Na, he choose to fight to the death because of some banter
If you fight to the death
You can fucking die
>his dead was pointless
like every other death in medieval times, thats the point
pretty sure that guy was some prick politicians right arm muscle, and killing him was a message to that prick politican to keep his shit in check or he'll be the next one on the chopping block. the fire worm was coming and they didn't have time for assholes not working together.
last time I watched was March of this year... It was the Prince's right hand man. The Prince wanted the throne and the King was already in bad shape so he had him run interference against the warriors as to not lose the confidence of the villagers.
its been ages, i need to rewatch. i knew there was some political reason why they had to kill that guy. cheers. its such a good movie. literally the very first DVD i ever bought way back when VHS was being phased out.
>Buliwyf

The Norse used kennings. They rarely named something outright, but would use compounded figurative language to allude to a meaning

Having wolf in your name was actually slightly cooler, because they believed that if you said the names of predators you'd call to them and make them appear if you're unlucky. Instead of saying Wulf/Ulv they'd use euphemisms like calling it 'grey paw' or 'thief'. In Scandinavia wolves are still called Varg, which meant thief, because everyone was afraid of using the original name for so long that the word stopped being used for anything except the animal. Bear is one of those euphemisms, it just means 'the brown one' and we don't actually know what the original name for them was, because they were so fucking scared of bears that they simply wouldn't use its name enough for it to be passed down to us. So a guy calling himself wolf would be cooler than the guy calling himself bear, because the wolf guy is tempting fate every time he says his own name while you're just calling yourself a brown ox.
kinda feels like they either ran out of ideas or budget though i do like that the more the warriors learn about their enemy and demystify them the easier they are to battle and by the end they slaughter them
>Lo, there do I see my father. Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers. Lo, there do I see the line of my people, Back to the beginning Lo, they do call to me. They bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla
it should of been a series of films everything about it was great. its more realistic then anything Hollywood has done in a decade now too I don't even think there was any cgi other then Bagdad and the sailing part.
When I saw it as a teenager, i loved it. Then Lord of the Rings/Gladiator/Kingdom of Heaven, went overboard with massive battles, effects and armor etc.
Then after revisiting the 13th warrior in 2015, I realized that its possibly the best "viking" film ever made.
was the implication here that he was possibly converting to Islam or at least open to the idea of embracing a new cool god after Ibin learned their language over night?
He just wanted to make sure someone would write down his legacy instead of it just being bard tales or some shit. He was impressed that the arab could duolingo himself into talking norse so he wanted to gain his respect by showing respect. At least that's how I interpreted it.
>alll these replies and I STILL don't fucking KNOW
It's going to carry on being underrated OP you goddamn retard if I can't fucking watch it without a fucking NAME
13th warrior, fren. pretty sure its been mentioned in the thread. i really cant stress enough just how good the movie is. from start to stop it's perfect
Apparently the original soundtrack, before Michael Crichton stepped in as director and changed a whole bunch of shit like adding in more dialogue because he's a wordcel, started off with Ibn having an Arabic/Muslim musical theme, with the two different types of music mixing as the characters get to know each other. Crichton and the studio was apparently more scared than McTiernan about playing up the Muslim angle, fearing audience not liking it, and so after McTiernan was kicked off the project they scrapped it for the current soundtrack.
I can't watch the movie without wondering what the original is like. Or whether it might be brought out of the vault one day.
I can't really judge these things without hearing them accompanied with the scene, with the notes hitting at the intended spots of a scene etc. But then I basically never listen to scores on their own.
He played a Norwegian pirate or something like that, right? It's weird how he's made a career out of playing Scandinavians when he's a fucking Czechoslavian.
something to that effect. he's one of only a couple crewmembers still alive and occasionally speaks in a different language. Everyone on the ship ages quickly because of "heavy salt".
Why has no one been able to do any good medieval/dark ages spooky movies. I feel like there is so much room for evil magical things and creatures.
The only ones I can think of is the one with Sean Bean and one with Nic Cage.
Pretty sure one was Black Death and cant remember the other
so they were Cro-Magnons or something I always assumed. wonder why there have never been films about humans fighting other hominids that we once shared the planet with.
I was always slightly confused exactly where they were supposed to be. Iceland? I know the Nords made it to North America so I dont think these would be Native Americans

He was muscle for the prince who opposed the warriors because he feared Buliwyf would threaten his throne.
The Warriors felt they needed to give him something to think about.
>now he has to think about what he can't see
kino

It's incredible that this movie is measly one and half hour.
>his dead was pointless
They explain the point immediately after the fight, they prevented much worse damage.
You don't get to judge white men.
It's nice. The problem is the final battle is like two minutes.
kinda feels like they either ran out of ideas or budget though i do like that the more the warriors learn about their enemy and demystify them the easier they are to battle and by the end they slaughter them
when it comes to budget most of it probably went to the battle at night and building those fortifications
The sets and costumes looked pretty good.
Still pretty low budget compared to modern streaming-service shows and look how badly those spend the money.
just a shame it did not do well in theaters they should of kept the original title ''eaters of the dead''
>Bet on him if you like.
never heard of maxresdefault film
>be on the board for movies

how the fuck did you know
another hidden gem microbrew to add to my collection

The horse jumping over the other horse is also CGI.

It is the best viking film easily
dies off screen
>its been a good day
was the implication here that he was possibly converting to Islam or at least open to the idea of embracing a new cool god after Ibin learned their language over night?
thats always what I interpreted from this.
horrid bait

That fucking soundtrack, goddamn.

The rejected score is on youtube, by the way. It's really good, although I slightly prefer Goldsmith's soundtrack for the sake of the movie.
I can't really judge these things without hearing them accompanied with the scene, with the notes hitting at the intended spots of a scene etc. But then I basically never listen to scores on their own.
this is fucking awesome
is there a fan project floating around out there on the net like the waterworld: ulysses cut?
this is pretty good I can see it possibly being something early on in the film maybe after or in Bagdad. or maybe an end credit song.
>tfw you'll never live long enough to see the McTiernan Cut
saw him in an episode of X-Files
He played a Norwegian pirate or something like that, right? It's weird how he's made a career out of playing Scandinavians when he's a fucking Czechoslavian.

Agreed, first time watching it was so cool because you are lead to believe it really could be some kind of monster or spoopy shit.
