Yes, absolutely. Always felt that the adaptation of WoT needs to be bright and colorful.

Long as they make the women characters not the biggest c**ts in the universe. I got to book 4 before I threw my hands up in the air and gave up. I don't know if the author was terrible at writing for females but the content loop of them was 1. Get pissy 2. I'm right and smarter 3. Fall a bit more in love with one of them 4. Look at mat as the scum of the earth. The Smith boy of the trio got the best girl of the bunch.

It's been a bit since I dropped it but the characters being c**ts stuck with my brain.

It is very funny you think Faile is somehow the best girl. And no, the women never get better. The author had some weird takes on gender politics.

Animation is the only way WOT could get properly adapted.

It would have to be Japanese or French though, american animation is terrible.

The Aes Sedai are noted as fricking moronic through the entire series though. Even their breakaway factions. He does a good job of showing that but has no idea how to do romance.

Yeah, the WoT fandom literally warns new readers that at least 3-6 books in the series are complete filler and worth skipping. An adaptation inherently has to butcher the story to make it tolerable for a modern audience.

But more than that, I think the biggest issue with Wheel of Time is that the story is too generic and stock fantasy. The worldbuilding has interesting aspects but those are better executed or explored in other series
      >Politicking?
      ASOIAF
      >Protagonist is the chosen one but he goes insane because of it?
Dune (and they don't pussy out of the consequences in that series.)
      >A matriarchal setting where women rule the world?
      Unironically Barbie or Adventure Time.
      >BDSM fetish shit?

I heard that Robert Jordan (the author) grew up in a house of mostly women.

Robert Jordan literally admitted that he based all the female characters on his wife

I don't think anyone argues that WoT is otherwise well written, just that it's pretty ambitious in terms of scope. Jordon's weird gender dichotomy has been very noted.

This only makes it like Holdo or Teela, where giving flaws does not fix the girl boss never being humbled and coming out on top regardless

The story is way too split for a proper adaptation. Dune barely got there and they had to cut out everything involving CHOAM and the Navigator's Guild. WoT is spinning way more plates than that.

Paul doesn't really go insane, he just realizes that he absolutely lost control of the future he saw that he knew was bad but thought he could control. He just completely dips out when he realizes he fricked it all up.

Also the Aes Sedai don't control the WoT world. They have a grip on power in the current setting of the story, but it's pretty clear that it's all cyclical and they're gonna' lose it sooner rather than later. That's kind of the point of the setting.

    Yes.

I always thought that live-action adaptations of books are worse than if they were adapted as a cartoon/anime. You would have to worry about costs, special effects, aging actors, the their resemblance to characters in the books, and various other issues. I never understood why people prefer live-action adaptations (I don't understand why most people would watch a live-action series but not watch it if it's the same series in animated form).

                >Why do I like these
Stockholm syndrome, you've invested too much time in the series despite it being shit and there being better alternatives. Wheel of Time is the pyramid scheme of epic fantasy, it's own fans will admit that it's shit and you have to read past 2000 pages just to get to some of the good parts.

I read most of them on planes. I don't really think they're good but part of them are at least formative. I'd never do it again bust I do have a soft spot for Mat and Rand.Rand going through the weird future vision and Mat almost dying is a neat bonding idea.

The difference is that Mark's rape was played for drama whereas Mat's rape was played for comedy.

I remember thinking that at least 3-4 Forsaken could have been condensed into one character. There at least 3 or 4 seperate characters whose whole deal is that they were once Lews Therin's bff whose a master swordsman but then they got jealous of his talents and popularity and joined the dark side. At least two of them literally get introduced then immediately die without much fanfare.

      >I never understood why people prefer live-action adaptations (I don't understand why most people would watch a live-action series but not watch it if it's the same series in animated form).
For the same reason America decided in the 20th Century that animation was only mostly for babies and the few that were for adults were raunchy comedies.

Animation just turns most people off and streaming services or networks that are attempting to adapt epic fantasy series are aiming for the mainstream audience.

Perrin was always white. Or maybe not. It barely matters because he stops existing for so many books. He could be black or whatever. It really doesn't matter.
