the studio forced him to use cameron diaz. he wanted to use an actress named sarah polley.
I hated this movie and never really understood why. It was super violent but also campy and the tone felt really uneven so much so that the point it was trying to make got lost. It was well made but I just didn't like it at all, and I love the actors, director and story material.
I hated that it blueballed me out of the final gang fight.

its problem is that dicaprio and cameron diaz are the main character and love interest, and are the worst parts of the cast
I think if you recut the movie and take out the romance plot entirely, it's pretty good.
