What’s the breakdown on this guy? All I know is he used to have a really successful channel with a ben 10 video that has a ridiculous amount of views and now does comic book stuff.
Youtube Adocalypse + Divorce Rape ruined him and now he makes synth music.
You left out the part where he now does pen reviews.
Why are guys still dumb enough to get married nowadays?
Because a good marriage to a good woman is the formation of the family unit, the building block of society, and thus the norm. Also provides the basic human need of companionship (in theory for a lifetime)

This guy was a trust fund baby who made videos for fun and tried to make money on the side. He abandoned his channel and went to Amazon, then that didn't work out so he went back to YouTube for a bit, then rebranded his channel to be about comic books. Now he makes synth music and runs a shovelware book publishing company. Also he bought an entire warehouse to film in and sold all of the games donated to him
I thought he originally wanted to be a big history documentary or something, but that didn't really work out so he starts covering pop culture related topics. It's super bizarre that he comes form a rich family and freaked out when Youtube wanted to give less money.
Which is a shame because I just liked the sheer variety Mark covered. His reviews weren't always indepth but I at least discovered stuff I wouldn't otherwise.
Hell I own every Tokyo Xtreme Racing game because of this guy.
I liked that he put himself in the shoes of someone who'd appreciate the stuff he was covering a lot more than he actually did and his reviews were pretty short and to the point.
>sold all of the games donated to him
I get why you'd let a youtuber borrow something rare to make a video about, but why just give it to them? That's bizarre.
Started out making video game reviews with a friend, as is often the case friend eventually quits. He has a sudden rise in popularity some are suspicious of because if you break down the viewership numbers the massive spikes tend to come from the middle east. In particular his reviews of Ben 10 games got a ton of views. Also the lions share of the games he was given came from Muhammed in Qatar to the point people thought this person was a running joke until he did an interview with him. His other stuff was only middlingly successful. Then he created a secondary channel (CGRUndertow) where he farmed out his reviews to another guy. Eventually that channel failed. He bought some neat stuff to use for his channel studio and claimed he was "banished from Earth" and filming from a game review satellite in space. Once in a while he'd film his dog, whom he referred to as "viral dog". He did some crowdfunding for comic books he drew himself, I guess that wasn't terribly successful, the channel is currently rebranded again and all about his musical ambitions, but at least from the ones I checked they all have meaningless lolrandom titles and contain no vocals.
I know nothing about his divorce. Also I think at one point he had a separate website he sold games through. For what it's worth, I thought his video reviews were simple and cozy and did like some of his recurring memes, like his love for El Caminos and flamethrowers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NDc8456cOU0
The Mark story is a bit of a heart breaking one because I was a daily watcher for what felt like a good number of years.
Even watching his old content now is just nothing but a weird sore reminder.
Which is a shame because I just liked the sheer variety Mark covered. His reviews weren't always indepth but I at least discovered stuff I wouldn't otherwise.
Hell I own every Tokyo Xtreme Racing game because of this guy.
You know, I actually got the sense he cared and enjoyed his comic work like it was his true passion. It just wasnt good enough, only some jokes and concepts of it were good, but I truly feel bad. Watching his channel die just made me sad. I liked his comic though. I still remember it was Ethel the Cyborg Ninja and she worked with the coked out chicken.
What are some other good boomer gaming channels? So far I watch
-Laird's Lair
-Sharopolis
-No Swear Gamer
-Sega Lord X
-Gamesack
-My Life In Gaming (Coury's a bit of a pleb but Tryce is cool)
-Digital Foundry
-Happy Console Gamer
-Displaced Gamers
Accursed Farms of course, but you named most of them. I also usually look up retro lets plays and just check out the channels I see, sometimes find someone unkown.
Ashens was gold (mostly reviewed shitty Tiger LCD games and that sort of thing) but obv he ran out of material in the end so switched to a food reviewing channel ftmp which was still good
haven't watched him in a few yrs so dunno what he's doing now. believe he's still going though
made a movie with Cinemaphile's favourite warwick davis iir
Gamesack basically went the same route, one of the two quit the channel to focus on his job and family. Some of the others you named pop up in my feed from time to time but I don't regularly watch because their style doesn't really do it for me. I'm more likely these days to just search for a review of the specific game I'm looking for and click the first one that isn't corporate.
Most of the vidya channels I used to follow met with bad ends. Samtron married a guy from Japan and her channel died. Her last social media post basically outlined that she's a housewife in Japan who can never go outside or do anything but raise their kid and her husband is fucking soapgirls on the side.
PattheNESPunk realized the podcast format got him way more views than any of his produced content and was cheaper and easier, but his co-host Ian is a druggie shitlib so despite initially claiming to be libertarian Ian dragged him further and further left until it got to a point where they spent 11 minutes sucking off HBomberGuy and I unsubbed.
JonTron hasn't touched video game content in years. He drops like three videos a year about random crap, no idea how that model is even profitable.
PushingUpRoses discovered she got way more views reviewing individual episodes of Murder, She Wrote and Goosebumps so her point and click adventure content is as dead as the genre.
I was this one dude, scxcr and I don't have any idea how what he does is sustainable. Somehow he makes money streaming I guess? He goes to tournaments for Bloody Roar or something, his videos get like 120 views a piece yet he has a decent fanbase. I miss the format of a lot of his older stuff. I just don't get how that's remotely sustainable or how he can just carry on. I mean he's been putting videos out for at least a decade and his uploads rarely crack a thousand views. That has to be soul-crushing.
To follow up on this, I still watch:
SsethTzeentach
MandaloreGaming
SNESDrunk
AccursedFarms
AlphaBetaGamer
IrchaGaming (she likes girly games so I consult her videos when getting some for my niece.)
TheGebs24(pity clicks if I'm being honest.)
MetalJesusRocks
ErickLandonRPG
GameDave
ReRez
Caddicarus
PBG
ProJared (just because he managed to completely turn the tables on that metoo situation.)
NostalgiaWound (it's dead, CF hasn't touched it in years.)
Crowbcat
GallopingGhostArcade
I'm subscribed to Dunkey though I don't actually like his videos that much...
RockCock64
Mega64 even though I haven't watched any of their content in forever.
>PushingUpRoses reviewing individual episodes of Murder, She Wrote >her point and click adventure content is as dead as the genre.
Thanks for the infodump. I don't follow most of those people, but it's kind of interesting to hear about them.
However, I do follow Roses, and I think she dropped the adventure games simply because there wasn't any more of them to review. (And she's done reviews of the odd few that still get released, like Thimbleweed Park and the new Monkey Island game.) She said it herself: there's just no more games (from her childhood) to cover, so she had to move on.
I think her actual problem is getting divorced and becoming a bitter catlady, but that's another subject entirely.
Undertow and that other guy went on podcast a couple years ago and basically said CGR overspent his money and didn’t know how to adapt to YouTube. They weren’t mean or bitter about it, just sounded a bit resigned that their boss just up and quit trying.
No essays, just casual talk on games. Even if he reviewed it already he could revisit them and make new jokes. He also could have moved on to reviewing retro consoles, doing lets plays while he records footage, idk. The charm was his approach and way of talking imo.
On that podcast the other guys basically said Mark’s videos about current (at the time) games had more views than his usual content. He didn’t know how to balance time making videos on retro and current games.
What’s the breakdown on this guy? All I know is he used to have a really successful channel with a ben 10 video that has a ridiculous amount of views and now does comic book stuff.

