Cinema literally topped with this trilogy. The art form is dying now and I don't think it's making a comeback. Humans are too corrupted by the internet to write something as soulful again. This is it boys. It only gets worse from here.

These movies are just okay, op. They are god for the genre.
Two Towers at the kinoplex tonight. Fellowship got a good reception yesterday. I felt a sense of awe and wonder coming back from the theater. Grinning with strangers about how good it was.
Two towers is weak and Return of the King weaker still, only salvaged by its very ending. Both movies suffered from shitty action scenes.
Fellow is the only good one. 2 towers has the cool ent scene but normies won’t like it. And the way the return of the king’s battle on the city ends is not that good.
Is this some nationwide thing? I too am watching two towers at the theater tonight, and watched fellowship yesterday. Rotk is on monday, so I am not sure I will go to it.
i bet that if it was released today worldwide it would still break records
AMC Theaters is doing an event. Could be nationwide for them. Yeah, not sure about going on Monday.
People in the theater clapped when fellowship finished. What do you think about this fellow redditors? Is it cringe to clap for a movie?
Honestly there were so many kinos made in those days. Movie industry went to shit in the late 00s, then you only got shitty 40 years after sequels and remakes.
Bernard Hill and Viggo are the only reasons to watch Two Towers and RotK.
You know, there are a lot of scifi and fantasy stories out there, maybe they are not considered on par with Lord of the Rings, but you know, you could adapt them, as long as you don't make significant changes to the plot and characters, you just adapt the story. Lord of the Rings could be a template for how to do that. Just ignore all the previous adaptations of novels that have been made so far. For example, Wheel of Time, Shannara, Black Cauldron, Percy Jackson, Foundation, Dune, Artemis Fowl. But not even those. Just find something and adapt it. Some kitschy self published wannabe fantasy or scifi story on Amazon. Or a personal website. Or something in a Fantastic Stories magazine from fifty years ago. Just do something. Anything.
They were peak millenial slop, even Viggo thought they were trash
>slop
Name a better trilogy of movies then
you can't
gay
Most overrated set of flicks on Cinemaphile. Fellowship was decent as a film and as an adaptation, Two Towers shat the bed with it's second half so bad with atrocious pacing and detracted from the source material so bad it detrimentally effected the pacing of Return of the King.
Star Wars OT
Mad Max trilogy
Man With No Name trilogy
Indiana Jones
Men In Black
Sometimes I want to go through my monitor to the other side where people are writing this shit and strangle them to death.
Rest assured most of it is bait.
hollywood has up and down trends. quentin tarantino explained it in his book. i think we're due for a renaissance.
It occurs to me they came out at exactly the right time. There was good enough CGI that you could enhance big battle scenes but not enough to totally overwhelm the senses and thrust the whole film into the uncanny valley. A few israelites b***hed that they were racist but you were still allowed to have an all-white cast in the early 00's.
When did you realise you were witnessing peak cinema?
For me it was when Gandalf freefalled faster to catch up with his freefalling sword to have a midair CGI fight with a CGI creature and everybody in the cinema stood up and clapped.
I got chills. Truly the pinnacle of American art
>sword is less dense than flesh and is tumbling
>balrog is giant parachute
>wizard is ballistic
Problem?
Nice bait . This happens two hours in the movie after a you've grown attached to the characters. There's nothing wrong with epic battles if they are properly set up. Your argument work better against say the Hobbit which busts its not early ever two seconds because all it has to offer are epic CGI moments.
That scene was my introduction to Tolkien
Fellowship >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Two Towers >>>>>>>>>>> ROTK
Like just do all this. Go nuts.

TT and ROTK would've been a disaster without the re-shoots made possible with Fellowship's success.
I just reread the book(s) and the Fellowship movie is the only one that seems close to getting it right. The other two movies have their moments but have way too many epic massive CG battles, which were novel at the time I guess.
An adaptation made today would be an absolutely fricking mess though, so these movies are the best you're going to get.
Also The Hobbit and RotK animated movies from the 70s and 80s are underrated if anything (Bakshi LotR might be an acquired taste).
Also, Legolas fricking skateboarding and sliding down an Oliphants trunk like he's Fred Flintstone.
Why'd they make Gimli a quip machine?
>Why'd they make Gimli a quip machine?
they felt they needed comic relief so they turned Gimli into it for movies 2 and 3.
Picrel, Tolkien's notes about an early script for the movie. The Jackson trilogy would have given him an aneurism.
They turned him into comic relief which is pretty annoying (but expected, probably).
I like Tolkien's world but the guy's letters make him seem so fussy and condescending.
fantasy is written by autists, for autists. I'm not sure what you were expecting but things along the lines of GRRM's tax policy quote.
Speaking of autism, Martin was obviously just using hyperbole to talk about how he wanted to do a realpolitik fantasy story. He wasn't actually curious about Aragorn's tax policy, he was just pointing out that being good at killing orcs doesn't mean your kingdom will have a great economy etc.
Yep. You have to show things in movies, not infodump.
People forget that in 2001 normies didn't really have any concept of (non-Keebler) elves or orcs. And there wasn't a Hobbit movie people could watch first. Fellowship did an amazing job of worldbuilding and towed the line between appealing to established fans and bringing in the normoids.
Yeah autists can't seem to comprehend that the film adaptation can be considered it's own thing
almost all artists and novelists' writing have that effect. both Tolstoy and Dostoyevski would have been extremely embarrassing bloggers, and Wagner would have been cancelled.
dosto would have been some b***hute schizophrenic. his diaries are all about israelites taking over russia and the imminent return of christ to destroy socialism. he was an alcoholic gambling addict as well
Greatest trilogy ever and it will never be topped.
It had a few cringy moments, but it was amazing what they did at the time with the insane amount of real props, sets and practical effects compared to the Hobbit trilogy and any other "epic" movie nowadays.
The most insane thing is how the shitty Rings of Power season 1 cost more to make that the entire 12 hours LOTR trilogy even with inflation taken into account.
>orcslop
LotR, Pirates of the Caribbean and Sam Raimi's Spider-man all came out around the same time. Early 00's was a great time for blockbusters.
It’s sad that people are starting to deify christcuck morally black and white slop authored by israelite worshipers. You’re upset because the economy is bad, that’s it. All this bullshit about “purer times” is irrational nostalgia. Sort the government out, don’t live in pathetic fairytales designed to disassociate and dull your mind. Tolkien got traumatised in the somme and used christcuckery to enter a fake world and cope. He’s the reason the world is like it is now, people not living in reality
We got another closeted BAPist right here
so this... is the power... of atheism... very impressive
