Saw this today, it was alright aside from Keke's character who was annoying. A black guy sat next to me in the theater and he wasnt loud, I heard him doing the black person thing under his breath. "Shoot the fricker, Oh lawd run, this fricker dead now". I feel it enhanced the experience.

It held onto the people a few hours, and given how silent it is they were def alive. It seems like it eats cattle or a couple people semi-regularly, but probably not the mass of 40 people. Once it squeezed it was probably just overflowing.
I think it kept stuff alive to try to scare prey out into the open and once it realized it wasn't working it finished them off

It's the only notable thing about the film. The plot is basically just Jaws, the camera work is good but nothing spectacular. That scene is the only thing anyone is going to remember in a year

Really the whole Jupe arc outshone OJ. I think a structural flaw in the plot was OJ and Jupe needed to be more directly at odds. OJ was selling them horses and was finding out about the UFO. OJ, someone already upset with how horses were treated likely realized Jupe is feeding his father's horses to a UFO monster. That should've caused a stronger reaction from OJ. In essence I feel like Jupe was an antagonist axed half way through the film. Jupe really should've been eaten towards the end of the movie instead.
