They oughtta make a miniseries about the reigns of Phokas, John Tzimiskes, and Basil II. Or a biopic about Heraclius but make it an alt history where he defeats the Muslims
I think Phokas-Heraclius would actually be the only really suitable period to set a byzantium series.
The only really other suitable event for a series to focus on imo would be the first crusade, with Komneno Byzantium being a side attraction. Or maybe the Fourth Crusade.
A movie could maybe be made on one of the seiges of constantinople, though the concept of 'christians bravely resisting muslim conquerors' is not a popular standing point in todays media.
And Heraclius' reign would be one of the most adventurous to cover, but it's got such a bummer ending (although typical for Byzantine history) I think a miniseries about the Komemnos as a whole could work. Could make some comedic sideadventures with some Varangian guard people kinda like Vorenus and Pullo.

>Theodore I Laskaris
He had a fight with a Rum Sultan, Kaykhusraw. >As the sources narrate, at this moment of victory, the Seljuk sultan sought out Laskaris, who was hard pressed by the attacking Turkish troops. Kaykhusraw charged his enemy and gave him a heavy blow on the head with a mace, so that the Nicaean emperor, dizzied, fell from his horse. Kaykhusraw was already giving orders to his retinue to carry Laskaris away, when the latter regained his composure and brought Kaykhusraw down by hacking at his mount's rear legs. The sultan too fell on the ground and was beheaded. His head was impaled on a lance and hoisted aloft for his army to see, causing the Turks to panic and retreat.

Who would find interesting a media about such losers? Even modern greeks prefer to LARP as classical greeks over them
The first two were already invented in hellenistic times.
And the Reinassance started because byzantine scholars escaped their collapsing empire too busy in fynastic infighting to stop the trillions roaches landing on the Dardanelles (of which the first was litterally invited by a byzo prince to use as an ally for a byzantine civil war, KWAB). Not exactly something to be proud
