Didn't they get good writers for Dungeons and dragons? I mean ignoring the first 20 or so minutes which filtered millions including me, at some point it finally gets good. Magic doesn't seem that different, it's the other big geek icon, they should be able to bring someone decent.
> Magic doesn't seem that different
it's very different. why do people make this comparison? because it's in the same fantasy land nonsense? they're two completely different games with vastly different stories. in fact, magic never really had a story.
> brothers war
2022 invention that was incredibly bad > ice age
was an expansion for the game, not much real "story" to be had there either. > weatherlight
was a fucking disaster.
oh well. you tried.

U wot? The novelisation is probably older than you are, zoomer.
You have to pick one of them tho, and some arcs are way too long (Weatherlight saga) and the ones that aren't are sort of side-stories
Brother's War makes sense for a film adaptation.
Honestly Brother's War through to the end of the Weatherlight Saga would probably work best as a GoT style TV show since there was so much happening.

Wait, I remember reading comics from that like more than a decade ago. Also pretty sure there were books prior to that

the card sets that those comics and books were based on came out in the mid nineties, guy doesn't know what he's talking about
> good writers > in hollywood > in current year of our lord
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew. you have better chances of unicorns and rainbows exploding out of your asshole.
I still want a live action Yugioh. It's so goddamn fucking easy to make an epic plot with people playing card duels and summoning CGI monsters, the series has multiple plots that would work in a real movie.
But I'll take a Magic film, maybe that pushes Konami to do something
This. Urza's story is the best MTG universe has to offer. For me it died with Mirrodin, "what if MTG but everything is le artifact" thing, then Kamigawa's weeb shit. If they ever adapt it as a movie it will be 100% about the brave, diverse BIPOC non-binary bisexual nu-walkes.
Yeah, it was OP as fuck, which it is remembered for, with modular and affinity, but imo it has the worst art and is creatively lazy with its lets just have races from multiverse but have metal randomly grow on them. I think odyssey cycle had the second best story up until morph mechanic >t. in mtg since urzas saga release till ravnica
You mean as a meta movie (like Yugioh about dudes playing cards with some flashy stuff) or a movie about the lore?
Because Mtg has a very big lore. Tons of planes that each count as their own universe, tons of characters, etc. That's insane, as a movie would be impossible unless you focus on some smaller thing and on a single plane.
Probably the weatherlight adventures, or the war of the brothers?
no, unless it was a mockumentary on the 90s tournament scenes where everyone was cheating and no one knew their alpha/beta black lotus' would be worth 6 figures in 20 years
TLDR: Karn had some Phyrexian oil in him, which poisoned Mirrodinm which he ruled over. Mirrodin becomes New Phyrexia, it wipes out natives, then goes to conquer every other plane. It is the new big bad with a usual retarded power creep from WotC - worse than Eldrazi and Bolas combined.
I guess they could have Jace, Liliana, Chandra, etc all in conflict and then uniting against Nicol Bolas or something. Given how much of a mess the Warcraft movie was with only two factions, I can't imagine WotC pulling off a coherent and engaging movie plot.
>It actually has way deeper lore
It's a fucking card game.
You people falling for "deep" lore for the most surface level forms of media are fucking retarded.
A movie doesnt stand alone just because of lore and world building. What story would the movie tell?
If you're not focusing on one story, then maybe a series could work. Notice how I say "could", because nowadays with current holywood it simply wouldnt.
Only if it's about a nerd wasting his and his parents' life because of his addiction to these cards. Image a story about a somewhat wealthy family going bankrupt and destroyed because the kid ended up a NEET waste of oxygen who spends money on cards.
and there could be scenes where he imagines himself in the fantasy world. This will trick the nerds

