It's a show where one character needs to say "You just FRICKED me" at least once every episode, and somehow they kept this going for years.

It really was the same thing over and over and over, in terms of the dialogue and the actual plot. If Roman or someone seemed dead in the water, you just needed to wait one episode and they would've made some deal with some other contender and gotten back into a competitive position. I dropped it at S3E2.

Father owns big corporation through competence and hard work. Starts getting ill and dementia. Has a bunch of shitty incompetent kids who all want to take over for him and they frick eachother over to make them look unworthy of "succession" all the while the father has no intention of giving it to any of them because they are all pieces of shit.

        >the father has no intention of giving it to any of them
wouldn't that be obvious from the start? it's not the 1850's the board of directors would select a new CEO probably somebody from outside of the company

He lies anon, just like they all do to eachother. And there is a board of directors he's also manipulating.
It is a very complex show, worth watching if you like that kind of thing, but I'm not saying it's sopranos tier and I'm not even a huge sopranos fan. It's decent in an indecent time.

Describe what makes it smart for me because I found it incredibly low-IQ. "Haha, rich people are terrible and always plotting to steal from one another" is good for an episode but doesn't make a show.

      THIS

They used technical jargon so much it sounded like they were planning to rob a bank. That made the ending hilarious because it didn't even work.

Succession is Donald Trump: The TV show. "I will talk fast and namedrop to look smart when really I'm living off my father's actual hard work."

        Anonymous

I watched half an episode total btw. I know bullshit when I see it. No one talks in constant fricking jargon like that unless they're actively making a contract or writing legislation or a writing a textbook. It's very transparent. All the writers did was take normal ideas and "smart up" them.

        >Normal
"Todd is gonna be late this afternoon because he stubbed his toe making a pie."

        >Smart up version
"Todd's entry will be behind his initial Q1 projection due to his inability to leverage 10% of his phalanges against a bearish Ashley Furniture sofa during his push to increase the temperature of his apple pie revenue channels, specifically pie crust, apples, cinnamon, and nutmeg."

Facts my guy. The writers threw out all believability and plot progression after season 2 because they clearly hated Kendall and wanted to torture his character for lulz. The show should have ended in 3 seasons but they belabored it for “muh family drama” which was really the weakest part of every episode.

          >something bad needs to happen to good people for that
I disagree. A tragedy can also be a bad person who doesn't realize it getting their comeuppance or just the downfall of a nuanced character, good or evil. I wouldn't call Macbeth a good person, but his story was meant to be tragic. In the case of Succession, sure all the Roy kids get billions on the way out, but none of them got what they truly desired (with the possible exception of Roman).

The show completely jumped the shark after season 1. It was like they planned a single season and then had to scramble to milk it once they found out it was actually popular. Completely loses sight of its characters, everyone talks like a fricking Redditor, and the conflict just circles the same three issues ad nauseum without ever making interesting commentary or even, at the very fricking least, presenting a compelling narrative. Season 1 was a great time, though.
