Sin city
I don't think I've come across a comic with incredible story but terrible art.
I have to really think about it.
These all have good to great art.
I thought of one: Eddie Campbell's Bacchus.
I like Eddie Campbell's art in From Hell, but a lot of the art in Bacchus isn't quite as good. Meanwhile, it's a blast to read. Also, this run has other contributors that don't always work either. I'm not a fan of ILYA in this book.
holy shit a good comic mentioned on Cinemaphile
For the average consumer there's no functional difference between "bad art" and "art I don't like". Cinemaphile tends to take things further also blurring the line between the latter and "art I would fap to".
Safest bet for this topic is probably webcomics. Doc McNinja kinda comes to mind; it's a fricking blast to read but the art at most manages to transition from "terrible" to just "awkward" in the newer material.
What's Chris Hastings up to these days anyhow
The art's the best thing about it.
All Star Superman
Literally any Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely collaboration
Quitely's a good draftsman he just loves depicting everyone and everything with wrinkly scrotum textures.
Morrison is ass
This
The art is great.
Sorry I can't agree. It's like everyone in it has wrinkly foreskin flesh.
Cool, what about the paneling, the story telling, the body language, the composition?
Oh wait I gorget no one on Cinemaphile cares about hat shit you all just wanna see pretty digitally painted anime faces.
/co/'s dream comic would be one of those artgerm motherfrickers doing a bunch of pages of posed pinup paintings.
Considering how it's a character piece first and foremost I'd say character designs is the most important factor in the story. And the characters just look bad.
Yes not pretty enough. They should all look PRETTY when characters suffer loss they should make pretty crying faces, get that fricking ugly humanity out of here.
Supes looks like a fricking gorilla there lmao
Anyways no need to personally get offended that I think it looks ugly. Unless the artist is your grandfather or something you should work on your anger issues a tad
I see where the guy you replied to is coming from. Your reasons for considering the art bad come off as kind of petty. That's going to piss some people off, you should know.
To me it looks great, and Quitely is great in general, though I know not everyone will agree. I still don't think it belongs in a thread like this calling for examples of "terrible art".
Absolutely. The art is 98% of the reason I hate All Star.
From hell
I was gonna say the dark knight saga too but I guess I have to like the story in the first place
This one I agree on. From Hell is just too roughly drawn for my liking. Looks unfinished.
I bought the colorized version of From Hell simply so I could always tell which character is which.
NOOOOO I find the coloured version is even worse lmao
Nothing could save the art but a complete redraw. I just want to know which Brit is which.
I hated it at first but it grew on me a lot by the end. I think the transition from simple art to some of those big elaborate pages of Gull’s visions really sell it.
Not that one, obviously.
Attack on Titan
>AoT
>good story
Are ya sure?
was this a legit translation of that page or is it a edit to troll
Legit
AoT jumped the shark when they revealed who the Colossal and Armored titan were. I watched Alternate History Hub's summary of the lore and couldn't believe how stupid it was.
So season 2?
Who?
The Boys
>The Boys
You forgot the part about a good story
The story isn't incredible. Mostly the character writing is strong.
Nice art.
McKean should have drawn the interiors.
The epitome of this is Neil Gaiman's Sandman. 90% of it is rubbish art, like he invited his bohemian friends over and gave each of them a chapter to doodle.
The visuals completely carry it though.
That looks great though
It's just a lot of meandering lines. Its nothing more than a doodle.
That’s not super appealing, but this
Looks great. The lines don’t look “meandering” at all.
I assume they just tried competent but not particularly "star-quality" artists with it banking on how the weird kinda ec-comics-y styles would compliment the stories. And also kinda foolproofed the product as a whole with the avant-garde covers by McKean. who was already popular for Arkham's Asylum
Once the series blew up he started getting more crowd-pleasing artists for the stories themselves too.
>Once the series blew up he started getting more competent artists
Fix'd. None of the later Sandman artists were mainstream fixtures in the Big 2, they were just of a higher caliber.
You have shit taste
No U.
Sam Kieth wasn't a very good match for sandman but he left after a couple of issues, I think he's a great artist though
and then you had a bunch of artists throughout the series, I wouldn't say 90% of it is bad, but it can be a little inconsistent, sure
and no, I'm fairly sure karen berger, his editor was the one assigning him his artists, specially at the beginning when he wasn't very well known
You need both anon...a story is worthless without good art.
You don't read books?
We're talking about comics. The art is a major part of the storytelling.
I would say Long Halloween, but the ugly designs there are a choice, not due to lack of artistic skill. And Overtime, I've actually grown to like the art quite a lot.
The art in the long halloween is amazing. People who don't like it don't understand that comics don't all have to look the same.
Damn, Catwoman is built.
Sale has always been obviously good for me.
The art in The Long Halloween is good, although Sale isn't good with faces (the killer "reveal" was ruined by nobody being able to tell who it was).
It's the writing that is shitty, you can tell the "mystery" from a mile away. TLH is also just a bad comic in general, meant for the casual crowd don't understand comic style writing and prefer comics written by failed TV writers instead.
>that buff catwoman
Hello barely disguised fetish
Dragon ball super shartnga
Rags Morales obliterating Morrison's Action Comics, easily. Imagine it with his usual bench of like Quitely, Burnham, Stewart, Irving etc. It would be a classic run, rather than a visual abortion.
Funny that nobody complains about Rags Morales nearly as much as they complain about Quitely, even though Quitely is a far superior artist.
It's kind of true already. Look how much praise those DC manga get despite looking like ass.
Igor Kordey New X-Men
Howard Porter JLA
after I learned that Kordey had to pump a full issue per week I forgave him, it wasn't his fault
Threads like these make me realize that Cinemaphile would prefer comics if they just looked like any random inoffensive manga
Batman/Nightwing: Bloodborne
The style is cool, but the overall execution doesn't work. I wouldn't call the story incredible either.
most of Neil Gaiman's Sandman
Really?
Basically everything by Frank Miller.
Even in the rare times he got to work with a good penciler & inker, his wife's shitty coloring skills ruined the product.
>his wife's shitty coloring skills
You have no clue what you're talking about. Varley at his peak was a better colorist than the shitty capeshit colorists that color him now.
Varley's only "Crime" was DKSA, where Miller specifically wanted her to use all the photoshop effects to imitate how old golden early silver age colors were handled by non-artists laying down random colors.
Anatomically correct, homosexual.
That picture moves his right arm. Look how it doesn't line up with the shield now. Then it added a whole arm that Liefeld didn't even draw.
Rob forgot to move Cap's left arm to achieve that effect
or maybe he found out later that Cap has a left arm
The arm placement is what achieves the weird chest perspective, so it is still bad anatomy because Cap's arms are presumably off to his sides.
Batman and Robin grant Morrison.
Not talking about the Quitely issues.
Tails Gets Trolled
anything with art by Jeff Lemire I suppose
Preacher. I'm sorry, I just don't like Steve Dillon.
But do you think the art in Preacher is terrible?
Kinda? I just hate the way he draws faces.
>Kinda?
Doesn't really belong in this thread then, does it?
Mind MGMT.
Pretty awesome story, but the art was so bad I dropped it after one volume.
I liked that they brought a bunch of forgotten characters back for the Star-Lord mini back in the early 2000s, but I didn't much care for the art. Especially Football Head Rocket.
co has some bad art takes, holy shit.
Cinemaphile in general does
Something is Killing the Children. Maybe the story goes to shit later on, I’ve only read the first dozen issues, but I’d describe the art as functional at best.
Batman: Year Two
