    >language virus
Is that even a real thing

The concept is a thing, whether you accept it is another.
It's basically a meme that is resilient and always a detriment to the mind.
It also is just a low grade reference to Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash.

This site is living proof that language virus is a reality. It is epistemologically the same as the 'meme,' that is, it is a behavior, or style that spreads by means of imitation from person to person within a culture.
Within this culture for example, baneposting is a language virus, because every fricking time someone randomly says 'Big Guy huehue,' someone else across the aisle responds with '4U.'
Same with the dialectical nature of Based and Cringe, or Chad or Virgin etc. All these examples are indicative of a viral mechanism of memetic transmission, and they fundamentally affect how we think and respond to social cues.
Religion is the same mechanism of viral transmission. Imagine all the people who memorize religious texts and use them in conversation.

This suggests that a language virus is entirely different to an organised system like religion. A phrase that sticks in your brain versus a whole lore that intentionally tries to control the way in which people live. There is nothing coincidental or accidental about it.

Religion is a larger system of organization and control which employs a variety of linguistic "viruses" in order to spread its reach as well as to consolidate and reinforce its control and influence.

Yeah, having recently rewatched it, Rust comes across like an edgy teen mad about being taken to church on Sunday. His opinions and thoughts and insanely boilerplate and milquetoast, while also being super easily addressed.
I appreciate that Marty, instead of countering with theology, just calls him out on his bullshit and hypocrisy

true, but marty himself larps as an edgy teenager when talking to his father in law, he rolls his eyes the whole talk then finally snaps when the guy mentions clinton in a negative context

    He's not wrong

It's also worth noting that he sees the light in the end. He doesn't become religious, but he comes to the understanding that there's more to existence than entropy and suffering.

What are you Black folk so afraid of, if the mere idea of atheist ideation is enough to make you sperg out to such an extent?
You have your public figures, people like Augustine, Aquinas, Kierkegaard who advocated for life via theology, and yet, despite the works of these absolute titans, you cannot even engage in dialogue with an atheist.
Your understanding of faith is genuinely weak if mere dialogue makes you lose posture like this.

It’s typically from a place of ignorance about theology masked as through understanding. So it generally evokes a visceral anger in most people who are knowledgeable about the particularities of Christianity.

If that post came across as raging, you gotta get checked out. Im as cool as a cucumber and engage happily with atheists whenever they like. Since Rustin Cohl is not a real person, i cant engage with him.

you are already engaging with Rust's philosophy on the grounds that his views are not only wrong, but easily discarded as well. Whether or not Rust is a real person or not is out of the equation. You chose to engage with him when you picked out an aspect of his argument to focus on, and deliver your own antithesis.

Same principle applies if you are

i hate that people really do make careers irl out of talking such bullshit when they ought to be using a rivet gun ideally on their skull

only this time it is even weaker because it throws the argument out the window and advocates for violence in lieu of actual discussion.

Bottom line is you willingly chose to enter the argument, and your position as the object as 'real' or otherwise is irrelevant.

You talk like a gay, and your shits all moronic.
There is nothing rust says about religion that hasn't been addressed by thousands of theologians for a thousand years.

How is it bullshit? What he said is perfectly reasonable. Religion programs you to have faith whenever logic or evidence fails you. "Don't question things too much - just have faith."

I believe Christ spoke the truth, but it's not because of blind faith. It's because of countless hours of contemplation and empirical evidence that I believe supports Christ's philosophy.

most people are barely literate they simply don't have the mental faculties to even understand what the trinity is much less anything else calling anything a "language virus" is painful (particularly in a post selfish gene world)
none of that is what makes me mad though
what makes me mad is that someone gets to sit at home playing with their dick for $60k a year while they talk about ideas which are decades out of date and think they're somehow relevant or speaking truth to power

I don't get it, are you a materialist or a theologian? The fact that you used Dawkins as a source make me believe you might be the former.
Also, who is this someone who earns 60k a year while talking about theology and its constituents?
Genuinely asking because I don't understand your argument - are you advocating for the death of all philosophy, or just an aspect of it?

          >most people are barely literate they simply don't have the mental faculties to even understand what the trinity is
I disagree. I think anyone of average intelligence can understand the Trinity with enough reading and contemplation. It's actually deceptively simple.

What most people get wrong, imo, is that the Trinity doesn't just represent God but rather all that *truly* exists.

          >calling anything a "language virus" is painful
He's a nihilistic character that represents a worldview that changes in the end. I don't have a problem with the line.
