-rabs on the beach, one of them pulls a knife and Meur shoots the knifeless one by accident because the sun was in his eyes (which would still be self defense in my book 'cause you're both jumping me, I don't care if you aren't the one with the knife).
I guess I need to read it again
man its been a year since i read it, but as far as i remember there was only one arab when he came back to the beach with the gun
but i know for a fact there is a part in the book where he said something like "i killed him because i wanted to kill him, i took the gun and walked back because i wanted to kill him"
no judgement here i mean man if i was at a beach and some fricking arabs attack me i would also like to come back and kill them, but maybe not say that
It's kind of like Catcher on the Rye where it's just a first person story about a guy who literally doesn't give a shit about anything. The whole first chunk of the book is him complaining about having to go to his mom's funeral. He fricks some b***h but thinks she's annoying then he kills an Arab because he gets annoyed and feels no remorse before his execution. Then a priest comes to see him and he still just doesn't care. It's a pretty miserable story but some autists like me can relate to some of the stuff he says.

my theory is that it is meant to show teens that being apathetic and not caring about anything isn't actually that cool.
Probably works for some but has the opposite effect for others.
Meursault is my fav character for sure because my fav thing in books is mundane events, and his book is full to the brim of it. Every chapter is like one of those novelty pet rocks, you open the book & POP you get a face fulla boredom and you fall back asleep. The mad mind, the crack genius, to do it! and then you think hmmm whats he gonna do next, this great mind, and you pick the book back up and BLAM you get a shot to the face and Hahahahahah you've been shot again by old Meursaualt, that card. "Whoops, I was looking at the sun!" he says, half-conscious. Watch him as he takes his mom's corpse and displays it for you- left, right, center - "you think she died today? Or yesterday???" Pulls out a calendar. "Ah!" Hand to naughty mouth. And you're on your ass again getting sleepy as his head snaps on the guillotine and rolls off right.
>Be me >19yr old skinny dork >Want to impress the hot 20 something librarian chick >Ask if I can reserve The Stranger by CamUS >She says 'you mean Camoo' and looks at me smugly >wtf I just stutter ok and get my reservation and leave never to return

I guess I need to read it again
The whole FKING POINT OF THE STORY IS HE DID SOMETHING RANDOM AND INEXPLICABLE ANON
FK
>With death so near, Mother must have felt like someone on the brink of freedom, ready to start life all over again. No one, no one in the world had any right to weep for her. And I, too, felt ready to start life all over again. It was as if that great rush of anger had washed me clean, emptied me of hope, and, gazing up at the dark sky spangled with its signs and stars, for the first time, the first, I laid my heart open to the benign indifference of the universe. To feel it so like myself, indeed, so brotherly, made me realize that I'd been happy, and that I was happy still. For all to be accomplished, for me to feel less lonely, all that remained to hope was that on the day of my execution there should be a huge crowd of spectators and that they should greet me with howls of execration.

They hang him because he didn't give a shit when his mom died and when he shot and killed someone in self defense

I'm sure murder in French colonies was handled a lot differently than in 80's United States

So it's "literally me" the book?
Pretty much and it's a short read. I read it in two sittings when I was in highschool
>He fricks some b***h but thinks she's annoying
Well that instantly disqualifies any literally me posts
my theory is that it is meant to show teens that being apathetic and not caring about anything isn't actually that cool.
Probably works for some but has the opposite effect for others.
basically it's just so fricking sunny out and it's so hot and god I'm sleepy
Literally me
who was the "stranger" anyway?
was it one of the arabs on the beach?
you can interpret Meursault as the stranger because he never fit in anywhere in society
Some israelites and an unattractive woman, probably
Would unironically be perfect for Ryan Gosling
Isn't he quite young? Gosling is old and puffy.

I know it's not meant to be a realistic character but it still pissed me off he didn't claim self-defense when it would've been extremely easy
Well it took place in Algeria
L’Algérie, c’est la France, Anon
It WAS France
Gosling might be the first go to, but I think the MC should actually look like Camu himself.
Mads? Meursault's age is never stated
Gaten Matarazzo
It was awkward when it was a new book in my school's curriculum and my teacher fricking hated it while I wrote a pretty glowing essay about it
This guy and Sydney Sweeney or Elle Fanning as Marie
I picture Meursault being older. Like mid 40's. He seems too dissociated with reality to be that young in that time period
unironically ryan gosling
People matured faster back then. Besides, Camus himself was in his late 20s when he wrote the novel.
hell no, mersault is not some homosexual twink
Paul Dano
>Be me

>Ask if I can reserve The Stranger by CamUS
>She says 'you mean Camoo' and looks at me smugly
>wtf I just stutter ok and get my reservation and leave never to return
idris elba as the sun
The Bull - Me
The prostitute - Your Mom
The cuck - (you)
The Man Who Sleeps captured the schizoid aloof spirit pretty well minus the violent resolution
I'm not watching a movie 50 years old homie kek
Ryan Gosling as the lead, obviously
Gaspar Noe could direct and star
it just fits
Not bad but he's not cute so it wouldn't sell tickets
I struggle to envision a young handsome Meursault but Robert Pattinson in Cosmopolis wasn't far off
He must have been pretty attractive considering he fricks prime French pussy without even trying
I was gonna say Fassbender, but this is a much better idea.
Michael Cera as the Stranger, Jonah Hill as the Arab, and that monotone chick as the love interest. Directed by Wes Anderson.
William Shatner as the priest
what monotone chick?
aubrey plaza, finally just remembered her name
The whole FKING POINT OF THE STORY IS HE DID SOMETHING RANDOM AND INEXPLICABLE ANON

Camus can do, but Sartre is smar-tre
french anon during the world cup
Coen bros already did it
>I'm Not There
>I'm Still Here
>The Man Who Wasn't There
Good trilogy
Alec Baldwin

The main character is played by the "I'm the freaking joker baby" guy
I don't think a child is even mentioned in the book, let alone an orgy
no, wrong book, that happens in another
That's The Thing, from Stephen King
already done in 1967
it's pretty exactly like the book
I nominate Mads
>Mads is 58 years old
Hold me bros
Me as Meursault
