He wasn't entirely incompetent. He was a good conqueror, he could lead his biker horde to take Gas Town, Bullet Farm, he almost took the Citadel. He's a great villain because he clearly can't administer a wasteland society and that makes him extremely dangerous since it would be easy for him to destroy everything Joe created.
Like everything he represents is so dangerous that it forces you into Joe's camp despite him because just as much of a piece of shit, but better suited for leadership in wasteland civilization.

The end rant he has before Furiosa marches him back to the citadel really was the cherry on top. Also was that a seizure or him nutting when he got pistol whipped?
The ending and what happens to Dementus is entirely ambiguous since we're hearing the alleged fate from History Man narration. The seizure can be looked at as Dementus trying one last time to get out of the situation somehow, or maybe he actually had a seizure and died denying Furiosa her revenge so she makes up the most brutal way for him to go as a coping mechanism.

it's way better than Pajeet Road. the effects get pretty shit and maybe it's a little too slow for it's own good but it felt more like a mad max film than Fury Road. Cinemaphile was wrong, again. How surprising! Dementus was kino.

Honestly, it's not the perceived "wokeness" that was my problem, it was
a) replacing Mad Max in his own franchise with *any* other protagonist, female or otherwise
b) a trailer that showed a bunch of bad and / or unfinished effects instead of the madlad stunt driving and practical fx we would hope they carried over from Fury Road
c) a 2 and a half hour runtime which is at least 30 minutes longer than any Mad Max movie needs to be

Have you ever heard Miller talk about Max as a character? He doesn't think any of them are the same guy, and Fury Road it's not even based Mel. He's a co-star in what's allegedly his own movie. He has probably equal screen time with Furiosa and obviously way less lines. Furiosa is the entire driver of the plot.