He got married before facebook was a thing
Didn't he go full woke too?
You left out the part where he now does pen reviews.

Sounds like /misc/ cope.

Did you actually watch the video, anon?

Everyone got super wrapped up and overreacted to YouTube cutting rates. Also he was spending a lot of his money on it and didn't want to anymore.
>sold all of the games donated to him
I get why you'd let a youtuber borrow something rare to make a video about, but why just give it to them? That's bizarre.
90% of them came from the son of a Qatari oil baron or something

Play Truxton
BANISHED FROM EARTH PLASTIC GAME ROOM BROADCASTS
The Mark story is a bit of a heart breaking one because I was a daily watcher for what felt like a good number of years.
Even watching his old content now is just nothing but a weird sore reminder.
The worst part is that Derek wanted to keep the channel going and offered to take over/pay for the name and Mark still said no.
Which is a shame because I just liked the sheer variety Mark covered. His reviews weren't always indepth but I at least discovered stuff I wouldn't otherwise.
Hell I own every Tokyo Xtreme Racing game because of this guy.
Has Derek done anything since?
Classic Game Room was great

It's always sad when people just give up on their channel instead of continuing as a hobby.
Still haven't played Truxton yet.
It's not all that good

You call those Boomers? Step aside nerds, the REAL boomer is here
Undertow and that other guy went on podcast a couple years ago and basically said CGR overspent his money and didn’t know how to adapt to YouTube. They weren’t mean or bitter about it, just sounded a bit resigned that their boss just up and quit trying.
Anyone following can see he didnt know how to adapt. It will haunt him to his grave, he had such a fan base.
What could he have done to adapt besides making faggy zoomer-style video essays?
You're right there was nothing he could do.
No essays, just casual talk on games. Even if he reviewed it already he could revisit them and make new jokes. He also could have moved on to reviewing retro consoles, doing lets plays while he records footage, idk. The charm was his approach and way of talking imo.

smart thing would be shitpost on new games and be serious about old shit
I think I looked him up online once and found out he was a historian focused on the civil war and railroads
I hope his cute doggo is doing okay
