Comfy Godzilla thread.
Have a couple o' question for you lads
>Where do you think Monsterverse is heading and do you like the direction?
>Favourite movies/periods & most kino scenes?
>Is there any quality Goji/Kaiju in general vidya in foreseeable future?
>Will Toho make anything soon?
I personally didn't like the tone GvK set up for following media. Besides visuals it was the weakest MV movie.
My favourite period is Heisei, the most soulful period with plentiful kino moments.
I love post 2014 monsterverse, but I miss when Godzilla was still a 60 foot allegory on the consequences of nuclear power rather than just simply Popcornkino.
>60 foot
really homie?
>I love post 2014 monsterverse
Kong and KotM are bretty good, the main issue I have with GvK is that it's Transformers tier with bare minimum plot
>I miss when Godzilla was still a 60 foot allegory on the consequences of nuclear power rather than just simply Popcornkino.
Fortunately TOHO seems to have their hands busy
>No idea but I think that Apple+ series is a waste of time and effort.
It'll likely focus on humans with kaijus just occasionally popping up, so yeah.
>Showa
The later movies are a bit too goofy for my taste, but respectable
>Just play Godzilla Battle Line on mobile since it's being made in-house by Toho's new vidya department.
Decent phone game, vastly supperior to other ones, however Clash Royale isn't what I have in mind.
>GvK
Goji certainly had more personality than in 2014, but I still like KotM better. Another issue I have with it is that they threw shit in as they went, as some points the plot seems almost improvised, same goes for Oxygen destroyer in KotM.
Yeah. I enjoy them for what they are. Godzilla works as both serious cinema and a popcorn flick which makes the franchise flexible.
It was really great. I'm glad someone actually did a movie with Godzilla politics in it.
>someone actually did a movie with Godzilla politics in it.
godzilla 1984 has a fair bit of cold war politics in it
godzilla 1990 had the tax building in tokyo blown up by godzilla or ghidorah
True, but I mean like how Shin Godzilla has an actual focus on how how would work in Japan and how it became a question of accountability at some point.
How did you feel about Shin Godzilla?
As someone who grew up VHSes of the goofy 60s and 70s Godzilla movies I thought it was [spoilers]an excellent disaster movie allegory even though it removed all the personality from Godzilla.
I think Japs have no idea what to do with Goji. Just look at the state of Shin and Godzilla animes
>I think Japs have no idea what to do with Goji.
They experimented with and it wasn't too great, so they seem to be prepping up a more tradinional film.
>Just look at the state of Shin and Godzilla animes
The anime was quite flawed, but what's with Shin? It seemes decent as a callback to the original with horror elements and political message, while also TOHO dipping their toes in new water.
Thr movie was indeed great but not a fan of ShinGoji itself. It mutating to human forms was going too far
>It mutating to human forms was going too far
made sense since it was a mutant incorporating dna of life it encountered, there's a whale skeleton in the tail, fish gills initially, eyes were like a deep sea fish for form 1 and 2, eyes had protective cover like sharks
it incorporated the missing man from the yacht who suicided
>It mutating to human forms was going too far
That was just le spooky mysterious ending it didn't actually mean anything.
it did mean something
goro maki suicided because he was ignored and driven out of japan, he merged with the godzilla tadpole and came back to tokyo for revenge and helped it evolve into a humanoid form and later forms sprouting off the tail
or maybe godzilla stepped on a few humans during his tour and their dna got incorporated
Or Shin was adapting in response to what he was facing.
>Group of beings stopped you
>Become a group of beings
someone should ask anno to explain everything or he wont be allowed to make another movie again
Good luck with that.
I actually like that it’s vague. It’s more fun to speculate.
>He doesn't know
Shin Godzilla was incredibly popular in Japan.
King Ghidorah has never actually defeated Godzilla ever. Mothra on the other hand...
do you think Monsterverse is heading and do you like the direction?
No idea but I think that Apple+ series is a waste of time and effort. Supposedly Wingard is already committed to directing the next movie, which is a good thing IMO.
movies/periods & most kino scenes?

iirc they are on track to make a Godzilla reboot movie set in the 40's. It'll be the first Godzilla movie that's a period piece rather than being set contemporary to the film's premiere in the real world.
>I personally didn't like the tone GvK set up for following media. Besides visuals it was the weakest MV movie.
I thought it was the best MV movie, and I liked the tone of it. It made Kong into a real hero for the first time, and it finally gave Godzilla some personality after he had just been a giant walking plot device for the previous two movies.
>My favourite period is Heisei, the most soulful period with plentiful kino moments.
This but Showa.
look what I found
dubbed, but eh, you can at least send it to normies to watch
Thanks for the links, I'm currently re-watching the Japanese ones.
they're dubbed, so I can only half recommend them
KKvG has a few edits similar to gojira 1954 where they add scenes for americans to understand
but they're perfect for spamming everyone you know, are toho godzilla films even on netflix?
I wish toho wasn't so overprotective of gojira clips, there used to be a lot of good clips online but they removed them, even their own trailers as if they're scared of people discovering and liking godzilla
>GvK
here's the superior film
Unfair comparison since no movie made in the current year will ever have something as based as Japanese kids in blackface smoking cigarettes.
did it have that?
I haven't seen it in a long time
all I remember is this
and the fantastic final fight
KINO
when I wake up in the morning
Absolute kino.
Honest it pains me that we will never get proper Ghidorah fight scene again like we had with GvK. KotM's editing was terrible
>KotM's editing was terrible
It really felt like that movie was just made based on the rough draft with zero refinement in any aspect. I didn't hate it, but I just thought that there was a lot to be desired. GvK was a much better-made movie IMO. Dougherty should stick to being on the "creative team" or whatever instead of directing.
The ending was lackluster, the fight itself was very entertaining and in some aspects excels Heisei beam wars.
Ghidorah BTFO'ing JSDF jets was pure KINO, however.
the only one that matters
and this
and this
Check'um
No ghidorah. No money from me. Simple. Ghidorah is better than Godzilla
>gangrapes you
You picked the wrong planet, fool
anons, show us what you dreamed about
if I won the lottery I'd make my own traditional man in suit kaiju film
Baragon CUTE
>tfw no giant irradiated qt3.14 with comically large ears and a horn
That’s awesome.
I dig the Monsterverse. I don’t care where it’ s headed as long as there are more frickhuge kaiju duking it out along the way.
THE FRICKING STRONGEST.
Cool desing, a bit too anthropomorphic. Love the felinesque face. I used to dislike FW for it's cheesiness, but I've grown to adore it.
However, the best Millenium design is picrel