>Mother: Why can't you be normal like other kids? >MC: You don't understand, mom. I have to make this ultimate deck, I have to win this tournament. Not for me but for my brother who died tragically >Mother: What does this have to do with him? >MC: EVERYTHING! >Father: Honey, I'm back. Hey, the bank called me today saying that our accounts are empty. This must be a mistake, right? Do you know anything about it?
Most of the old cards are worth jack all because they're weak compared to the new stuff. Did you check the price they have actually sold for, or did you only look at the price people are asking for them?
I had several Beta and Revised edition rare and uncommons. I had a stronghold Mox Diamond. I remember the binder i sold my friend had 3 revised dual lands in it and i owned 4. The 4th one was a badlands dual land that i tossed in the trash because i thought the game was lame.
The new cards are dumb and i quit playing once 7th edition came out.
>than Tolkien
Lmaoooo
No.
Every mtg plane is heavily inspired by some other pre-existing fiction genre, and all the character relationships and plotlines are extremely dumbed down and the same on every plane, except for Urza's story
>There’s always stories of people dying on their way up Everest. There’s never stories of them dying coming down. You ever notice that? I bet they see something up there, and it puts the fire in them. You saw it. And you feel it too.
it actually has nowhere near as much world building and depth as D&D, which both D&D and MTG lack the soul and consistency of tolkein, and GoT is nonsense for women that will be forgotten in a decade
MTG was great when it was random shit with no overall arch. Then they went full retard with the story line and the planewalkers and all that garbage. Now they've entered their black transsexual wheelchair bound midget with blonde female lover phase. I sold my entire collection after seeing the absolute dysgenic puddle monsters that were infested the local friday night tournament at a new game shop that opened up.
A TV series with Gideon as the main character was announced a long time ago, but it's been years since we got any updates and we don't even know if it's still in production.
I remember when this shit first came out me and my friends were on it hard. We had a bunch of alpha and beta cards. I personally had a timewalk and a few dual lands and my friend had a mox emerald. We played with them till they basically fell apart. I remember we spilled soda and ruined what would now be like 15,000$ worth of cards lol. But it was worth it. Those times were so good. Now everything is bad.
Under current-day WotC? Fuck no.
90s era Stranger Things where the new kids play MTG instead of D&D would be better.
Sure. Bring on good writers. AKA never.
>Sure. Bring on good writers. AKA never.
This
And this
Most things can work if you bring on a competent staff.
And even sure bets that write them selves can fail if the company behind it is retarded.

Yugioh uber alles.
Which part of the lore are you talking about? The Brothers War? The Ice Age saga? The Weatherlight story?
please don't tell me you're talking about this new schlocky capeshit garbage with hip teen planeswalkers...
>If they ever adapt it as a movie it will be 100% about the brave, diverse BIPOC non-binary bisexual nu-walkers.
this is correct
magic hasn't been good in 20 years, with only a few highlights here and there.
Mirrodin was my jam. Invincible artifact deck with my Myr bros
Yeah, it was OP as fuck, which it is remembered for, with modular and affinity, but imo it has the worst art and is creatively lazy with its lets just have races from multiverse but have metal randomly grow on them. I think odyssey cycle had the second best story up until morph mechanic

Absolutely. Would it work as a film? No, because Wizards of the Coast.
>It actually has way deeper lore and world building than D&D, Tolkien and GoT combined.
WTF? No it does not. Not even close.

Generic Fantasy shit that indiscernible from any other generic Fantasy .
Generic fantasy is not multi-planar.
I like magic or I did before they started making literal gay cards but that multi universe shit is never cool, ever. It’s always gay.
Multiverses are all the rage now bro.
Marvel, ricky and morty, DC comics, everyone is doing multiverses.
Brandon Sanderson oc work is better anyways. They should do that instead
no, unless it was a mockumentary on the 90s tournament scenes where everyone was cheating and no one knew their alpha/beta black lotus' would be worth 6 figures in 20 years
World building doesn’t necessarily equal a good story
>woke MtG movie featuring Chandra Nalaar
I sleep
what ended up happening with phyrexia anyways
It's a mystery.
The Plane was slowly dying anyway, so I guess if they leave it alone post death of Yawgmoth the problem will resolve itself.

I played MTG in the 90s. One night while drunk i looked up the prices of some of the rare cards i remembered owning.
I got depressed and quit around $2500. Theyre worth far more than the 25,000 baseball card collection i have from around the same time.
Most of the old cards are worth jack all because they're weak compared to the new stuff. Did you check the price they have actually sold for, or did you only look at the price people are asking for them?
