Western character writing is just stronger because we make it where you understand who a character is inside and out vs Eastern character writing tends to be more just characters in a story giving off their personalities and reacting to things. It's why like a kid show like Recess has more complex characters than an high school anime even though both about kids in school but in Recess even though they're basic you know those characters inside and out. It has do with cultures Japan more closed off people vs US more open.
Manga fans are too stuck in their manga ways,so oh well I guess their lost but all best manga/anime tend to have more western style character writing like Bebop and Berserk being big two.

I own both the Watchman movie and the Watchman motion comic, I prefer manga.

Because Western comics are about characters, manga characters are generally more blank slates for self insertion purposes. If we imagine that manga and comics aren't the same medium then comics should have better characters by default

western comics could absolutely compete with manga... if they actually wanted to. Western companies primary goal is to spread anti white and pro LGBTP propaganda, not sell copies.
The fact that scam shit like rippaverse gets so much attention proves there is a huge untaped market for non pozzed comics, it's just a question of finding a organization that could produce the material without getting infiltrated or sued by the same ~~*cancer*~~ that ruined most other companies.

90% of both manga and comics are shit. There are diamonds in both industries. Read some independent western comics. They're just as good as some of the best manga. Everyone compares manga to DC and Marvel shit, but capeshit has always been throwaway garbage (with a few exceptions).

I have yet to find a manga as fully satisfying and good as Watchmen, and I've been reading manga for over a decade.
The only stuff that's ever come close for me is Naoki Urasawa's works, like 20th Century Boys or Pluto.
Urasawa is very good, but not quite Watchmen level.
Pluto may thematically and spiritually be closest thing Japan has to Watchmen.
