Wasn't it like a year and a half between its announcement versus actually being able to view it? It was announced for TBS and then got put on HBO Max with little fanfare.
It is pretty boring overall. I mean, it's kinda the same formula as regular show and we already had regular show, towards the end I was already kinda sick of the same story being told again and again just asset flipping so I didn't really cared the much for more boring not regular show. Probably wasn't the only one.
It was an HBO max exclusive so nobody cared
I feel shows which are exclusive to one streaming service are doomed to fail >Except Netflix, but only because Netflix is huge
Yea it was severely lacking in focus on the main family. I get Quintel wanted a large main cast but Regular Show knew the main focus should be Mordecai and Rigby, and mixing who they interact with while doing the occasional spotlight episode on someone else's perspective. The whole park wasn't constantly battling for attention.
This one deviated too far and just specifically focused on the other characters with Josh and Emily barley appearing for a long time despite being the only reason I watched. Candace wasn't even that good for episodes about her, it was just "what if toddler but serious situation" like the mafia one and the "kids take over" plot. I did like the one where Emily is shrunken down to be a classmate of hers, but that goes back to what I was saying before, episodes about the other characters work better with Josh and Emily involved. The others could carry an occasional episode maybe but not as often as they tried.
I feel like after S1 the pressure was on him to focus on the more diverse characters rather than the *gasp* wholesome white family, that's why they got almost no episodes in S2 and S3 while the rest hogged the spotlight and the one remaining white male character was turned gay.
It just wasn’t popular enough, shame I think it was heading in the right direction with season 3 but the speak never really caught, at least it has a relatively happy ending with Alex and Bridget dating again.
Aside from Discovery going scorched earth on HBO titles, it just wasn't that interesting of a cartoon. I really enjoyed the first season, but after that I felt like I had seen everything the show had to offer.
-Poor pacing in season one due to last minute mandates from HBO. It's difficult to bounce back from a bad first impression.
-This show would have benefited from airing on tv. It's difficult to discover shows on streaming.
-Some characters were poor and felt like add-ons.
-In my opinion, overly large ensemble casts don't often work with episodic shows. If there were intertwining story arcs, I can become invested in them. But in an episodic series, it becomes difficult when it focuses on a character I don't like. It just feels like it's taking time away from the core characters.
-I can't shake the feeling the staff wanted a raunchier show, but were held back due to waffling at HBO.
I appreciated Close Enough for being a prime time cartoon that doesn't feel like a Family Guy/Simpsons clone. It was very funny when it worked, and it worked often in seasons 2-3. I didn't care for Randy or Pearle, they took more than they gave. I wanted more episodes that focused on the struggle of keeping the family together and making ends meet, and to that end Pearle and Randy might have worked better as occasional antagonists.
Agreed, although the mandates came from TBS prior to them figuring out where to place the show. There's still a lot of cut fully animated content we'll never see because of that, even the official twitter account gave an estimated runtime that was well longer than what was publicized.

Probably longer
That first season was also produced as 22 minute episodes that were then cut down to 11 minutes for HBOMax
Who makes cartoon for grown ups

Zaslav hates fun.
Just like Darkseid.

Too many side characters and not enough Josh, Emily, and Candace.

Could be worse
>red hair dad and blonde hair mom
>black haired son
OH SAY CAN YOU SEE
Any chance it might get a Tuca and Bertie treatment?
Randy being homosexual for no Reason.
Greek myth superhero analogy
It wasn't...
...CLOSE ENOUGH!

It needed more rape
It didn't had naked uncensored female buttcracks like Futurama
Discovery happened.

Well, it wasn't funny as Regular Show.
Quintel should've made Regular Show: Distant Lands instead

More like Close But No Cigar
