It’s called “blacklisting” and it is very real and has always existed. It’s also called “being a bad investment” in which an artist/actor/performer/producer is financially more destructive to a company or studio than they are worth. People aren’t cancelled over what they said, they’re cancelled over being a net loss.

Being “cancelled” isn’t always permanent but for some people it is. You can’t come back from some things but other things you can. That’s why it’s best to ignore public outrage and not apologize, you lose when you engage whether or not if you’re innocent.

But yes, cancel culture is real, but it is heavily exaggerated by some people who use it for literally every HR firing. Louis CK is blacklisted because of when he was accused, and now he has to use his own money to make his content and also use his own platform. Rosanne Barr and many others are also blacklisted, not just because of what she said but also because she wasn’t worth it. Kevin Hart? Not blacklisted. Why? Because he handled it well and never apologized more than once, and black audiences in particular love him. He’s still worth it.

That’s how to view this shit. It’s like stocks.

It's weird to see that. Do americans accept the "i did my time" stuff? He stayed like 3 years for that HUE, even if you don't believe that rape = rest of your life in prision, I doubt 3 years look fine for anyone.

I thought at least at some level you people had the "blind justice" concept in your morals. I know the system is corrupt, but damn

Can't a man ever move on from his past?

Americans have this thing of "once a criminal, always a criminal", and people convicted of felonies will suffer for the rest of their lives, both systemically and socially.

The dude is fricking rich and has a big podcast, receiving famous people like bill burr and snoop dog, I want to suffer like that.

and even celebrities like willian shatner go to his podcast without caring two damns about the shit he did. God, I don't believe in cancel culture, but it's hard to see all those people just ignoring that the guy is a literal rapist, why people don't go after this guy like they do with web celebrities who said mean things?

He is or was a national treasure during his prime, it's kind of hard to bring someone like that down

Chris Pratt, while not being a national treasure, had been getting shit for years over a comment he made about his second wife giving birth to a healthy baby boy and twittertards believed he was taking a jab at his first wife who gave birth to a sickly child. Then people were upset about the Church they all thought Pratt went too.
Didn't hurt his career at all and in ended up landing two VA roles voicing iconic characters branching different medias
The shock when people found out none of what he was accused of was true

It's easier to shit on the guy on the internet because he's both weak and lacks a social standing but to bring down a celebrity with years of good will isn't something the common moron is capable of

Because people recognize that shit is in the past. He's trying to be a better man.

You can't just shrug mistakes with "it's in the past" shit, anon, you can do shit and wake up next day as jesus himself, that doesn't exclude the need for paying for your crimes. And the guy didn't pay shit, saw people stay in jail and got life more ruined by not paying their taxes right. Prisions are not just about redemption and trying to be better, sometimes the price for your mistakes is far greater than anything you can do.

moron if he was guilty you'd have a point but I'm glad the innocent man got off with a short sentence he shouldn't have gotten any sentence but the legal system is fricked up like that some times

He served his time in prison, and is no longer a threat to society apparently.

Mike Tyson is actually extremely lucky to be in the situation he's in. It's a miracle he still has a career, but the thing is, 99.9% of people won't have that luxury.
This actually applies to cancel culture as a whole, people always focus on the rich well established celebrities, but the real problem is what happens to the little people who don't have as much to fall back, who aren't well known for anything except what got them cancelled.
Mike Tyson is known as a world boxing champion first and foremost. If he was just Mike Tyson the regular guy convicted of rape, it would be a different story.

This, being convicted just once can greatly ruin your chances of success. It's why so many people freakout when they're getting cuffed because it can totally be over for them.
Some people need that second chance but won't ever get it and will just actually fall down a rabbit hole forever

It was sex with regret and one of the rare cases where he probably both got convicted and got released early to everyone pretending it didn't happen because of race.

He's been in all sorts of shit subsequently and dredging up the sketchiness of his conviction during the #metoo era would have of if anything gotten people stopping the whole "believe all women" thing a few years sooner.

Some people, especially older women, still think he's a rapist but anyone who wasn't in their 20's when he was rape ape just knows him as the ear biting black guy pop culture reference. Which is why he has 4 seasons of an adult swim show.

He was convicted but not guilty much like OJ Simpson was guilty but not convicted and you don't see his ass getting a TV show any time soon because we're all well aware of what he did. I'd hope the majority are aware of what Mike Tyson didn't do.
