>Columbus discovered America because he was trying to prove that Earth is round (even though everyone already knew that back then)

>Columbus discovered America because he was trying to prove that Earth is round (even though everyone already knew that back then)
>He actually didn't kill the indigenous people living there, he was a good guy even though he slaughtered millions of natives
>Columbus discovered Americans even though Columbus died still believing that he had reached Asia.

kek Ridley Scott was always a fricking moron.

DESU, they arrived in the post-apocalyptic mesoamerica, there was famine, disease and crumbling empires BEFORE the arrival.

Europeans coming in was the knock down blow though.

The "empire" was extremely primitive and fragile; the king, Montezuma, was an absolute ruler, a "god king" in the eyes of his people, his perception of the world was deeply flawed. His primary council - help in decision making, was magic wielders that could see the future in animal intestine and tried defeating the Spaniards casting curses etc. Which from Montezuma's perspective was something "real".
To give you an idea of the mental juggernauts we are dealing with, when Cortez came to Mexico City, Montezuma send out a body double to greet Cortez and give him gifts - and ask him to leave instead of entering the city.
The ruse was quickly discovered bc Cortez had multiple people that previously had met Montezuma.. But regardless, why would he send out a body double? the Spaniards where so few, Montezuma had a giant army at his back, the meeting itself was a "meet and greet" and wasn't dangerous.
It was just weird, everything Montezuma did was weird, because he was by all intend and purposes an alien.

Another one; the Spaniards "looted" Mexico City extensively with the aid of Montezuma and the rest of the city. Literally ran around collected everything of value and gave it to the Spaniards..
Eventually they rose up against the Spaniards, for something completely unrelated, that had nothing to do with the looting. Mainly that the Spaniards forbade them to do human sacrifice.. that wasn't the straw that broke the camels back, it was a concrete block dropped on the back.

      They weren't

      >natives
      They weren't

2-3 other groups stake claim to being the first to North America. The indians that were there at the time have no proof they were the first tribes. Likely they wiped out other tribes who already wiped out other tribes, and so on.

Asiatic peoples weren't even the first people to come to America, those people were Caucasoid. The Mongoloid Asiatics that you know today are nothing like the ones that crossed the land bridge.

Just once I want a historical film that treats everyone involved like they are as stupid as everyone is today and highlights all the dumb shit they got up to. Columbus was a screwball huckster high enough in the pecking order he could shop around his idea of sailing west to reach the east to several kings until the king of Spain agreed to fund the whole thing, but only because he was worried someone else was going to beat him to the punch. He proceeds to actually fricking land somewhere new to the Eurpoeans, and spends the rest of his days milking the idea that he totally knew what he was doing the whole time and didn't get lucky there was another continent half way between where he thought he was going.

Same thing with how the American Revolution is about freedom and not King George looking at "we just payed HOW MUCH to defend our colonies? Maybe we should ask them to help pay that." Only for the wealthy local elite to say "haha no" and then turn to the FRICKING FRENCH, the buttholes they were just in a war with to help them be enough of a pain in the ass that Britain says "frick it", only for the French to turn around and say "Holy shit that WORKED?" Lets do us next! Cut off everyone's head, Napoleon rises to power, briefly considers expanding Louisiana east over what was formerly the colonies, gives up on the idea when fricking Haiti manages to succeed in THEIR rebellion, leading Napoleon to sell the whole fricking thing to Thomas "Jungle Fever of Independance" Jefferson when he was just trying to buy New Orleans.

The funniest thing about American Independence is that the whole thing started when a black guy was shot by cops in Boston after chimping out. Their whole revolutionary war and existence as a nation is a #handsupdontshoot #BLM #dindinuffin protest.

    This but unironically
Let's be real, what exactly would the "precious natives" been doing for the next 600~ years if based columbus didn't drag them into civilisation. Being mud eating savages? We all know what happened was a net positive.
