>Coined by Bill the Butcher (Daniel Day-Lewis) in the film Gangs of New York, when interrogating the man who tried to assassinate him. Possibly one of the most imaginative and lyrical insults of this century.
>You motherwhoring irish n-word... You see this knife? I'm gonna teach you to speak English with this fricking knife!
WTF? Is this what racism feels like? I don't like this fricking movie. Anti-Irish racism is not cool. Sorry, but my granda is Irish and I just can't take this. I like Scorses alot but this isn't alright.

irish in america were worse than blacks in every conceivable metric (brawling, theft, murder, average age of death, rioting, assaults, drunkenness, unemployment, making orphans, etc) for a very long time. But the irish-americans shaped-up (mostly) after they got enough local political power to give all of their unemployed cousins government jobs. To this day, there is still an overwhelming number of Irish-american police, firefighters, and government employed paper-pushers.

Agreed. I live in rural Minnesota and we're overrun with fricking Polacks, Honkies, and Norseiggers and Swedecucks. I fricking hate Eastern Yuro trash. Would rather be a neighbor to the red man's reservation than these nightmares.

Give an irishman a fish, he will use it to buy booze. Teach an irishman to fish, he will forget it after drinking the booze he just brought.
Anyway that’s how the famine happened.

    >tfw William "Fenian slayer" Poole beat up and humiliated John Morrissey, his irish american nemesis in a boxing match so hard that morrisey had to cowardly hire two people to shoot him to death
    the "fighting irish" everybody
also the movie made poole a twink played by daniel day lewis when in reality he was a 6'2 200 pound muscle bound heavyweight

what was with scorsese's love interests in the early 2000's cameron diaz in this and the vera farminga in the departed are both the worst parts of those movies.

I haven't seen the aviator in like 12 years so I don't remember the love interest in that movie

the studio forced him to use cameron diaz. he wanted to use an actress named sarah polley.

I hated this movie and never really understood why. It was super violent but also campy and the tone felt really uneven so much so that the point it was trying to make got lost. It was well made but I just didn't like it at all, and I love the actors, director and story material.

      >and the tone felt really uneven so much so that the point it was trying to make got lost
its problem is that dicaprio and cameron diaz are the main character and love interest, and are the worst parts of the cast

I think if you recut the movie and take out the romance plot entirely, it's pretty good.

I don't get the John C Reilly character. How did he switch sides like that and get away with it?

I’m hoping one day Scorcese will make a cut with the deleted scenes that makes Bill the main character
