Carl Weathers claimed he started roiding during the filming of Predator, which was a year or two after filming Rocky IV. Watch both films back to back, you can see the difference.
I want to see a Rocky where they build up the story to crazy hype and then it ends when the MC fails to make weight. As the credits roll there's just screenshots of people making fun of him on social media.
Well, in the first movie he goes from a hardened legit fighter into a showman. They make a point of him avoiding coffee when training for a fight, but when he lines up the Rocky fight he treats it like a joke and enjoys morning coffee while reading the paper and worrying about his image, juxtaposed with Rocky running in shit weather in dirty alleys.
Creed was a legitimately great fighter. Pride, hubris, and the industry got to him obviously. Drago was massive even without the roids and Apollo didn't take the risks seriously. Prime Creed I would say is a better technical boxer than rocky but doesn't have Rocky's grit.
Rocky even says as much in the Adonis sequels that Creed was an outboxer with good technique and speed but none of the willingness to actually trade blows, and that Adonis would have to scrap more like Rocky to handle larger opponents. Overall Rocky and Apollo are equals and this doesn't seem like a controversial stance.
whoever faught Drago in the US first, was gonna get rekt, add on top of that that Apollo got him mad. In any case, Rocky was the more appropriate fighter to face someone like Drago.
I was pleasantly surprised. They keep the formula and stick to the boxing. Pretty good movies. Haven't seen the 3rd yet though.
You say it's better than 2? Heard sly wasn't in it at all.
The first film was directed by Coogler, so I think in terms of "artfulness" it's the most stylistic. Rocky isn't in the 3rd movie but honestly the antagonist played by that canceled dude Majors steals the whole show. I don't care much for a lot of the drama in Rocky but their conflict really gives the film a lot of juice. It's a personal issue and you don't fond much room to squeeze Rocky in when you see it. Give it a chance.
But yeah I really don't care for the second Creed movie at all. It feels the most basic and formulaic out of all of them and the familial drama really bogs that one down.
Sly not being in it isn't necessarily a deal breaker for me. I just thought him being involved might have kept it from going off the rails into some race baiting bs culture war crap that all movies seem to do.
If they stick to the formula and just have a boxing movie I'm game.
Clubber's thing is provoking people outside the ring to make them lose their composure inside it. I doubt that strategy would make any difference to his chances with Drago, who just brute forces his way through his matches.

Drago was so stoned Clubber's taunts wouldn't have had an effect on him, I absolutely agree. He only started breaking the conditioning near the end of his fight with Rocky because he seemed to actually be enjoying it and feeling like a real fighter for either the first time ever or at least in a very long time.
I remember seeing a doc about some British boxer and when he was asked which boxing films he enjoyed, he said he felt Raging Bull was the best and most authentic, and he didn't mention Rocky at all.

Southpaw is pretty good. It's a straight-up drama with plenty of grim events. It's funny that they used several poses from it in Road House.
I retired after 1 win, and i think they're good. It's just a simple feel good story about working hard and achieving success. Push your limits and don't give up etc
Even fights that go the distance don't last nearly as long because there aren't as many rounds. I can't think of a boxing movie that doesn't at least use 10 round matches. It's a really easy way to draw out drama.
>boxing
Two western men slugging it out. No cheap shots, no kicking (leg day is for homosexuals to improve their ass), constant eye contact, won by skill as much as determination and mind games. >muay thai
Slippery little japBlack folk and street chinks rolling around and feeling the other dud's boner on their thigh
All the action takes place above the belt, so it makes it easier to frame the action for close ups and getting facial expressions while the fight's going on, making it more emotional.
You also get corner moments between rounds to give the fighters more character, and they have to be slumped over and bloodied, so it drives home their die hard conviction, makes it really good for pacing a fight scene.
How do you rank all the boxers power level wise? >Rocky (1-2) >Apollo >Rocky (3 after Apollo training) >Clubber Lang >Ivan Drago >Rocky (4) >Tommy Gunn >Rocky (old) >Mason Dixon >Adonis >Ricky Conlan >Viktor Drago >whoever the bad guy was in Creed III
depends on which decade the movie was made
I can't remember, didn't drago cheat in both fights?
He had metal shit in his gloves?
No he was just roided out the ass like every other eastern bloc athlete.
I would still call that cheating, but I just be thinking of another movie. I could have sworn he put an brick in his glove or something.
No, but they shouldn't even be in the same weight class
exhibition match
To the death.
that difference isnt anything special for the heavyweight divisiob
Dolph Lungren made a fricking amazing Punisher
Rocky was about 200 in peak condition. He could fight cruiserweight or HW.
no that was laurel and hardy
op pic is obviously natty

>didn't drago cheat in both fights?
If roids are cheating the yes. In the ring itself, no.

My 600lbs life will scratch that itch anon.
Threads are on Wednesday nights iirc
Do they chase buckets of fried chicken around the yard?
I bet that was funnier in your head. Inb4 troon rage
Eye of the Tiger playing the whole time.
He tried and died in rocky iv
No. Creed was a showman even at his best. He didn't get how hard he'd need to train to defeat Drago.

Creed in his prime is the best boxer in the series and clears anyone.
>prime apollo or old man balboa
yeah i think that's easy to answer
whoever faught Drago in the US first, was gonna get rekt, add on top of that that Apollo got him mad. In any case, Rocky was the more appropriate fighter to face someone like Drago.
Somewhat unrelated but the Adonis sequels are actually pretty good. The 1st and 3rd are excellent Creed II is pretty bad in comparison.
I was pleasantly surprised. They keep the formula and stick to the boxing. Pretty good movies. Haven't seen the 3rd yet though.

How would Clubber have fared?
canonically loses to Drago in the video game and almost dies
Prediction? Pain
Apollo sneed Drago dood in twee
How do actual boxers feel about the Rocky movies?
I remember seeing a doc about some British boxer and when he was asked which boxing films he enjoyed, he said he felt Raging Bull was the best and most authentic, and he didn't mention Rocky at all.

No, but Rocky couldn't either. The films are dumb slop for Americans.
Why is boxing kino but muay Thai/kickboxing isn't
Even fights that go the distance don't last nearly as long because there aren't as many rounds. I can't think of a boxing movie that doesn't at least use 10 round matches. It's a really easy way to draw out drama.
Diggstown. Ten fights in one day.
It is tho. The only reason Tony Jaa isn't really huge in the US is that he cannot speak English very well. The whole Ong Bak series is kino

Thats bjj
Strong legs are the most important part of boxing
Kicking is an inheritely feminine trait
the boxing of kickboxing is really shit compared to boxing
It's not though
All the action takes place above the belt, so it makes it easier to frame the action for close ups and getting facial expressions while the fight's going on, making it more emotional.
Interesting take
You also get corner moments between rounds to give the fighters more character, and they have to be slumped over and bloodied, so it drives home their die hard conviction, makes it really good for pacing a fight scene.
