It was a hint of pedophilia rampant in the industry. It’s one of the most important scenes in the movie. The jarring dark tone to it is extremely significant. The scene is meant to convey an identical vibe to what a child experiences among all the sex traffickers and pedophiles. Watch it again and understand children have been getting raped, dismembered, and eaten by very powerful people for a long time now.
They don't come of as molesters or pedophiles at all, they just seems like a group of goofy lads mucking around in the forest for a laugh. They're even angry at her for being disrespectful and pushing things too far by throwing their heads around, which shows they have restraint and limits.
I think they're just confused as to why her limbs are all attached. Maybe I'm biased because I've always been a Fire Gang enjoyer but to me it seems like they literally did nothing wrong.
I never said they did anything wrong. I was just pointing out the irony of their outrage at her being unrestrained enough to toss their heads around when they were giving her shit about being so restrained she couldn't toss her own.
To show off having multiple puppeteers controlling detachable body parts in front of a green screen. It looks kind of cheap now, but back then it would've been amazing when you barely ever even saw a puppets feet let along simultaneously moving body parts.
Well if Jim Henson meant this the whole time, then atleast he had a good message behind it. I should listen to lyrics again then, because usually I'm too busy grooving.

Blue screen had been widespread since the 50s already and this just looked like another instance of it to the audiences of the 80s. It would be like us seeing shitty green screen today.
No, it looked crap on release, and Henson knew it looked crap, he was not happy with the chroma key effects at all, but he kept the song in regardless because of the puppeteers' good work.
I felt like it made the Labyrinth a dangerous place. Even casually even when they're trying to be friendly these things just don't have a concept of limitations or boundaries. They were about to rip that b***hes head off.
it's a metaphor for how men become predatory and aggressive with you in public if you're a woman. the whole film is about a girl growing up and learning how to deal with becoming an adult and the struggles that come with adolescence for girls.
they speak like jamaicans or drunk wiggers, could it be more obvious?
I love how feminist tried to sway it in a >I don't need no man way
When the moral of the story was that she completely was dependent on her male friends he symbolize the different types of men >hoggle the older man >ludo the brute >didymus the chivalry homosexual
All the different types of men who are usually associated with abusing young women. Are the ones that saved her.
yeah, it's complicated and difficult and you have to figure out which men in your life you can trust and which ones will protect and help you.
Jareth wasn't wrong though.
Total duality of women. >you cowered before me. I was frightening. >I am tired of living up to your expectations of me.
I am in utter disbelief when someone says this is a gay or woman movie.
If anything it's the ultimate movie to redpill your son on the accuracy of a woman's heart.
Jareth did not want to do anything evil to her.
Her budding sexuality made her believe HE was what she wanted.
you're being needlessly obtuse when the film is clearly about the struggles of teenage girls. Jareth as a character I think is there to represent the temptation of zero responsibility. He offers to take away the baby, which is a metaphor for her growing up and no longer being a child. He essentially offers her bliss and pleasure to live frozen in time. He might have loved her, or cared about her (in her current form) but she can't do it, she needs to grow up and change and can't be with someone like Jareth. Sometimes we have people that love us in our lives that are holding us back

I'm not being needlessly obtuse.
There is nothing subjective about the point I made.
It's not an open metaphor.
Sarah do to sheer lack of understanding of how the world actually works, her hatred of her stepmother, her pictures of her presumed dead mother in her room, her resentment of her brother, her anger at her father.
Conjured a potentially dangerous man who both frightens and thrills her.
This a direct comparison to all young women, who go out and date potential bad boys. Often times against their parents wishes.
They have to learn the lesson the hard way, because young women seem to be incapable of just understanding things.
Jareth was everything and did everything she wanted. That is fact.
While I understand your sentiment about growing up, it doesn't change the quite obvious comparison of a young girl who promises her heart to some dude on a motorcycle who is older and probably does drugs. Who has to learn the hard way this isn't healthy.
If you've ever met a woman in your life, you would know I am completely accurate in my assessment. Because that story is almost every single woman on the planets story.

BAD HEP
Reminder The Fire Gang are the most powerful creatures in The Labyrinth.
what did this scene even add to the movie
It's fun. Not everything is deep.
Stops the movie dead.
Would be perfect if it were a deleted scene we got to see years later
It might be ok if Jennifer sang or did something other than stand and gawp for three minutes.

Which is subtle irony when they consider her restrained and limited by her inability to rearrange her own limbs or remove her own head.
I think they're just confused as to why her limbs are all attached. Maybe I'm biased because I've always been a Fire Gang enjoyer but to me it seems like they literally did nothing wrong.

Guys I think it was just a silly dance scene.
nah read up on the lyrics
the fire gang being hooligan ball playin jazz cats trying to tear a girl apart is a little too on the nose.

why didn't lucas ever go back and improve the sfx like he did with star wars?
> George Lucas.

Terribly dated special effects, but they were my favourite characters as a kid.

So the Fire Gang are the middle eastern immigrants of Labyrinth?

Hate this fricking scene.
>millennials pissed and shit their pants over this scene
It's a showcase for puppetry while also confirming just how dangerous even 'friendly things' are in the Labyrinth
I was fascinated by them when I was young, they could swap heads and play football with them.
>Don't go that way! Never go that way!
Oh...thank you.
>Cor, if she'd have kept on goin that way, she'd find the exit to my rape dungeon.
i really enjoy this scene playing so perfectly into sarah's taking things for granted and not asking why you never go that way
This scene made me distrust a certain demographic
And that is?
mischievous fire demons
BAD LUCK
HAHAHA
I skip this every time.
Do their penises come off?
Does yours come off?
After I stroke it for a while.
>Eahhh? 'is nob don't come off???

GOOD TIMES
BAD FOOD
Just terrifying designs honestly
Nobody would ever think to make something that looks like that for a children's movie ever again
